Fair is Fair

One of my readers thought I was unfair to show the photos of the Mall after the Inauguration and the Tea Party and draw conclusions from them. Maybe she's right.

Do you think it's fair to compare trash photos from a liberal and conservative event and use them to draw conclusions about liberals and conservatives? I admit that I do know some liberals who would likely be out with trash bags picking up after everybody. That's a good sign. It means that they believe in good citizenship and stewardhip of the earth. Those are Christian principles. It's also the camper's and hiker's rule: leave a place cleaner than you found it and if you treck it in, treck it out.

There was actually a litter free inauguration group that was urging people not to trash the Mall and they appear to be liberal. Obviously their admonitions had no impact because Inauguration 2009 resulted in between 100 and 130 tons of trash, more than ever at any event in the past. So who was listening to the President's message of personal responsibility? Not many.

On the other hand maybe the problem is that people didn't believe he meant. If the government is going to take care of you like mommy did, then Nanny Sammy will pick up after you as well.

A few more photos from the Inauguration:

This one a few blocks west of the National Gallery of Art which is located at 4th and Constitution near the Capitol and visible in the background

This site has a video taken near the Natural History Museum at 9th St. Obama's Hordes Trash Inauguration Site

To be fair, the tea party folks left some trash behind as well.

  1. To be fair, it looks like the Tea Party people left some trash being....IN THE TRASH CAN.

Liberals just left it all over the ground, and expected others to clean up after them.

  2. I think it is certainly fair to observe the difference and letting it rest. Of course there is a connection to worldview, because persons only ever act based on what they believe. If you believe someone else should clean up the mortgage crisis, why not the litter?

But pictures speak louder than words. The picture, the caption - let viewers draw powerful conclusions. In my experience, explanations and rants only wreck a good photo.

    Nice pictures, Mary Ann.
