On Forced Unionization and the NEA

I've been having a discussion with the wife of a teacher in the comments section of one of my blog posts about compulsory unionization. She believes that teachers should be forced to pay union dues because they receive the benefits of collective bargaining. But I'll let her speak for herself:
Actually yes I agree with still taking some level of Union dues out (in the Union that I used to belong to you could have Full-Share Union dues taken out and get voting rights or Fair-Share (50% of the Full-Share) dues taken out and give up voting rights). My reason for agreeing with still taking at least some level of dues out is because they still get the benefits provided by the contract? It would be unethical to have a contract for a group of teachers in the Union and a second for teachers not in the Union. Again, JMHO
I have to vigorously disagree with forcing people to join unions, especially the teachers' unions which lobby for things I cannot in good conscience support. Belonging to the NEA would force me to cooperate with things that are so evil, I would rather live on oatmeal.

I'll give just one current example. Here's what Diane Schneider, representing the NEA, recently said at the U.N.
“Oral sex, masturbation, and orgasms need to be taught in education,” Diane Schneider told the audience at a panel on combating homophobia and transphobia.  Schneider, representing the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers union in the US, advocated for more “inclusive” sex education in US schools, with curricula based on liberal hetero and homosexual expression.  She claimed that the idea of sex education remains an oxymoron if it is abstinence-based, or if students are still able to opt-out.
Comprehensive sex education is “the only way to combat heterosexism and gender conformity,” Schneider proclaimed, “and we must make these issues a part of every middle and high-school student’s agenda.”  “Gender identity expression and sexual orientation are a spectrum,” she explained, and said that those opposed to homosexuality “are stuck in a binary box that religion and family create.” Read more here.
Wow! This makes it absolutely clear that "sex education" is all about brainwashing the kids. No choice, no opt-out. Not only must we have forced union participation but we must force students (and make their parents go along) to be indoctrinated in the NEA's version of morality which is anything goes sex and everything that goes with it including abortion. And who are the enemies in the NEA's world view? "Religion and family."

And I'm supposed to pay union dues to support this diabolical agenda? Hell no!

There is an ethical option for teachers fed up with the NEA, and I hope many will take a look at it. The American Association of Educators is a non-union professional group for teachers that provides things like liability insurance without forcing members to support immoral lobbying. Here's a little about them from a LifeSiteNews story:
Gary Beckner, AAE's Executive Director, said many teachers are unaware of the legal options available to keep their dues from supporting the NEA's liberal politics.

"The Supreme Court has said that even though teachers may be a part of a collectively bargained contract in a district, and have to pay them dues for that representation ... that's all they have to pay for legally," Beckner told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) this week. "They do not have to pay for any part of the dues that union collects that goes to anything other than representation."  See more here....
The AAE says their primary concern is the children and the teachers, unlike the NEA who make no bones about the fact they are a powerful lobby first. In 2009, the AAE picked up numerous members fleeing the union after the NEA convention where Bob Chanin, their top lawyer for 41 years, attacked those who disagree with NEA policies saying, "Why are these conservative and right-wing bastards picking on NEA and its affiliates?  I will tell you why: it is the price we pay for success.  NEA and its affiliates have been singled out because they are the most effective unions in the U.S." He went on to say the NEA is effective "not because of our creative ideas, it is not because of the merit of our positions, it is not because we care about children, and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power." And they use that power to advance an agenda so evil those enabling it are in line for the proverbial millstone.

Christian teachers need to reconsider their membership in the NEA. The teachers' union is the best argument out there for right-to-work laws.

  1. The public system is "Indoctrination Central" -- the problem with any single provider system is that you get indoctrination not education.

The key to an education is to teach people to teach themselves not tell them what to think but teach them the tools to think well.

Instead of that what we are getting is brainwashed children who recite politically correct "mantras" and think an opinion is a critical analysis. I'm sorry, the education system is a disaster.

  2. Only a person "with issues" would foist that kind of education on children and their families and their culture. Wonder what she's been up to??

  3. Anon @ 8:48 you 1000% correct!

    (off topic a tad here)

As Cardinal Boyle said after sacking Charles Curran and some of his fellow cronies from Catholic University of America when they dissented from Pope Paul VI's encyclical "Humanae Vitae" back in 1968:

"If they are going to think that way, they are going to act that way."

Meaning to go down the road of debauchery *because of* the acceptance of the contraceptive mentality in this country.

(incidentally, the Pope had Cdl Boyle reinstate the dissenters after a couple of years - most theorists claim it was because the pope feared a formal schism in the Church at the time - sadly, look at what this has done to most of our "Catholic" schools)

  4. No teaching about oral sex, masturbation, and orgasms does not make them disappear, as is evident by the number of kids in our local Catholic middle school recently diagnosed with a STD. One member of the "Challenge Club" (who all take a pledge to avoid pre-marital sex) said to her mother, "I didn't think giving a blow job was sex, because they said that sex was for procreation."

I'm all for comprehensive sex education in the schools, including full-on graphic pictures of STDs and what they do to your body. If it is the new pro-life tactic, why not make it the pro-abstinence tactic, too?

  5. Actually, Anonymous, graphic sex ed teaching doesn't reduce kids' sex activity, but increases it. Have you ever looked at the programs? I was fighting sex ed in Fairfax County years ago when they were telling middle school kids the way to avoid STDs was not to change partners too frequently. The materials portrayed parents as the problem and the friendly counselor at Planned Parenthood as the real friend.

If sex ed worked (after how many years???) why do we have more kids than ever having sex? Duh! It's because it isn't about cutting back on sex. The message is always -- use birth control and have an abortion as backup. They're selling their services. The tobacco companies aren't the only ones who want customers addicted to their product.

The programs are vile. Some of the visuals are pornographic. Hmm...Do folks use pornography to subdue the desire for sex or to titillate it?

  6. You obviously have no real idea about what is going on in public schools. Your whole "indoctrination" idea is bogus. Teachers are so focused on teaching towards a standardized test that there is no room for indoctrination. Now you are just spreading ignorance. Thanks.

  7. Tell that to David Parker who was arrested for objecting to the forced indoctrination of his kindergarten child. http://www.massresistance.org/docs/parker/

Some states aren't as bad as others, but my son and his wife pulled their kids out of public school last year when the school held the day of silence ("gay" rights) without informing them and giving them a chance to withdraw their children for the day.

Sounds to me like you're the one who doesn't know what's going on in the public schools.

    BTW You're welcome.

  8. Well, I pulled my kids out of the Catholic school system and put them into the public school system 4 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Our kids have blossomed there. Premarital sex has been going on since the beginning of time. Or at least since my grandma had my aunt 4 months after her wedding date. I'd much rather my kids be exposed to a good sex education program that tells them about sexuality (hetero and homo) and all the risks that go along with early sexualization than just say, "Your body is a temple" and hope for the best. I give nothing but kudos to those engaged in educating our youth - ALL our youth, not just the neo-conservative Catholic ones.

  9. Everything David Parker is complaining about regarding gays and marriage is the same thing that was said to my aunt and uncle in 1974 when their catholic parish refused to marry them because she is white and he is black. They were told to 'think of their children, who would be raised in a abnormal household' and that 'it wasn't God's plan for the races to mix.' Gays are just a new group for the bullies to attack.

  10. Excuse me, but perhaps you hadn't noticed that skin color is an inherent characteristic; sexual behavior is not. It is insulting to compare racial discrimination against blacks with "discriminating", and I mean that in the positive sense, between normal sexual behavior and depravity. Is it really that complicated to tell the difference?

The pro-gay "experts" are already moving on to the next target - making pedophilia normal, just one more "sexual orientation" equivalent to homosexuality and heterosexuality. (Sex before 8 or else it's too late as NAMBLA says.) What's next? Bestiality? Pretty soon we'll have the entire alphabet in the lexicon: LGBTPA. (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Pedaphile, Animal-loving, etc.)

As for your aunt and uncle, that was a shame, but was not the teaching of the Church. I know interracial couples married in the Church years before 1974.

  11. Anonymous, like most Anonymous's is just a troll. Apparently he is also one who has never heard of sin.

All inherently disordered behavior when consciously done with the assent of the will is sinful. Informing young minds of disordered behavior is little short of encouraging it directly. It sparks curiosity which leads to experimentation. It also destroys innocence. Anonymous is living in a dream world. I am around young college 18-22 year olds all the time and it's sure a very different world than when I was in college. It's a far less virtuous world and that's sad.

Homosexuality is a developmental disorder that has been sanctioned by the psychiatric crowd due to their own disordered idea of the meaning of "natural." This is part and parcel of the decline in moral discourse and the enshrinement of personal license in our society. Anything goes because I want to do it and truth is anything that I prefer it to be. That's simply a corruption of thought.
