Cardinal Timothy Dolan has done an outstanding job leading the Catholic resistance to the HHS mandate. Archbishop of the Archdiocese of New York, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), an advisor to Benedict XVI, he has a well-deserved reputation as a spiritual leader. However, during the past few weeks much has been written concerning the controversy created by Cardinal Dolan’s invitation to President Obama to attend the annual Alfred E. Smith dinner. Much of what the cardinal and other bishops have written has been an attempt to justify that invitation. Much of that written by Catholic organizations and national writers has been extremely critical, depicting Cardinal Dolan as naïve or stupid or much worse.

During his administration, President Obama has done everything in his power to undermine the teachings of the Catholic Church. He is implementing programs and policies that may soon require the Church to repudiate its basic beliefs or close down all of its charitable and educational organizations. His support of the intrinsic evils of abortion and same-sex “marriage” is without precedent in any other administration.

Gosh...just suppose they pick up their pitchforks and revolt against their rich white owners? 

One of the things I love about West is that he won't play into the racial discussion. Let's face it. Liberals are pouring money into the races to defeat black conservatives like Allen West and Mia Love, but West won't play the race card by bringing it up. He sticks to the issues. GO WEST!

Conscience seeks the truth. For a Catholic to support instrinsic evils is sinful. To vote for Obama based on prudential matters (e.g., how best to solve the problem of poverty) is irresponsible. It also seems stupid to me in view of the fact that all of Obama's policies to date have increased poverty. Think about it. More people are unemployed, underemployed, on food stamps, in foreclosure, in serious debt, etc. So exactly why are you thinking of voting for Obama?

Catholics who vote for Obama are choosing the most radically pro-abortion candidate in history. He not only approves of abortion in all circumstances; he favors the murder by neglect of newborns who survive abortion. A vote for Obama is a vote for abortion, an intrinsic evil. Anybody with half a brain knows exactly how radical Obama's position is. He has gone out of his way to support and reward Planned Parenthood, the leader of the abortion industry.

Obama appears to have no fear of God. Will Catholics follow him as their replacement Messiah?

I am not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against, but I am saying that you need to think and pray very carefully about your vote, because a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy.

A Great Example of Media Bias...or Media Stupidity

A priest in Belleville, IL, Fr. William Rowe, who's been fighting with his bishop for over a year was suspended by Bishop Edward Braxton in July for refusing to follow the liturgical norms. Among his abuses was ad libbing the Eucharistic prayer, a practice which can render the Mass invalid. The Vatican upheld Bishop Braxton's suspension saying the priest could apply for faculties in another diocese, but must admit he was wrong and agree to follow the liturgical requirements mandated for all priests, including bishops and cardinals.

Now let's see how the local media portrayed this.

Huh! How did they get that? The Vatican upheld the priest's suspension saying that he could apply for faculties in another diocese,  “when you shall have acknowledged your error and formally promise to dispose yourself to adhere to the rights and rubrics of the sacred liturgy set down by the lawful ecclesiastical authorities.” 

Really! Does that sound like the Vatican "reversed" the priest's suspension? Rowe may not celebrate Mass in Belleview and has said in the past that he has no intention of changing his ways so he won't be able to say Mass anywhere else either. On Tuesday, he reaffirmed his obstinacy and the Bishop is applying to have him removed permanently. 

High time these "protest-ant" priests are removed. The Pope and Magisterium are the ones who protect the authentic Catholic faith. Individual priests have no authority...none...nada... to monkey with the liturgy. They may not change the words of Consecration which invalidates the entire Mass and renders Communion, not the Body and Blood of Christ, but only bread and wine. Priests may not use chips and beer instead of bread and wine as the matter for Communion. They may not even substitute gluten free hosts. They may not skip parts in the Mass they don't happen to like. They may not substitute writings from Emerson or Darwin or Robert Frost for the scripture readings. 

Fr. Rowe seems proud of the fact that he's been thumbing his nose at the Church for years while he did his own thing. It's high time someone straightened him out -- both for his own soul's sake and the sake of the flock. They may not have had a valid Mass in his parish for years. Frankly, I don't understand the arrogance of a priest who considers the Mass his own stage and personal script.

Pew Survey is Bad News for Catholics

A recent Pew Survey shows Catholics favoring Obama by 15% in the upcoming election. Jeff Mirus at Catholic Culture points out the most shocking result of the poll:

The most damning result of the poll is that Catholics who attend Mass at least weekly favor Mitt Romney by only nine percent (51 to 42). This compares with nearly a 30 point gap the other way for those who attend Mass very rarely or not at all. Why isn’t there a comparable gap against Obama by regularly practicing Catholics? This represents a colossal Catholic failure.

Absolutely! A colossal failure in teaching Catholics the faith. The only reason people sitting in the pew week after week listening to scripture readings and hearing homilies can hold this position is that they have not been taught the faith. Pabulum from the pulpit cannot form correct consciences. Most Catholics believe their feelings and opinions are "conscience" and they can legitimately follow them without sin. Far from the truth!

Conscience is an act of the intellect. It is conscience that should inform and direct feelings and opinions instead of the other way around. Conscience is the "voice of truth" that must be properly formed so it conforms to the natural law and the doctrines of the Church. A sound conscience will feel guilty when guilt is appropriate for evil acts and feel morally upright when decisions are morally sound. A person who feels no guilt over committing an atrocity is a sociopath whose conscience is dead.

There is an excellent booklet put out by Leaflet Missal Company that should be read by every Catholic before the election. It's called A Brief Catechism for Catholic Voters by Fr. Stephen Torraco. I recommend it and urge you to order and read it and share it with your Catholic and Christian friends. Friends don't let friends make decisions that send them headlong down the road to hell without trying to put the brakes on. Pray the rosary for Obama Catholics (an oxymoron) and give them the booklet. That's a recipe for soul-saving.

Bishop Loverde Ignites Controversy Over Faith Requirement

I've been delinquent in not recognizing Bishop Loverde's action to require catechists to sign an oath of fidelity. It occurred several months ago. I was waiting to see if the same requirement would be levied on the adult teaching groups such as the Continuing Christian Development Institute which is notorious for featuring well-known dissenters as teachers. Writing a letter to ask Bishop Loverde about that is on my to-do list. Please pray for him. One of the reasons the adults teaching the kids are off-base is because their instruction is. Which comes first after all...the chicken or the egg? Scrambled chicken brains = scrambled eggs.

Obama Campaign Defaces the Flag

A few days ago the image of the flag below appeared on the Obama website. It resulted in a firestorm of criticism. All I can say is what arrogance! Here's a man who thinks he is America. How many of us would would replace the stars on the flag with our personal logo? How dare Obama equate the symbol of our freedom with his cult of personality! Remember Benjamin Franklin who, at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, looked at the President's chair depicting a sun. He commented on the difficulty of telling whether an artist's depiction was a rising or setting sun. After the Convention completed its work, Franklin said he was confident it was a rising sun. After four years of Obama, I'm convinced his logo is a setting sun. If he wins re-election it will signify the sun setting on our Constitutional Republic. God help us!

Incidentally, the "Obama flag" has been removed from the Obama store website. One of the reasons is no doubt the many people who have pointed out the resemblance between it and the blood stains on the Benghazi wall. See the images below. Creepy, eh?

Who's the Greatest?

Were you listening at Mass this morning? The disciples were arguing along the road about who was the greatest. They still had the idea that Jesus would be a worldly Messiah defeating the Romans and setting up His kingdom on earth. (Even after Jesus told them He had to suffer and die! They were slow learners.) The apostles were Jesus' inner circle. They saw themselves as his ministers and cabinet heads (sitting on his right and left). So they no doubt were arguing about who was going to be the chief of staff or the prime minister.

Of course Jesus knew exactly what the apostles were talking about. Don't you think He asked them what they were discussing on the road to make them feel embarrassed? They clearly were, since none of them would answer His question. And what did He do? Brought a little child and put him in their midst. "Those who wish to become great among you must become like this little child," He said.

What is a child? Little and not much in the world's eyes. Think of the little ones in our own culture. The littlest are nothing but doll objects -- to be trashed if unwanted and sought at all costs, even through immoral means, if wanted. Sad.

But, Jesus said, it can't be that way among you. The greatest must be servant to the rest. So...a great question for tonight's examination of conscience? How have I served others today? Do I really want to serve? Or do I long to be served? Do I want to be little in the world's eyes? Or do I want to receive honors?

Fr. John Hardon often said only little, humble people get into heaven. He also said one only gains humility by suffering humiliation. Are you ready for that? Are you willing to pray for that? Gosh...am I? Have you ever prayed the Litany of Humility?

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.

Obama a World Leader? NOT!

Actually, it makes perfect sense. Obama panders to the TV junkie generation. Lots of potential voters will see him and Michelle and on The View. How many will read reports about his meeting with prime ministers and presidents. I think this is the first president we've ever had who had the depth of a Michael Jackson or a contestant on American Idol. It truly is pathetic to see it and to think that this man is the leader of the free world. What a head-shaker.

Yes, the Department of Justice is training law enforcement to PROFILE certain folks as terrorists. "Who?" you ask. Pro-lifers, of course, and liberty lovers who don't like the U.N. Also included are those who oppose genetic engineering. (Wow! That makes me a triple terrorist!)

So let me get this straight. TSA is not allow to pull Muslim men in turbins out of line at the airport because that would be profiling. Democrats Refuse Candy and Welcome Letters from Charlotte Churches

Here's a story you no doubt missed since the drive-by media didn't cover it. Christian churches were prohibited from presenting delegates with pralines and a welcome letter because their values conflict with the Democrats' ungodly platform. But Muslims who came to pray were welcomed with open arms:

According to writer, Todd Starnes, The DNC banned the churches from distributing the gift baskets to delegates because, DNC said, the congregations hold values that are contrary to the party platform. Read that carefully. 

David Benham, one of the organizers of the outreach said, “We were just trying to display Southern hospitality.” DNC officials, however, conveyed to city leaders that the Christians would not be allowed to present their gift baskets. 

Even the Charlotte Mayor’s office jumped in to tell the churches not to participate, saying that their views on women’s rights are contrary to the platform. That’s right….the same platform that booed God later.... 

The baskets did not contain a single political or pro-life message. They just wanted to give them regional candies and a welcome letter. The DNC refused to return numerous phone calls seeking comment. 

But it gets worse. When a gathering of 200 Muslims showed up to pray for the convention, the Dems welcomed them with open arms and the liberal media gave extensive national coverage

Obama just released a video trying to convince people of faith how much he values them. Yeah right...about as much as he and his rabid anti-god cronies valued the lovely gesture of hospitality from Charlotte's Christian churches. The Democrats booed God and booed the Boy Scouts who carried in the flag. Let's face it, they hate God and his laws and they hate God's followers. The HHS mandate is no accident. If Obama is reelected, persecution of Christians will increase and become more virulent. Study history. It happened in Germany and Mexico and it's happening here.  Pray for their conversion, but fight what they stand for.

Amen to Michael Hichborn and ALL. Inviting Barack Obama "sends the wrong message" and is likely to influence Catholics to vote for him. Watch for a photo of Obama and Dolan at the dinner to appear on the front page of the New York Times, Washington Post, and every other liberal rag in the country in a few weeks. Hey, Catholics, he isn't so bad. You have Dolan's permission to laugh it up with this guy for another four years. We know that's not what Dolan wants, but perception is a big part of the story in politics. Besides, in our dumbed down culture how many people just look at the pictures?

Follow the Leader, i.e., the Shepherd

A few weeks ago my husband and I were in Colonial Beach and attended Sunday Mass at St. Elizabeth's. The priest, Fr. Vincent Bork, said Mass ad orientem. And, yes, that means he had his back to the people. It also means he was facing Jesus in the tabernacle and acting as a leader of the people. That makes complete sense to me.

We are called the Church Militant. What military leader goes into battle facing his troops? He doesn't. He leads. Was Moses in the desert walking backwards as he led the people toward the promised land? Of course not. If you hire a guide to lead you through a dangerous country do you want him to walk backwards?

Our priests are leaders, shepherds, and guides. There is something powerful in the image of the flock following the leader. I experienced that powerful image at St. Elizabeth's thanks to Fr. Bork. Here's the view of another priest making the case for ad orientem.

Maybe if we treated human babies like pandas....

...people wouldn't demand the right to kill them. Think of the outrage if there was a group demanding the right to kill panda cubs...or gorilla babies...or newborn eaglets. But human babies are so much trash...unless the mothers happen to want them. And yet we are the apple of God's eye "worth more than many sparrows"...or pandas...or gorillas...or eagles...or any lower life form. Thank you Lord for providing the animals to feed and delight us. Help us to be good stewards of your creation. And please, Lord, save the baby humans!

Time Out for a Birthday...

What a week! Time out for something more cheerful than rioting Muslims who hate America.

So let's talk about imaginary murder and mayhem instead - as in classical detective stories. Because today is Columbo's birthday. Peter Falk, the New York actor from Ossining, NY who played the detective in the rumpled trenchcoat with the (often unlit) cigar clenched in his teeth would have been 85 today. As a mystery fan, I admired the low key detective who's absent-minded manner fooled so many criminals into thinking they were up against a numbskull.

So, in honor of Peter Falk, I plan to watch a Columbo episode tonight and lift a glass of something in toast to a great actor who is sorely missed by this fan. The Columbo stories were clean with no explicit sex and little, if any, on-screen violence. They were simply old fashioned fun whodunits!

I miss Peter Falk and pray he's exploring the highways of heaven in that beat up old jalopy taking his namesake along for a ride. Rest in peace, Pete.

P.S. Funny thing - Agatha Christie's birthday was yesterday. She created some of my other favorite detectives, i.e., Hercule Poirot, beautifully portrayed by another splendid actor, David Souchet, and  the consummate Miss Jane Marple played by Joan Hickson. Hickson was Agatha Christie's personal choice to play her delightful spinster from St. Mary Mead. Now there was an author who knew her characters and how they should be played. Rest in peace Dame Agatha.

And after I had our fifth and was holding her I said, "We should have at least one more." So the Bible is right about mothers forgetting the pain. I had our last three using natural methods of pain control and they were better births with quicker recovery than the first two with anesthesia and an epidural.

Stop Blaming the Movie!

Okay, I've read enough about government agencies investigating the demonized movie maker. I'm sick of Hillary Clinton apologizing for the movie. I'm sick of her yammering to the Muslim world that America had nothing to do with making the movie. "It is sickening and repulsive", etc.

Forget the movie already! Movies don't kill. And they don't make people kill. Insults against religion don't kill either. If they did Christians would be on the rampage full time.

As a Catholic I'm deeply offended that my government eagerly funds insults against my faith like Andres Serrano's "P*** Christ" showing a crucifix immersed in a jar of urine and a video with ants crawling all over a bloody crucifix. Hillary can't say the American government had nothing to do with that. And when have liberals expressed any concern over anti-Catholic films like The Last Temptation of Christ or blasphemous plays like Most Fabulous Story Ever Told portraying Mary as a lesbian and Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption which depicts Jesus as gay? Try to find a liberal criticizing an anti-Catholic art work, movie, play, photograph, music video, verbal blasphemy, etc. NEVER! They pooh-pooh the idea that Christians should be offended no matter how blasphemous the work! They call us thin-skinned and overreacting. But let someone insult the prophet? Wow! The apology machine goes into overdrive.

So Hillary...and Obama and Sebelius, we're waiting to hear your apologies, not for what someone else did, but for  what your administration is doing to Christians. Let's start with the HHS contraceptive mandate!

What kind of idiots are running the country to apologize to these thugs? Remember, Obama supported Libya last year.  Like most Muslim countries we assist, they become more anti-Christian and anti-American. I suspect they laugh up their sleeves at our weakness. Meanwhile, we are infiltrated from within with terrorists actually training here. Watch for the president to bow and scrape to more countries that hate us. Hey, we are a bunch of colonialists who deserve everything we get from the 99 percent of the world.

Hearst says Cosmo targets teens with the graphics, color choices, sland and young models as cover stars. Publishers who go after youngsters deserve the biblical millstone and a very deep lake. I've been complaining to managers, putting that magazine behind others on the rack or turning it backwards for years (when I wasn't sticking it under bags of dogfood). Wrapping it up in brown paper isn't as good as the publishers wrapping it up for good, but it's better than nothing. Complain to a store manager this week about Cosmo and ask for it to be wrapped!

Reading on, I realized the individual was talking about natural family planning (NFP) which he obviously considered immoral and one more item in the Planned Parenthood inventory. As a long-time NFP teacher, I couldn't disagree more.

Is Anyone Surprised that the Nun on the Bus Supports Obama?

Simone Campbell, the chief nun on the bus, showed up at the Democrats convention to shill for the most rabid abortion proponent ever to sit in the oval office. While the Catholic Church teaches that abortion is unequivocally and always wrong, Sr. Simone doesn't know "if abortion should be illegal." But she sure knows that government handouts are the solution to all our problems. Not too surprising. Campbell heads up NETWORK which has a long history of supporting liberalism and working to elect liberal politicians. NETWORK cares more about the wetlands than babies growing in the internal wetland of the womb.

Campbell also misrepresented the Catholic bishops when she said they condmned the Ryan budget. The bishops did no such thing. A committee of the bishops' bureaucracy which is known for its partisan politics went after Ryan. No surprise. It's common knowledge that many USCCB committees list left. That's why so many orthodox Catholics would like to see it shut down. Several bishops have taken issue with the attack on Ryan calling accusations like Campbell's "calumny."

Campbell's tale of sob stories got big cheers from convention delegates, but she didn't explain what will happen to those poor people when the country collapses in economic insolvency. She didn't mention the astronomical increase in the national debt which obligates every household and future generations, endangering the American dream for our grandkids. Obama's "spending spree" enslaves future generations because the money to pay for today's handouts is borrowed and taxpayers are responsible for paying it back tomorrow. Consider that the costs of Obamacare aren't even included yet. Just wait until those new taxes and obligations are implemented!

A friend of mine who's a full time RVer says he's seen the impact of our economic downturn all over the country in closed storefronts, disappearing malls, and ghost towns. Every consumer is experiencing the cost increase in food and gas prices. Increasing tax rates on goods and services impacts everybody. And when businesses are taxed they pass those increased expenses on to their customers. Spiking gas prices hurt the non urban poor more than anybody. And how is robbing Medicare going to help the elderly just when more and more boomers are reaching the magic age? Less money means rationing; that's simply an economic reality.

There are many self-sacrificing sisters serving the poor. Simone Campbell is not one of them. Keep that in mind as you listen to her. She is a lobbyist. What do lobbyists do? Whatever is necessary to get their hands into the taxpayers' pockets. That pocket, however, is getting pretty thin.

Announcing to the world that you fornicate and then demanding others to pay for your right to do it without consequences is cheap and exploitive. Why should some grandmother living in a trailer or my children who are raising families be taxed so you can get free birth control pills while you travel the world with your rich boyfriend? Why isn't he paying for it anyway? You're his sex object after all; shouldn't he pay for his toys?

I love Thomas Sowell. Here's a taste from the article:

Obama was already doctrinaire at a very early age — and ill-informed or misinformed on both history and economics. 

His statement in Dreams from MyFather about how white men went to Africa to “drag away the conquered in chains” betrays his ignorance of African history. 

The era of the Atlantic slave trade and the era of European conquests across the continent of Africa were different eras. During the era of the Atlantic slave trade, most of Africa was ruled by Africans, who sold some of their slaves to white men. 

European conquests in Africa had to wait until Europeans found some way to survive lethal African diseases, to which they lacked resistance. Only after medical science learned to deal with these diseases could the era of European conquests spread across sub-Saharan Africa. But the Atlantic slave trade was over by then. 

There was no reason why Barack Obama had to know this. But there was also no reason for him to be shooting off his mouth without knowing what he was talking about.... 

Barack Obama is one of those people who are often wrong but never in doubt. When he burst upon the national political scene as a presidential candidate in 2008, even some conservatives were impressed by his confidence. 

But confident ignorance is one of the most dangerous qualities in a leader of a nation. If he has the rhetorical skills to inspire others to have the same confidence in him, then you have the ingredients for national disaster.

Exactly! Especially when it's combined with arrogance and deliberate deceit. So here we are four years later with the doctrinaire deceiver continuing to sell his snake oil. God help us all if he wins a second term where, in the words of Spike Lee, he can "do whatever he wants."

No, We Don't All Belong to Government!

Talk about an evil message. The very first statement on this video is a lie. "We are committed to all people," the voice says. Presuming that the "we" is the national Democratic establishment, they most certainly are NOT! They are NOT committed to the unborn. They advocate open season on killing them. They are NOT committed to Christians' right to freedom of religion. They ARE actively hostile to Christians and will force us to cooperate with their evil agenda while working for legislation that defines our beliefs as hate speech. They are NOT committed to those who believe in the Constitution; they are actively working to overthrow it. And that's only the first line. The Democrats' platform shows exactly how great a lie this claim to be committed to "all people" is!

And then there's the second statement. "We do believe you can use government in a good way." What exactly does that mean? For Democrats it means using government to coerce those with whom you disagree by stacking the courts with liberals who will legislate from the bench. That's exactly how we got abortion on demand and legalization of sodomy, both of which most of the country opposed. And that same strategy will likely give us same sex pretend "marriage" as well. Liberals use government all right, the same way socialist and totalitarian governments have used it for centuries -- to take over private businesses, shut down freedom of speech and religion, and turn the people into slaves of the state.

The next statement says, "We're together as part of our city or our county or our state and our nation." No we're not, at least not in the way implied as if we are all marching in lockstep togetherness. The local and state levels are where we express our DIFFERENCES and duke it out to see what philosophy of government will prevail, one based on the Judeo-Christian ethic or one based on secular moral relativism. There is little togetherness possible between those two worldviews.

Frankly, I find this talk of false togetherness eerie. It reminds me of the Nazi policy of Gleichschaltung which twisted language for the purpose of manipulation and confusion. The literal meaning is to switch onto the same track and the Nazis went about doing that with a vengeance forcing the nazification of all areas of German life. For example, all youth groups were brought together in the Hitler youth and other youth groups, like those run by the Catholic church were ultimately banned. Anyone who resisted the government "togetherness" was an enemy of the state. 

Don't ever be confused that government is your friend and is "committed to all people." The best government leaves people alone except for the bare minimum necessary. And, as the Founders believed, it must be constantly watched and sometimes resisted. Read the Constitution. There are very few legitimate roles for the federal government. Most issues are reserved to the state and the people. But that's not what liberals believe. They want to control our lives from cradle to grave. We need to be always ready to fight liberalism and defend freedom. 

What if you held a rally and nobody came?

Ask Planned Parenthood -- they built a stage and had the sound system ready for the throngs attending the DNC. Alas! Only a handful showed up. So what do you do? Make it look like a crowd, of course! Liberals have that act down pat. Just ask the media who cover the March for Life every year and make the opposition's few look like the hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers.

Hmmm...back to 2008 for the "forward" campaign. Just give him forty (oops four) more years and he'll get you that change he promised. And we should believe that because...? (Hey, he's made a lot of changes -- it's Bush's fault they all hurt the country!)

Have you seen Spike Lee's interview with Piers Morgan saying we should reelect Obama so he can do "whatever he wants" in his second term? Is that what being president of the U.S. means? Hey, bring on Henry VIII, George III, Napoleon, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Mao, Fidel.... They all did "whatever" they wanted because they were laws unto themselves. Is that what we want?

And have you noticed we had record high gas prices for Labor Day weekend? Thanks, Mr. President, for spending billions to help Brazil drill and banning drilling here.

The Democrats are not only Godless, They're Crazy!

Can the Democrats really believe that removing God from their platform will win them votes? Good grief, most people in the U.S., regardless of their religion, are people of faith. So how can this help them? Frankly, I think it demonstrates the principle that sin makes you stupid, and there's no doubt at all that the Democratic party officially sanctions grave sins. In fact, their platform champions two of the four sins that cry to heaven for vengeance - sodomy and murder of the innocent. (The other two are oppressing the poor and defrauding the worker of his wages. We can argue about those as well in view of liberal policies that hurt the poor and increase unemployment.)

But, really, I'm shocked by the fact that the Democrats are doing this because obviously they want to win. So why would they risk alienating millions of God-fearing people? Not only that, why would they make celebrating abortion a centerpiece of their convention? CNN polls show that most Americans oppose abortion in most cases - 62% in fact. Twenty-four percent of women want abortion made illegal in ALL circumstances. Even the young oppose abortion. (No surprise because pro-lifers are the ones having babies and their grandchildren are about to reach voting age! Our oldest grandchild turns 18 next year and she's in the vanguard of our pro-life family juggernaut!) Of those between the ages of 18 and 34, 59% want abortion illegal in most situations only excepting the hard cases (rape, incest, and life of the mother) which constitute fewer than 2% of abortions. That means most Americans want to eliminate 98% of the abortions in this country. Someday it will be 100!

So as the country becomes more pro-life, the Democrats become more hardline in making abortion a liberal sacrament. Their lineup of rabid pro-aborts is staggering. Are they nuts? Or do they figure they will win no matter what? Do they know something we don't know? Are the people who say Obama has a strategy to win "at all costs" right?

Comic Legend Cheers Clint Eastwood Performance at RNC

I think Clint Eastwood's performance at the RNC was hilarious, despite being a little vulgar. The use of an empty chair was brilliant. Let's face it, the oval office has had an empty chair since the man was elected. Between Obama's non-stop campaigning and fund-raising and his busy vacation schedule, he's hardly spent any time in the oval office working for the people. Nevertheless, he's been very successful at undermining the country 1) by his use of executive orders to usurp the legislative role of Congress and 2) his appointment of "czars" to cabinet level positions usurping the role of the Senate's constitutional right to advise and consent. I have no doubt that this president has committed more impeachable offenses than any president in history. But politicians are skittish to criticize the first black president because the media instantly labels them as racists. The use of the empty chair could also be seen as addressing a man in the dock. He's been tried and found wanting as Eastwood made so perfectly clear. When a man isn't doing the job, it's time to "let him go."

The liberal pundits went into overdrive to label Eastwood's unscripted comedy routine "weird" and paint him as suffering from "dementia." But a comic legend saw his act a little differently and I thought his remarks were interesting and on target. Eastwood sounded as "demented" as George Burns with the same sense of perfect timing. And that is what comedy is all about. Here's a snippet of what Jackie Mason said and you can listen to the rest on the youtube audio below:

“Clint Eastwood was trying to do one thing. He was trying to do a comedy routine and it was a brilliantly conceiv[ed] comedy routine. And he purposely put on an act of being a little frazzled, of being a little old, to make it sound like he wasn’t being intentionally abusive or directly attacking anybody.”
Mason said that Eastwood intentionally tried to convey the “meanderings of an older person who happens to be saying these things.”
“And this was so artfully, perfectly conceived,” Mason added. “[Eastwood] hit the nail exactly on the head and he made a total idiot out of Barack Obama.”

How Many Voters Think?

I was out to breakfast this morning with my brother and sister-in-law. We were talking about the sorry state of the country and the fact that so many people seem to be clueless about our nation's past and the devastating impact of liberalism. Lyndon Johnson's war on poverty through the Great Society policies of the 60s, for example, was never about eliminating poverty. It was all about increasing dependency on government to secure votes for Johnson by handing out goodies. And it was incredibly successful... at creating dependence and increasing poverty. Johnson's welfare policies destroyed the black family by driving men out of the home and setting up teenage mothers in households with a Big Government Daddy. And Johnson knew that's what would happen because adviser Pat Moynihan told him so! Let's hope enough voters have the common sense to realize that liberals want to keep them on the liberal plantation, either as welfare slaves or wage slaves.

I Just Love Those Soldiers of Christ

The public schools today will hyperventilate if students dare to wear t-shirts with a pro-life or Bible quote. They'll make students remove shirts or turn them inside out. Teachers censor kindergarten drawings if little ones dare to depict Jesus. Want to sing a song at the school talent show that has "too much Jesus" in it? Forget it! But post the quote of a secular humanist that makes man his own god, and it passes muster without a comment.

Ralph Waldo Emerson was one of the earliest proselytizers of secular humanism (defined as a religion by the Supreme Court) and a founder of the philosophical beliefs of transcendentalism. He was essentially a pantheist who saw all of nature as part of God. He summarized transcendentalism saying, “From the earth, as a shore, I look out into that silent sea. I seem to partake its rapid transformations: the active enchantment reaches my dust, and I dilate and conspire with the morning wind.” So for Emerson the sea, the wind, the dust, and I are all one and all "sacred" ultimately determined by my own "[sacred] mind." But should a public school that bans quotes from Jesus and the saints not practice the same restraint with new age "saints." The reader who shared this letter and photo thinks so. Do you agree?

Dear Principal Johnson,

Driving past Chantilly High School recently, I was deeply shocked and offended by what I read on the marquee.

The word “sacred” is a religious term for that which is holy, or associated with the divine.
1. devoted or dedicated to a deity or to some religious purpose; consecrated.
2. entitled to veneration or religious respect by association with divinity or divine things; holy.
3. pertaining to or connected with religion (opposed to secular or profane): sacred music; sacred books.

Believe it or not, there are some “extremists” out there who believe that God alone is holy, that that which is sacred is “set apart” (Latin: sanctum) and consecrated to Him.

I humbly count myself among them.

It is entirely inappropriate for a government-run public school to take a prominent public position proclaiming that only you are holy or sacred, in the “integrity” of your mind. That is a direct assault on those who hold other religious views, and openly disparages their views. Given the religious nature of Emerson’s “transcendentalism”, it is in fact advocating an “establishment of religion”, prohibited by the Constitution.

It flagrantly violates Fairfax County School Board Policy 1460.2:

Fairfax County Public Schools, as an agency of the government, shall be neutral with respect to religious beliefs and also shall not engage in any activity that either disparages or advocates religion.

The only potential counterarguments are (1) it doesn’t mean it, (2) we don’t mean it, or (3) we didn’t do it: 

1. “Sacred” is meant in a secular context. The structure of the statement clearly is framed to exclude any other meaning: Nothing else is sacred.

2. We don’t necessarily agree with the statement; we are just citing it. Then try in the coming weeks posting declarations from the Bible (“I AM the Lord thy God. Thou shall have no other gods before Me”) or the Koran (“rocks and trees will say: ‘O Muslim, O slave of Allah! There is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!”), and how far do you expect the “not necessarily the views of the school system” argument would go.

3. The students put it there. If the students posted either of the above quotes, that wouldn’t relieve the school from responsibility for the posting.

I demand that this offensive marquee statement be removed, and an apology issued to the community for this blatant attempt at government brainwashing with a new age humanist religion.

The Church Militant Takes the Sidewalk in Charlotte

Dear Charlotte pro-lifers: 

Thank you to all who came out for the Friday night prayer vigil in front of Time Warner Cable (TWC) arena and the Saturday prayer vigil at planned parenthood! All will attest, we are sure, that they were powerful, emotional and filled with the Holy Spirit! See below for some articles that give some pictures.

There were a group of 8 - 10 pro-abort hecklers, which the articles describe. They were quite loud on Friday night, trying to drown out our prayers, etc. On Saturday, the same group came to pp, this time standing away from us down the street, being quiet for the most part, holding their signs facing traffic (but read about the flower incident with them below).

The 3300 flowers, representing the number of babies aborted everyday in America, turned out to play major roles in both events, being laid in long rows on the sidewalk in front of TWC arena on Friday night, and then on the grass next to Albemarle Rd., in front of pp on Saturday morning. It was very stirring to have them there. Little story: one young man,on Friday night, who had been at the bus terminal across the street, came over to one of us and asked if he could take a flower to give to his girlfriend to thank her for choosing life for his son, who is due to be born in six weeks. She had wanted to abort him. He did not. She eventually chose life. Praise God! On Saturday, at the end of the vigil, we decided to leave the flowers in front of pp. A policewoman said it was ok, as flowers are not considered to be trash. When just a handful of our group was still there, the pro-aborts started kicking the flowers into the busy Albemarle traffic. Our group quickly picked up all of the remaining flowers, while telling them that they are not going to allow them to defile the flowers that way. The flowers were taken to their final resting place at Gaston Memorial Cemetery. The flowers had had quite an adventure and hopefully played a role in changing at least some hearts to the culture of life.
