Honesty Counts: Cardinal Sarah and the Withdrawal of His Signature from the Appeal

What a sad state of affairs. If you read my post earlier today, you know about the Vigano letter/petition, APPEAL FOR THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD to Catholics and all people of good will. 

Among the several dozen original signers was Cardinal Robert Sarah. But after the letter was published, he denied signing it which led to a letter of fraternal correction from Archbishop Vigano.

Stop the Bickering and Stand With Archbishop Vigano, Warrior, Shepherd, Friend

Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano is a hero, a warrior, disciple, and friend, who knows how to truly love his enemies.

I want to begin by clarifying the difference between modesty, privacy, and secrecy. 

Modesty requires us to not reveal in public the parts of our bodies and our behavior that is not meant to be disclosed.  Nudity, for example. Sexy revealing attire worn to attract lustful attention. Kissing.  Fawning a lover’s shoulder or neck.  Vulgar dancing.

The other day George Weigel wrote an attack piece on Archbishop Vigano that included a number of bullet points about the "manifestly false claims" Vigano made in his recent letter about the war in Ukraine. Weigel labeled Vigano a conspiracy nut comparable to Col. Grace-Groundling Marchpole, a character in an Evelyn Waugh novel. 

Ah...ridicule...it's an effective strategy as Saul Alinsky pointed out in his Rules for Radicals. Even I use it occasionally when things are too ridiculous to treat seriously and the ponderously pontificating need a little prick to their puffed up pomposity. (I know, I know ridiculous alliteration!)

Archbishop Vigano has been held up as an icon for his exposure of the homosexual network in the Church, and I'm grateful for everything he has done. But I'm also concerned that people will believe that McCarrick's exposure will bring us to the end of a sad chapter in Church history?

Will it?

Or is the Vigano affair an on-going soap opera and a cynical attempt to convince Catholic laity that the problem is being seriously addressed and solved.

People like to label things. In a complicated world it's a kind of shorthand. For example, in religious terms we may label our affiliation saying:

"I'm a Catholic."

"I'm a Jew."

Archbishop Vigano: Everything he writes is worth reading!

A friend and I were talking about Archbishop Vigano and his latest messages this morning over breakfast. We were lamenting the fact that there's no website where we can get a list and links to all his writings.

List of Bishops Callling for Investigations and Action: It's Growing by the Day!

Time for a serious investigation and a cleansing in the Church starting with McCarrick's
 pew mates Joseph Tobin and Blase Cupich, and of course Donald Wuerl wherever he is!

I'm not sure who put together this list, but it's growing by the day. And who is NOT on it is as interesting as who IS. Many bishops are calling for an investigation and are praising the integrity of Archbishop Vigano. Although, frankly, just coming out with a statement supporting an investigation is no proof of orthodoxy and fidelity. For example, Bishop Soto has been a cover-up agent in the Sacramento Diocese as well as giving aid and comfort to pro-abortion politicians. On the other hand he told a "gay" conference in 2008 that homosexual relations are sinful. Some participants walked out. Bishop Konderla is another puzzle. After taking over in Tulsa he threw out the  Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope, a traditional order of nuns. Intolerance for the traditional liturgy in consecrated life is hard to understand. At the same time, Konderla has been a strong advocate for babies in the womb. Sometimes it's hard to sort out the players. Orthodoxy is the great test. Cafeteria bishops have a credibility problem. Anyway, I pass this on. Some of these statements are powerful. Bishop Morlino, Bishop Paprocki, Bishop Olmstead, and Bishop Vasa are among my favorite bishops and, of course, the great Bishop Schneider -- but sadly he is not one of our U.S. bishops. Let's pray one day he'll be ours because we call him Il Papa!

In 2017 I wrote an article for Les Femmes titled The Children of Kalergi and reposted it in 2018. The article was about mass migration from Islamic countries (The Great Replacement). Mass immigration, currently happening at our own United States borders, is not a spontaneous phenomenon. "What the elites try to present as an inevitability of modern life, is actually the product of a plan conceived around a table and prepared by ideologues over decades to completely change the face of Europe, and now the United States".

Bob Marshall never shrinks from confronting power with the truth. No matter the cost to his own career, Bob always defends the faith, the family, and the common good. He is true Catholic statesman. And he makes a valid point that should give every Catholic concerned about the direction of our country grave concern: 

Cardinal Dolan's actions will make enacting legislation in conformity with the Natural Law immeasurably harder to defend especially for lay Catholics or Catholic legislators.

New York's Timothy Cardinal Dolan, appointed as Grand Marshal of the 2015 St. Patrick's Day Parade, praised the decision to allow an openly gay group to march in the annual parade. "I have no trouble with the decision at all ...  I think the decision is a wise one."

Editor's Comment: Archbishop Carlo Vigano sent the message below to the bishops gathering for the sex abuse summit on February 21st. It was the summit's opening day and also the feast of St. Peter Damian, the great warrior against the depraved practices of homosexual clergy in the Middle Ages. 

I'm posting this on the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter. These two feasts back to back emphasize the responsibility of Pope Francis to exercise authority over the crisis in the Church which is, in fact, a homosexual crisis. Ignoring that fact endangers the credibility of the hierarchy and illustrates a lack of transparency that puts to the lie all the fine words coming from the Vatican about their intent to resolve the crisis.

These feasts also coincide with new details coming out about Cardinal McCarrick and his "missing years" when he was apparently being groomed by the Communist party to become a Church insider attacking the faith. If you've read Bella Dodd's School of Darkness, you know full well that a Communist strategy was to plant agents in Catholic seminaries to undermine and corrupt the Church and destroy her authority to be a powerful witness in the world. And how effectively they did it!

Recently, I was absolutely staggered by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re telling Archbishop Vigano that, “We must obey the Pope even if the Pope does not obey the Lord.”

The Strategy of Silence

At our old house in Alexandria a beautiful old willow oak graced the front yard. It was the biggest tree in the neighborhood. I didn't love it so much in the fall when we were raking leaves, but the rest of the year it was my pride and joy. I loved to see its skeleton in the winter as it rested and the fresh chartreuse leaves in the early spring. It provided shade in the summer and a colorful display in autumn.

The year before we moved to the Shenandoah Valley (2001), my husband and I were standing at the front door during a violent thunderstorm when a huge flash and explosion shocked us! A bolt of lightening struck the willow and later we saw that it had actually blown the bark off one side of the tree. The tree "doctor" who came to examine the willow said to water and feed it and give it a year to see if it could come back. We sold the house when the leaves were just starting to come out. Things didn't look good, and when we returned to the neighborhood some time later our beautiful willow oak was gone.

Editor's Note: I'm reading the Book of Jeremiah and marvel at the parallels between what's happening today and the evils faced by the "weeping prophet." Cardinal Vigano more and more appears to be a prophet, called like Jeremiah to warn an evil age and evil leaders of the punishment levied on us by our actions. Heed Archbishop Vigano's call, Americans. Devote yourself to prayer and penance for our nation and our world. May God protect us in this time of great need especially through the intercession of Mary, our Mother.

Archbishop Vigano responded to the SSPX letter to Cardinal Fernandez outing him for hypocrisy. Really! 

Hypocrisy at the Vatican? Can you believe it? Or has that become the default position of many of our spiritual fathers? I personally wonder how many of the magisterium actually believe what the Church has taught for millennia. If they do, how can they abandon it so completely that they are ready to canonize a man I can only describe as a sexual predator, Bishop Alejandro Lbaka. What else can one call a priest who cavorted nude with young men and let them touch his genitals and bring about arousal? Is he going to be the patron of all the clergy sex predators who brought such scandal on the Church? Will his canonization be used to justify nudity and sexual play as natural?
