The Reasons Medical Care Costs are so High -- Waste, Fraud, & Abuse

Waste, fraud, and abuse, are already rampant in government-run health programs. If government can't control the problem now, how does expanding their role make any sense? Billions of taxpayer dollars are burned up every year with nothing to show for it. Give taxpayers more control over their health care and costs will go down. That's one of the recommendations of the CATO Institute. It's worth serious consideration. President Obama's intimate connections with one of the most fraudulent organizations in the country, ACORN, should also give taxpayers pause. The expression "Physician, heal thyself," comes to mind. If the president can't recognize rotten acorns, why should we trust him with the oak tree forest?

Health care (Medicare and Medicaid) fraud

Opinion: Waste, fraud, and abuse the weird sisters of healthcare costs

  1. The reason all health care be it private or medicare are so expensive is because $700 billion currently goes to health insurance overhead and administration and this does not include stock dividends.

Fraud is not a viable justification for denying health care. The costs and fraud are in fact screaming for reform.

  2. And there's no overhead with the federal bureaucracy? They all work for free right?

How much do you think the administration of Medicare, Medicaid, the Veterans Administration hospitals, etc. costs? I just have to shake my head over your statement. Nothing the government done is run efficiently. Look at the postal service.

There is no evidence that the government will give us quality health care at a reasonable cost. Look at the details. They are already talking about cutting services and "counseling" people to refuse end of life care.

  4. 2.2 trillion or about $7,000 for every person in America was spent in a year on health care. 45 million did not get it but pay for it every time they buy anything. It would cost 315 billion to cover them. HALF OF THE administrative costs of private insurance companies. Medicare has lower administrative costs but should be higher to prevent fraud.

Except for the recession, there is no company that can deliver a letter any where in the world for less than a dollar in only a few days.

All Obama is proposing is that if you only want FED-EX or UPS to deliver your packages and letters you are free to spend your money. However we need a public option for mail and health care but there will always be room for private insurance companies just like delivery, trains boats and trucking companies.

The public option isn't for everyone or for all things. I am sure insurance companies will be offering supplemental plans & employers will be offering supplemental polices to entice better employees.

  5. Obama has stated (and other administration officials as well) that they want a single-payer system. The bill says it will allow private health care, but it is a grandfather clause that limits new enrollments after the government plan goes into effect.

I'm reading the bill, but much of the language is confusing and many terms are not defined. Instead it states that a term has the same meaning as used in another piece of legislation. So exactly what do the terms mean? Is it like the UN using "reproductive rights" as a code word for abortion?

I wonder how many people have any idea what this 1000+ bundle of government bureaucratese really means. But maybe that's the idea.

  6. I have training and experience in reading and understanding these kinds of legislative and legal issues. Quite a few years ago, in working on interpreting a passed State Statute, the agency used my work as a basis for their regulations. I am still proud of that one.

The references to other legislation is necessary for at least two reasons plus many more.
    1. it saves paper. Without the references, the bill would be would be much larger. 2. Courts have already ruled on many of the definitions and other items included by reference.

It's always a benefit to live near a federal depository library but it's as you know tedious, time consuming and really hard but rewarding.
