Cui Bono? Who benefits from the publicity about the Obama Facebook poll?

Killing-Obama poll raises online questions

I used to be a very trusting person to the point of gullibility. Life, however, has a way of removing the blinders. Seeing the deviousness of which people are capable tends to wipe away all illusions and give one a big dose of "the real world." Which leads me to ask, who benefits most from all the publicity around the shameful Facebook poll about killing the president? Who benefits from the publicity? Where is the outrage directed and who will be assumed to be the villain of the piece?

Those questions are easily answered. Who benefits?: President Obama. Who is the presumed villain? Obama's opponents.

Before you jump to the conclusion that this evil deed was done by someone who really would like to see the president dead, consider how one of his creative supporters could use this to build hatred for the president's opposition and sympathy for the president. Is that beyond possibility? Not hardly.

Remember the McCain staffer who faked the attack on herself? And the fake rape by the Duke Lacrosse team? And fake acts of vandalism? There are plenty of liars out there looking for an angle.

I hope the FBI reveals who posted the poll. The results could be interesting and surprising as well. It's likely -- if the polster was serious, that he or she is probably a mental case -- like Tiller's killer and John Salvi who shot up the Planned Parenthood in Massachusetts. And that wouldn't surprise me either. An insane culture makes people crazy.

The greatest protection from IFV, the "insane flu virus," is Catholic truth and the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Confession. There are a lot of problems in the Church, but the faith is still the best protection from insanity.
