James L. Pouillon Mourned; Rest in Peace

Michigan Mourns Murdered Pro-Lifer

Debate rages on whether James Pouillon, slain anti-abortion activist, should be considered a martyr

It's sad to read the statement by Pouillon's son who hadn't spoken to his father in eight years! A lot can happen to a man in eight years even if all the son's accusations were true at one time. Does he think his dad got what he deserved? It sounds like it.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that a man can be motivated for twenty years to go out regularly to witness to the humanity of the unborn because he hates women. As a long-time pro-life activist and sidewalk counselor, I know the cost of being out week after week and the energy it requires. Hate can motivate for a time, but I seriously doubt he could have hidden it from the pro-lifers around him for long.

Other questions come to mind as well. What are the son's views on abortion? Or his politics? Or his religion? Is his vitriol motivated by other disagreements he had with his dad? His statement certainly reflects an anger of his own. Did he hate his dad so deeply that he snapped a photo in his head of a man who was never allowed to change? The fact that a daughter spoke at Pouillon's memorial service makes one wonder if his son is dealing with his own problems, especially in so viciously attacking his father when he can no longer defend himself.

Family relationships are complicated; that's all this proves.

But one thing is for sure. No one deserves to be murdered for standing on the sidewalk showing the visual reality of pre-natal development and abortion. Pray for James Pouillon and for his family including his estranged son.

  1. Let me see if I've got the son's reasoning straight. His father hated women so much, he wanted to be shot on the sidewalk. Maybe I'm missing some step here.
