The "Red Mass" is Well Named: Many Bloody Hands Attend!

Today the "Red Mass" took place at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, D.C. This event welcomes Supreme Court justices, politicians, lawyers, etc. to a special liturgy invoking the Holy Spirit and is scheduled before the first Monday in October when the Supreme Court session begins. The Mass gets its name from the red vestments worn to represent the invoking of the Holy Spirit.

In recent years the event has been rocked by controversy as pro-lifers oppose Communion being given to pro-abortion Catholic politicians in violation of Canon Law 915. The Mass is open to the public. At least they say it is, but today a woman who regularly attends St. Matthews was denied entry. Why? She was wearing a pro-life T-shirt. She changed but was denied entry when she returned. Guess they didn't want a pro-lifer raining on their parade.

But think about it. Inside the Church were pro-abortion politicians like Joe Biden, pro-abort judges like Sonia Sotomayor, how many pro-abortion Catholics approached the altar and were welcomed to desecrate the Body and Blood of Christ? Meanwhile a Catholic who regularly attends Mass at the Cathedral was shut out, in fact arrested, because she claimed her right to attend Sunday Mass.

Our friends at Restore DC Catholicism posted a video on this disgraceful situation. But it wasn't surprising. Archbishop Wuerl has made it clear that pro-aborts are welcome to receive Communions sacrilegiously in his archdiocese. Like other politician/bishops before him in history he continues the tradition of tickling the ears of those committing scandal and heresy. God have mercy on him.

His red vestments today were a reminder of the blood of the babies killed not only by the abortionists but by the silent voices of those with the responsibility to defend them.

May God have mercy on our silent shepherds.

Supreme Court Majority Opinion: Attend Red Mass

  1. Many thanks to Missy Smith, Randall Terry, Dick Retta, and Ruby Nicdao for getting together all of the pro-life people to witness to the justices, politicians, and public before & after the Mass about child killing & Canon 915. We were heard! A priest even thanked us for being there. We stood there powerless as Joan was arrested. She stood up for our Lord & Savior and was persecuted for it. What a disgrace for the church.
