The voices of conservatism are being heard. Dede Scozzafava dropped out of the 23rd district race in New York today and released her supporters which gives Doug Hoffman's race a big boost. Her record has been misrepresented all along but not the way she means. Even this morning I heard a political analyst on the radio describing her as a "moderate." That is laughable! Scozzafava was neither a fiscal or social moderate and she was supported by radical leftwing Democrats. Exactly what in her record made her Republican is baffling. That the party put her up as their candidate shows just how out of touch they are with their base. Scozzafava was a tax and spend liberal who, on the social issues, was an extremist. It's interesting that now the pundits are talking about the "ultra conservatives" taking over the GOP.
What exactly is ultra conservative about supporting the constitution, traditional marriage, and the life issues. In the 1950s that was mainstream and it still is mainstream today among most of the middle class.
Extremism is calling sodomy "marriage," child-killing "choice," and burdening our great-grandchildren with crushing debt "stimulus." There are extremists out there, but you won't find them among pro-life conservatives. And the country is beginning to wake up. Let's hope the GOP does, before it follows the way of the Whigs.
Newt Gingrich converted to Catholicism in March. But when he appeared on the Greta Van Sustern show to throw his support behind Scozzafava giving short shrift to the cultural issues like abortion I had to wonder who catechized this guy? No surprise when I googled this from the NYT: "Mr. Gingrich was confirmed into the church on Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Capitol Hill and celebrated that night, according to The Hill, with friends at Cafe Milano, one of Washington’s most insider-y dining establishments. His guests included Cardinal McCarrick, the retired Cardinal of Washington."
ReplyDeleteBig problem - and I had a sneaky feeling this was coming. She's endorsing the Democrat. If her RINO supporters go for Owens, it's big trouble. We had a similar situation in Maryland, when Andy Harris beat Wayne Gilchrist in the primary for the 1st Congressional District. Gilchrist had a snit-fit, endorsed the Democrat, and the Democrat won - from a usually red district, too.
ReplyDeleteI think the so-called "voice of conservatism" is made up of choir members singing a lament that signifies no real trust in God. Jesus assured us the Kingdom of God was in our midst and would attain fullness, as the seed planted eventually will bring forth new life. It is the work of God, not the result of our feverish and egoic plotting. Suggest that conservatives and anyone with a big ego (that should include infected liberals, too) to give us a break and stop equating their opinions with the truth. The opinions may point us in the direction of the truth, God, at times. Please, give all of us a break. Give yourself a break. Quit weighing us down with egoic opinions and egoic mindsets. Get out of the way. Let God does his work in bringing about the Kingdom. Don't be so certain that your know what the Kingdom will look like and that your opinions tell us what the Kingdom should be like.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what you point is, in medio. God works through people. To believe that we should all just sit and wait for God to do things is the heresy of quietism. I agree that people need to be careful about making their "opinions" God's, but when one is talking about "doctrines" as taught by Jesus Christ through His Church, those are not opinions.
