Question for the Day: Do You Ever Visit the Lonely in Nursing Homes?
“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.”
Sometimes it is hard to "visit" strangers, but you can find ways to interact with those in nursing homes, etc. I take my daughter (11) to an assisted living facility about once a week, where she plays piano (really just practices her weekly lesson) for about half an hour. I chat with whomever stops by the common room to listen and my 4 year old charms the office staff. It's such a small time commitment but it does bring a lot of joy to the residents.
