Of Server Problems and Blog Silence

For the past two days my server has had the flu...or something. I was able to log on briefly yesterday morning before Mass then...nothing...no connection...just error messages. So much for updating my blog.

The first call to Shentel at about 10:00 a.m. got a recording saying the problem would be cleared up by 3:00 p.m. Three came and went. Another call had an updated recording assuring customers they expected everyone to be back on line by 10:00 p.m.

Nope again.

This morning the 7:30 a.m. message said, "by late morning." At 2:00 p.m. we were still offline and apparently Shentel had decided to stop updating their recording since all  their predictions had come to nought. Finally, about 5:45 my granddaughter sounded the alert that the Internet was up.

It got me thinking about people who depend on the internet for their jobs. The local co-op where my husband picks up birdseed had to call the credit company on every credit transaction reducing efficiency significantly. And just think of all the Facebook users who couldn't update everyone on what they had for breakfast!

As for me, I worked on the quarterly Les Femmes newsletter, but was frustrated at not being able to do online research. I read a few Catholic magazines instead, did puzzles with my granddaughter who was here for the day, and reflected on life without the internet, otherwise known as the old days.

  1. I feel your pain - trite but true for you, because I really enjoy your writing. I'm glad you're back. God bless!

  2. It's rather funny how spoiled we have become is a few short years. The Internet only began to become widespread and popular around 1996 and now we can hardly get along without it.

It is amazing how much information we have at our fingertips, although as people sometimes discover, some of it isn't all that reliable.
