Fr. James Haley: Will He Break His Silence?

I've posted the latest news on Fr. James Haley at my Bishop Loverde, Where is Fr. James Haley blog. For ten years Father has been silent on the details of diocesan efforts to shut him up. Will he speak up now?

  1. I have not heard that Father Haley has been excommunicated or defrocked by the Holy See. If I had, I would not be referring to him as “Father” as he would have lost that title. But if Father Haley has been excommunicated by the Holy See (not by his bishop or by some latae sententiae punishment attached to an alleged crime but actually excommunicated by an act of the Apostolic See) you can be sure that you don’t have the whole story and that Mr. Haley (as he would then be known) is indeed guilty of some grave and unrepentant error. He might be defrocked—justly or unjustly—for his actions regarding clerical misbehavior, abridging the right to privacy of his fellow priests, disobedience to his bishop but formal excommunication is taken very seriously in Rome and the process is followed scrupulously. If the excommunication is true, there is more to the story than you or I know. In the meantime we must pray for him.
