Let's Hear it for the Second Amendment!

The Battle of Athens occurred just a few months before I was born. The lesson is -- Don't let them take your guns. As Thomas Jefferson said, "A little rebellion now and then is a good thing." In this case it saved a town from the corruption of the local political machine. Read Jefferson's letter here.

  1. This is a great video. It was really refreshing. If we are to be honest with ourselves, no counting should be done in secret, away from the voters. Using rhetoric like, " Well, we have to protect the votes from tampering, that's why we put them in trucks and count in secret" is pure deceit. Anybody or any party who says that is saying so because they are planning to alter the and disregard the vote of the people.

  2. Too bad we don't have enough judges these days who follow the rule of law. Today, these heros would be thrown in jail by the dic tator*in*chief's goons faster than you can say "Putin"!

  3. Ha! The Second Amendment has been distorted. It was meant to have people owning guns in a well-trained, regulated militia, and written in a time before handguns, Uzis, etc. were ever invented. Every Tom, Dick and Happy Trigger being able to own a weapon of destruction has obviously been a disaster. I've never heard of a legitimately armed citizen stopping a crime. People kill people, sure - but our gun laws sure help. I don't see how anyone could claim to be pro-life and support our gun industry. Hypocrisy!

  4. Gosh, you must not be paying attention if you know of no cases where guns have saved lives. Check out this website http://gunssavelives.net/. And after that read this http://townhall.com/columnists/johnstossel/2010/06/23/guns_save_lives/page/full/ and this http://www.keepandbeararms.com/information/XcInfoBase.asp?CatID=43 I could go on, but you get the idea.

The story that resonates most with me is the one about the 18 year old mom whose husband had just died. Two bad guys who knew she was alone with her baby (One had been stalking her.) went to her home to break in and do who knows what? When the first guy broke down the bedroom door and came at her and the baby with a knife, she shot him dead with 911 on the phone. I'm glad she had a gun or she might be the one on the morgue slab. Ah...but perhaps you feel differently. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/mom-calls-9-1-1-asking-for-permission-to-shoot-intruders-before-killing-one-using-12-ga-shotgun/

I'm providing these links for those with open minds. I'm not sure they will make any difference to you. Maybe not -- or the fact that the lowest crime rates are in states where law-abiding citizens have the means to protect themselves from crooks and hoodlums.

As for your interpretation of the second amendment, the SUBORDINATE clause is about the militia; the INDEPENDENT clause states that "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The militia is just one example of the need for that right.

And I'd say that mom was acted as the law enforcement "militia" in her own home to protect her little community of two. Thank God she had that right!

  6. DB, I removed your post primarily because of its anti-Semitism. You cite Hitler's violations of rights, but the greatest was the targeting of Jews, Catholics, political opponents, etc. and sending them to the death camps. I also looked at your website and there's no way I can promote your prejudice or your conspiracy theories. Sorry.
