American Legion Won't Allow Girl to Attend Mass

The American Legion talks about respect but has none for Catholics who participate in their Girls State program. Catholics may not leave to attend Mass during the program and they will not allow a priest to come and say Mass for participants. Is that an example of tolerance do you think? Check it out. Maybe Catholics should decline to support the American Legion -- at least the one that engaged in this blatant act of discrimination which makes it impossible for any serious Catholic girl to attend their Girls State program.

  1. Or an example of how a small group want to make it so that they can change the rules to fit their needs. If someone feels so strongly that they have to go to Mass and they know in advance that the program doesn't allow it, then that person shouldn't go. I thought you were all about people not receiving special treatment.

  2. It is laughable that The last Anonymous poster should refer to Catholics as a "small group" given they are the largest religion on the planet. But all that aside the constitution while separating politics from religion in the first amendment is very careful not to "prohibiting the free exercise" of religion. Why should a value upheld by the Nations constitution be denied by another. The bible is quite clear on church attendance it states in Hebrews 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (NIV) and to many Catholics there is no other church meeting but Mass that will suffice.

  3. The American Legion overruled the mother's right to take her own daughter to Mass. That action is so tyrannical, it is shocking. No one asked the legion to change their program or make special arrangements for her. But to justify the A.L.'s abusive action isn't just "laughable" it's pathetic. This wasn't about special treatment, it was about a secular organization making a policy that excludes all serious Catholics from participation. All Catholic girls had to choose between committing a mortal sin of missing Mass or not participating. That is religious discrimination and saying they "shouldn't go" illustrates Anonymous' bigotry.
