...on his own authority and without due process. Eric Holder says he has the authority. But if a president can target an American citizen for death, and send a drone to kill him, why can't he send officers to arrest him? Our Constitution demands due process? No president has the right to kill citizens without trial. This is tyranny plain and simple and it bodes ill for the future if Congress does nothing to stop it.
We've already seen Americans murdered on our soil when the Clinton administration committed atrocities at Ruby Ridge and Waco. Enough is enough!

Here's an excerpt from the Huffington Post. It's clear that Holder said it's legal to use a drone to kill an American citizen on U.S. soil. He qualifies it, but still claims the administration's right to make the determination about who can be killed:
ReplyDelete"The Obama administration, Holder said, rejected the use of military force where 'well-established law enforcement authorities in this country provide the best means for incapacitating a terrorist threat.' But in theory, it'd be legal for the president to order such an attack under certain circumstances, Holder said.
"'The question you have posed is therefore entirely hypothetical, unlikely to occur, and one we hope no president will ever have to confront. It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States,' Holder wrote.
"'For example, the president could conceivably have no choice but to authorize the military to use such force if necessary to protect the homeland in the circumstances like a catastrophic attack like the ones suffered on December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001,' Holder continued, referring to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Holder said he would 'examine the particular facts and circumstances' if such an emergency were to arise."
Holder has since said the administration could not target "non-combatants" with a drone kill. So everything falls at present on the definition of non-combatants. Frankly, this doesn't console me much since this is the Humpty Dumpty administration where when they use a word it means whatever they say it means. I'm a member of a group (pro-life activists) that has been described as "domestic terrorists." It gives me pause.
