Perfect Lenten Prayer Method -- Given by the Lord Himself...

Two years after Sr. Mariana made her vows, God showed her a way to pray and meditate that would bring her quickly to sanctity. Each morning had its own particular focus on an element of the Passion. In the afternoon the meditations focused on self examination and the four last things  (Taken from the biography by Msgr. Luis Cadena y Almeida) The program reminds me very much of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Think of the progress a soul could make who committed just ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes in the afternoon to follow this spiritual method recommended by God Himself. The Meditations:

Monday: The washing of the apostles' feet and the institution of the Holy Eucharist. 

Tuesday: Our Lord's prayer in the garden and in prison. 

Wednesday: The presentation of Our Lord to the high priests and the judges of Jerusalem and the lashes that He received at the to show His love for us. 

Thursday: The crowning of thors, the "Ecce Home," and how He carried the Cross on His shoulders to His crucifixion. 

Friday: The holy mystery of the Cross of Our Divine Redeemer, the seven last words, and His death.

Saturday: The lance thrust that Our Divine Redeemer received after his death, His Holy Mother's sorrow and tears, and the funeral services. 

Sunday: The descent of the soul of Our Divine Redeemer into limbo, His glorious Resurrection, and His apparition to Our Lady, Saint Mary Magdalen and His disciples.

In the afternoon she was encouraged to reflect on:

Monday: Knowledge of self and remembrance of sins committed and their seriousness. 

Tuesday: The condition and misery of human life. 

Wednesday: Death. 

Thursday: The final judgment. 

Friday: Hell. 

Saturday: The blessed happiness of heaven. 

Sunday: The general and particular benefits that are daily received from God and our infinite debt of gratitude toward our loving God.
