The Fifth Mystery of Light: Institution of the Holy Eucharist

Prayer to appreciate the Mass: O Lord Jesus, in order that the merits of your sacrifice on the Cross might be applied to every soul of all time, you willed that it should be renewed upon the altar. At the Last Supper, you said: "Do this in remembrance of me." By these words you gave your apostles and their successors the power to consecrate and to the command to do what you yourself did. I believe that the Mass is both a sacrifice and a memorial- reenacting your passion, death and resurrection. Help me to realize that the Mass is the greatest gift of God to us and our greatest gift to God.

  1. A blessed Easter to you. What the heck is the mystery of light? Never heard of it.

  2. It's the alternate name for the Luminous Mysteries of the rosary by Pope John Paul II.

    The Baptism of Jesus
    The Wedding Feast at Cana
    The Preaching of the Gospel
    The Transfiguration
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist

  3. Aha. That's why I didn't recognize the term. To each his own ~ I stick with the centuries old traditional Rosary, myself. Happy Easter to you.

  4. I know a lot of people feel that way and I respect that. It's certainly true that adding the five new mysteries upset the connection between the 150 psalms and the 150 Hail Mary's of the traditional form.

But I always felt like there was a big hole between the Joyful and the Sorrowful Mysteries, so I appreciated the addition. I love to meditate on them, especially the wedding feast at Cana and the Last Supper.

I wish you a Blessed Easter as well, Elizabeth. May we all grow closer to Christ each day through our prayers and devotions.

  5. From California,

The Lord is risen; he is risen indeed.

Although, I sing in a Latin chant choir most Sundays at my bishop's approved Traditional Latin (Extraordinary) Mass, I, too, love the Mysteries of Light and pray them often. We need the Older Latin Mass for the beautiful Latin and English translation and to honor the older saints, and we need the Newer Mass to honor the newer saints, and there are many, such as St. Gianna Molla and St. John Paul II. We Christians need so much to unite as that is the worst nightmare of those who push for Shariah Law and the caliphate.

May Jesus Christ be praised, now and forever more.
