Killing Isaiah: Walking in the Footsteps of the Prophets

Isaiah 6:6 - The burning ember purges Isaiah's tongue so
he can become a prophet of the Lord.
Today's first Mass reading described the enemies who attacked the prophet Isaiah, but as I listened, I heard modern voices speaking out against anyone who, like the prophets of old, invites our modern culture to repent, submit to the will of God, and return to Him like the prodigal son.

I've played a little loose with the text (in red) using the plural instead of the singular since Isaiah, to me, represents the prophetic role of all those challenging the immorality of our culture.

Join me in listening in:
Homosexual activist: Those pro-lifers and homophobes are "obnoxious to us." They "set themselves against our doings, reproach us for transgressions of [God's] law and charge us with violations of our training [in the ten Commandments]." Who do they think they are those evil hatemongers, especially those folks at Mass Resistance who publicize what we do!
Lesbian couple: "To us they are the censure of our thoughts; merely to see them is a hardship for us, because their life is not like that of others and they're ways are different." Can you believe anyone goes to daily Mass and prays the rosary ever day? Here's my answer to those intolerant Christians, Keep your rosaries off our ovaries! It's judgmental to tell us we are violating God's will with our unnatural relationships. We're confident God approves whatever we want to do, because He's a nice guy and merciful. Besides, there's no such thing as hell, and, even if there is, we feel justified in our actions.
Transgender person: "They judge us debased and hold aloof from our paths as from things impure. They call blest the destiny of the just and boast that God is their Father." What a joke! God hates them because they dare to judge good from evil and say what we're doing is wrong. "With revilement [and accusations of hatred and homophobia] let us put them to the test that we have proof of their gentleness and try their patience."
Homosexual activist: That's not enough! "Let us condemn them to a shameful death!" Let's destroy their businesses, sue them, and pass hate speech laws to shut them up and put them in jail!
The Scripture writer  tells us, "These were thoughts, but they erred; for their wickedness blinded them, and they knew not the hidden counsels of God; neither did they count on a recompense of holiness nor discern the innocent souls' reward." (Book of Wisdom 2:1a, 12-22)

Scripture also tells us there is nothing new under the sun. The jamming and slander against Christians today is the same that beset the prophets, most of whom were murdered. Jeremiah is called the "weeping prophet," but all the prophets wept over the sins of Israel and the people's hard hearts. And what did they do to the prophets? They stoned and killed them for telling the truth.

So when we are reviled and "jammed" and suffer the stones of name-calling, let's rejoice. Remember when the apostles were scourged by the Sanhedrin and left praising God because they were found worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus? Let's embrace their attitude and offer up any little difficulties we face for speaking the truth and offer them for love of Jesus, the conversion of our persecutors, and in atonement for sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Obadiah, Daniel, and all you prophets and apostles of God, pray for us that we will walk in your footsteps speaking the truth and calling the lost back to God and His holy will.
