Am I "Filled with Anger and Hatred?"

I sometimes get accused of being filled with anger and hatred in the comments section of the blog. Why? Because I (and my colleagues) dare to say that some things are evil. That proves we are (take your choice) hate-filled, intolerant, mean, racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, and (as one critic described me) an ugly cow. (Moooo!)

That didn't make me angry actually; I just laughed. But, yes, I do get angry:

  • about laws that allow "doctors" to drag little babies out of the womb into the birth canal, stab them in the back of the neck and suck out their brains before delivering their poor, little, lifeless bodies.
  • about those who think children are objects of pleasure to molest and abuse.
  • about sex trafficking
  • about female genital mutilation
  • about starving and dehydrating to death the sick, disabled, and elderly
  • about pornography that treats women like meat (and men too these days)
  • about poisoning the food supply with round up treated crops and poisoning women's bodies with cancer-causing chemicals that supposedly give them "reproductive freedom."
  • about slandering decent people for daring to be non-leftists
  • about rewriting history because the facts are politically incorrect
I could go on....and on...and on.

What amazes me is that more people aren't angry about these things. How can reasonable people tolerate what is intolerable? As Fulton Sheen once wrote in A Plea for Intolerance:
America, it is said, is suffering from intolerance. It is not. It is suffering from tolerance: tolerance of right and wrong, truth and error, virtue and evil, Christ and chaos. Our country is not nearly so much overrun with the bigoted as it is overrun with the broadminded. The man who can make up his mind in an orderly way, as a man might make up his bed, is called a bigot; but a man who cannot make up his mind, any more than he can make up for lost time, is called tolerant and broadminded. A bigoted man is one who refuses to accept a reason for anything; a broadminded man is one who will accept anything for a reason—providing it is not a good reason....
Sheen goes on to say:
Tolerance applies only to persons, but never to truth. Intolerance applies only to truth, but never to persons. Tolerance applies to the erring; intolerance to the error.
And so I respond to those who accuse me of "hatred." You are 100% wrong. I don't hate anyone, even when I hate the evil they champion. I don't hate the abortionist or the pornographer or the person who slanders me. In fact, whenever someone writes a personal attack on my blog, I pray for them even when I won't post their vile comments. I offer my rosary for their conversion and hope one day we will meet merrily in heaven. Because I want everyone to go to heaven including the "poor sinners" falling into hell shown to the little children of Fatima. I want to cast them a life preserver or catch them in a net and break their fall.

So when I'm having a bad day or am in physical or mental pain I pray the prayer Mary taught to the little shepherd children. "I offer this for love of Jesus, the conversion of poor sinners, and in atonement for sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary." That is true love -- willing the good of those who hate you!

Because that's where the hate is -- among those liberals who will not tolerate the truth! Remember how they gnashed their teeth at Jesus before they crucified Him, at St. Stephen before they stoned him to death, and at St. Paul when he preached what was intolerable to their ears.

Robert Spencer, who runs Jihad Watch recently spoke in Iceland, a liberal La-La-Land. That evening after his talk someone poisoned his meal as he was eating at a restaurant. He ended up in the hospital. Who was guilty of hate? Was it Spencer for exposing the truth about the Muslim religion? Or was it the individual who hated what he said enough to hate the man and poison him? The answer is obvious.

Spencer wrote something about the experience that is chilling when you think about it:
Learning to be good little Nazis.
All over the West, as Leftist students riot and physically menace conservative speakers and Leftist spokesmen indulge in the most hysterical rhetoric to defame their foes, politicians cower in fear and decline to discuss these issues, only ensuring that the problems I identified when I spoke in Reykjavik will continue to grow in Iceland and elsewhere.

As they were rising to power in Germany, the Nazis indoctrinated their young followers with the same message: those who oppose us are evil. Those who brutalize them are doing a great thing. The Left’s demonization of its opponents today will lead to exactly the same thing. It already has for me, in beautiful Reykjavik.
Prepare for martyrdom. You can practice by accepting the small, white martyrdom of daily life: the criticism and ridicule, the open hostility, the rudeness and contempt. Say thank you to God as the apostles did for being found worthy to suffer for the Lord. Because when you stand up and defend the truth, you are standing with Him Who is Truth.

Lord Jesus, you who are the Way, the Truth, and the Life, give me the courage and perseverance to always speak the truth in charity no matter the consequences. Amen.

  1. When we were doing the Orlando Truth we received hate mail and burned newsletters returned to us as ashes in envelopes, were spit on, yelled at, hated and reviled. I so miss those days!! Never have I felt so alive!

Blogging is just the same! When we get under their skin enough to anger them we must be doing something right. It isn't that we offend on purpose; it's just that the Truth enrages people who are not living it.

Maybe we need to bring our own bottled water to public meals. And yes, the Left will kill just to get their way because the Left's god is Satan who is the father of death. Their solution is to get rid of the Truth any way they can. If they can't change our minds, they will kill us.

  2. I love reading your blogs. You make me feel like i have kindred spirits in this world when I am surrounded by the liberal, progressive, leftist Democrats who think that only what they say & believe is the real truth. I feel sorry for all of them because unless they let Jesus change out their hard hearts for clean hearts, they will never know the truth or true happiness. I continue to pray for their conversion.

  3. It is so much easier for people to remain on "autopilot" or be like an ostrich with their head in the sand. I am one of those priests who do challenge those who invite me to speak and those who sit in the pews. What I find very interesting is the response from those who are not my parishioners which is "Thank you for speaking the truth" compared to a large percentage of my parishioners which demonstrate an action of "Who is he talking to and about?" When the Illumination of Conscience comes there will be many who are surprised indeed!

  4. Wow! Such words of truth! I love Fulton Sheen and also the image of my Rosary as a life preserver. This should be read from every pulpit and in every high school and college class, no matter the subject - yes, I'm dreaming. And praying!

  5. I admit to getting angry when i read a lot of your blog posts. I come here only to remind myself to remain vigilant that there are people who think their "truth" surpasses other people's civil rights. But I let go of my anger by donating to PP or the ACLU or Amnesty International, or by volunteering my time in resistance of the current administration - true evil if one believes in that sort of thing. Rock on, lady - you do your thing and I'll do mine.

  7. Omigosh Anonymous,

I'd hate to be you on judgment day. It's not my truth; it's God's. Every cent you donate to PP and other liberal groups that advocate the murder of the innocent is piling up judgment against you -- not my judgment -- God's. Your arm's too short to box with God!

I'm offering my rosary today for your conversion. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, save souls! Our Lady of Fatima, intercede for Anonymous.

And, please readers, join me in prayer and sacrifice for the conversion of sinners beginning with ourselves.

  8. Thank you for writing this piece. It seems we are very much alike. I get angry over some of the same things which anger you. In fact, I get angry, a righteous indignation, over the fact that other people do not seem to care about such important things and don't seem to be bothered by such things as the horrible tortuous killings of innocent helpless babies in abortion.
I do pray for them,...for their conversion. However, if they continue in their sins of omission or commission, I would certainly not want to be in their shoes on judgement day! The murder of innocent children is an abomination that cries out to Heaven for vegeance.
Sadly, a lot of people today are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, and according to the reference in Revelation 3:16 ...only to be spit out...
In the final judgement, we will be judged on what we did and did not do in life for Jesus and His brethren.
Not all who say Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven. People can go to hell for sins of omission as well as for sins of commission. Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or ....?
"Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, that you do unto Me."

Thank you for your very interesting and informative blog. Thankfully, you have the Fire of the "Holy Spirit" within you. God bless you.

  9. I think your issues run deeper than anger. You take pleasure in hurting others. You're a smug, self-righteous old woman who damages Christ's church here on earth with your meanness and pettiness and penchant for gossip and personal digs at others.

You're a very unpleasant, unkind woman, and there's nothing loving or godly or of Christ about you.

You drive others away from God, from the Church, from Christian community and fellowship. You worship idols with feet of clay. Ultimately, you serve Satan.

    Shame on you.

  10. Whoa! I let N's 100% ad hominem attack go through to give readers an example of what is truly an angry and hate-filled individual. Here is someone who posts anonymously who no doubt considers herself (unless It's a him) godly and Christ-like. What do you think, readers?

  11. You took the words right off of my keyboard, Mary Ann! ;^)

Let's go through some of ~N.'s post.

    S/he says of Mary Ann:

"You take pleasure in hurting others. You're a smug, self-righteous old woman who damages Christ's church here on earth with your meanness and pettiness and penchant for gossip and personal digs at others."

Dear N, did posting that please you? Were you not hurting another? Are you not being a tad smug, self-righteous and damaging Christ's Church? (which, BTW, Mary Ann is a part of) Was not that one small paragraph being mean and petty? Were you not taking a personal dig at another? (again, at one who is a part of the Mystical Body of Christ)

    You go on:

"You're a very unpleasant, unkind woman, and there's nothing loving or godly or of Christ about you."

N, does writing that make you pleasant, kind, loving and godly?

    You close with:

"You drive others away from God, from the Church, from Christian community and fellowship. You worship idols with feet of clay. Ultimately, you serve Satan. Shame on you."

N, does what you wrote about Mary Ann drive others to God, His Church, from Christian community and fellowship? Does telling her that she worships idols with feet of clay do the same thing? (drive others to God, etc.). Are you serving God with your post to/about Mary Ann? Are you proud of what you wrote about her?

    I'll close with this:

Obviously I disagree with your assessment of Mary Ann. I find her refreshing and a breath of fresh air. She teaches the truth and sometimes that involves the first spiritual work of mercy (admonishing a sinner). Yet, from all of the posts I have read by her over the years, she does it with a sense of saving souls. (and *that* I should be the goal of every Christian no matter their particular vocation)

God love all who read this blog.

  13. Funny how when one of your own says terribly gossipy mean things about another Catholic, they're speaking hard truths, but when someone speaks some hard truths about one of y'all, then that person is out of line.

What a pack of stinking hypocrites you are. Whited sepulchres, the lot of you.

Do you really think you have God fooled? Again, shame on you.

  14. The difference between your comments and the posts is that you attack by calling names; we criticize people's behavior or their opinions. There's a big difference as Bishop Fulton Sheen pointed out in his essay, A Plea for Intolerance.

Do you really think you have God fooled with your name calling and personal attacks? Shame on you. My response is to offer my rosary for you. Why don't you do the same for me?
