Want a Sure Litmus Test to Measure Your Bishop? Is He Forcing Communion in the Hand?

Archbishop Wester "presided" at the
2018 Assembly Mass of AUSCP.
US archbishop bans Communion on tongue, claims it’s ‘not crucial’ how Catholics receive

How many liberal bishops like Wester will use the coronavirus as a pretext to ban Communion on the tongue and demand parishioners receive in the hand?

Well...how many bishops enabled the sex abuse scandal with coverups and moved abusers around? I expect to see more liberal bishops follow Wester.

One good thing is that he can hardly ban Communion in the hand without banning Communion under both species. How can he claim putting the host on the tongue is a risk while allowing a communal cup to be passed from mouth to mouth? I wish that practice would disappear forever! Intinction yes, communal cup with hordes of LEMs (lay extraordinary ministers) NO!

Now let's take a deeper look at Archbishop Wester of Santa Fe. The diocese has suffered for years from bishops allowing dissenter priest Fr. Richard Rohr free rein to spread his scandalous dissent! Wester is certainly not the man to call, "Whoa!" and rein in that renegade. In fact, Wester himself is deeply involved (up to his eyeballs) with the heretical priest group, AUSCP (Association of US Catholic Heretical Priests).  In fact, Wester is the Episcopal Moderator of the group and is scheduled to be one of the "keynoters" at their 2020 conference along with liberal and compromised Catholics John Carr and Sr. Carol Keehan. Rohr keynoted in 2018. (To see former moderators including Blase Cupich go here.)

What a head shaker all this is! Many descendants of the apostles resemble Judas these days rather than St. John and all his martyred brethren. Which leads me to say this with ten exclamation points. NEVER EVER blindly follow any cleric. KNOW YOUR BISHOP! KNOW YOUR PRIESTS! Blind trust and blind obedience killed the innocence of thousands of children from predator priests and bishops who abused them. And these men kill the faith of many others by enabling and blessing heresy! God help them; they need it!

On the positive side, the AUSCP overwhelming represents mostly decrepit old white priests who are, or are nearing, not only retirement, but the check out aisle. (Hey, I'm in that aisle myself with my rosary in hand and plans for frequent Confession.) Pray for them. Much is expected from those who have received so much from God!

Archbishop Wester champions (and obviously has for years) a heretical group with a sorely limited future. Shame on him! What a scandal he is to his flock!

No minorities! Shame on all those privileged white males.

Here are a few articles to learn more about the archbishop.

If I were in Wester's diocese I'd have plenty of fodder for my Les Femmes newsletter. He's a hero of the Fishwrap, no surprise. But it should be a big red flag for Catholics who embrace the teachings of the Church, because that polluted rag certainly does not!

Watch this issue carefully because it does, indeed, reveal a lot about a bishop. The risk of contracting the coronavirus is no more likely from receiving on the tongue than receiving in the hand as the Portland diocese recently pointed out. That being the case, no health justification exists for doing it. It's ideological -- at least in this country with clean water and good hygiene. In fact, what should be suppressed is the Sign of Peace because the hands are the greatest transmitters of germs and the coronavirus can remain active on door handles, counter tops, etc. for up to nine days. Here's what the CDC says about "high touch" surfaces:
High touch surfaces include counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, and bedside tables. Also, clean any surfaces that may have blood, stool, or body fluids on them. Use a household cleaning spray or wipe, according to the label instructions. Labels contain instructions for safe and effective use of the cleaning product including precautions you should take when applying the product, such as wearing gloves and making sure you have good ventilation during use of the product.
Why would a bishop violate the canonical rights of the people when transmission by the hands is every bit as likely, if not more likely, to pass the virus on? The answer is self-evident.

When I was at Costco yesterday, employees were wiping the carts with disinfectant. Has Bishop Wester asked parishes to start wiping the tops of pews constantly touched by parishioners? How about the doors in and out of the Church? As Rahm Emmanuel infamously said (He wasn't being original -- liberals rarely are), "Never let a crisis go to waste." That is certainly the case here. I suspect the bishop dislikes Communion on the tongue. Perhaps, like the pope, he considers traditional respect for the Eucharist proof of "rigidity." The coronavirus offers an ideal opportunity for liberal bishops and priests to impose their preferences on everyone.

I hope those dioceses imposing a ban on those who receive on the tongue will drive more Catholics to the traditional Latin Mass. Many dioceses have one within an hour of home. And, if that isn't possible, Bishop Athanasius Schneider says it would be preferable to make a spiritual Communion rather than treat the Eucharist in a casual manner. Hopefully, I won't have to make that choice here in Arlington. I think the bishop would stir up a serious rebellion among many of our priests and laity attempting such a ban.

Priests, bishop reveal rashness in banning Communion on tongue in response to coronavirus

The hype over the corona virus is ridiculous. What's the worse that can happen? You get it. You die.

Most people who get it require no intervention at all. Like other flues, they recover. The group that does die are the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. We're all going to die. Whether it's the corona virus, pneumonia, an accident, cancer, a heart attack, a stroke, etc. it's inevitable. Panicking is useless.

Wash your hands and go to Confession. Life is short no matter how long you live. Handle it with prayer!
