Today is the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary. Blessed be her Holy Name!
Following is a condensed version of the Miraculous Medal story, followed by a little advice:
Catherine rose, knelt beside the Blessed Mother and rested her hands in the Virgin’s lap. Mary said: “God wishes to charge you with a mission. You will be contradicted, but do not fear; you will have the grace to do what is necessary. Tell your spiritual director all that passes within you. Times are evil in France and in the world.” (Continued here.)
Mary Anne,
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great blog which I’ve been reading for some time. It has been edifying that you are in Traditional mode now.
I was sent a chapter on The Holy Name of Mary by St Alphonsus Ligouri and it’s stunning that the name Mary was never used in the Old Testament. God reserved her name especially for her just as He named Adam and Eve! So it’ll be fun to know - is Mary a fundamentally Catholic name?
Thanks for your kind words, Warydoom.
ReplyDeleteGod brings good out of every bad situation. It was COVID that brought my husband and me back to the TLM, the Mass of our youth. The only Masses here in the Diocese of Arlington were at the fairgrounds in Winchester. The priests travelled five hours round trip to minister to us from the seminary in Dillwyn. They sat out in the hot sun in the field hearing confession. On a dismal, drizzly, frigid Holy Thursday Fr. Reuter shivered saying Mass.
When the churches opened again we reflected on whether we should stay with the chapel or go back to regular attendance at our NO parish. In addition to falling in love with the TLM, we felt we owed such a debt of gratitude to the SSPX, we could never pay it back if we had another lifetime to live. So here we are and here we'll stay. When we can't get to daily Mass we pray it at home and make a spiritual Communion. We haven't totally abandoned the NO, but, at this point, it seems to me that it's the sacrifice of Cain. It is painful to me to sit through it.
