In Which Cardinal Roche Rants about Those Pesky "Keyboard Warriors!"

Cardinal Arthur Roche
Mundabor's blog pointed me to an article at Gloria TV this morning quoting Cardinal Roche,
head of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments. Roche laments those pesky bloggers, "keyboard warriors" he calls us, who defend the traditional Latin Mass and are having an effect on seminarians and others.

What a compliment!

What defender of the Mass of the Ages wouldn't thrill at Roche's words!

Somehow, I don't think he meant to be encouraging, but all the "keyboard warriors" out there (I like to think of myself and Susan among them) should smile this morning. My morning coffee is certainly especially gratifying.

As I commented on Mundabor's blog:

Thanks for the link. I love the term “keyboard warriors!” Roche makes it clear that we belong to the “Church Militant.” And, as Fr. Norman Weslin (Fr. Baby Doe) used to say, "The Blessed Mother is our Twelve Star General." Victory belongs to the Lord. And so we fight on. Thanks, Mundabor, for a great post. I’m linking to it from my blog this morning.

It's a rainy day here in Woodstock, but the sun is shining in my heart. No matter what the Vatican does, we keep the faith. I always think of myself as a gnat for the Lord. Coming from a place where gnats give us a particular hand wave, I know how pesky gnats can be. May we persevere until, with the help of our angels, we "keyboard warrior" gnats drive the fifth column from the field!

Cardinal Roche should consider Gamaliel's advice to the Sanhedrin:

Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do, as touching these men. 36For before these days rose up Theodas, affirming himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all that believed him were scattered, and brought to nothing. 37After this man, rose up Judas of Galilee, in the days of the enrolling, and drew away the people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as consented to him, were dispersed. 38And now, therefore, I say to you, refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this council or this work be of men, it will come to nought; 39But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it, lest perhaps you be found even to fight against God. And they consented to him.

It's time for these enemies of the traditional Latin Mass to recognize that they can never eliminate it if God wills it to continue. And I'm confident He does!

We may be a remnant, but not a silent one. We are subservient to the Lord alone and follow the unchangeable Dogma and Sacred Tradition. We cannot be blown off course by the bloviating of false shepherds.

St. Michael the Archangel, be our field commander as we fight on!

  1. You said: "It's time for these enemies of the traditional Latin Mass to recognize that they can never eliminate it if God wills it to continue."

I am not certain that they believe in God who wills. More likely, they believe in an impersonal force that "progresses", crushing everything on its path with its own weight. It is a so called "spirit of the times." The spirit of the times is to them the Holy Spirit. Their deity is an impersonal universe that expands according to some physical laws that came into existence through chance out of chaos also known as a primordial soup. The universe and god are the same thing to them. There is no place for any will in it, unless we equal will with the inevitability of effects following causes, all according to the laws of physical matter. As mentioned, these inevitable and necessary laws ruling all matter evolved from the chaotic primordial soup. Where did this soup come from, they do not explain. And how does one pray to the inevitable and necessary forces ruling the universe? How does one inject anything outside of the predictable and necessary into this cause-effect chain?

"Go out a create mess" - is the message of Bergoglio to the youth. One may ask: How can the head of the Catholic Church (Jesus Christ, whose will Bergoglio allegedly and infallibly expresses) desire mess rather than order, when He Himself always teaches us about His order, His rules, His commandments? How can the visible Church, built on the unchanging Word of God and holy Tradition tell its people now to overthrow Tradition and through a deliberate destruction (mess making) bring forth a new world order? For guidance in creation (by humans, not the Creator, and using the elements of the primordial soup that have been - allegedly - organized incorrectly by Jesus Christ and the Church) we no longer pray to God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit, but to Pachamama, Mother Nature, impersonal physical matter.

/The question of the Church as built on God's Revelation to us and holy Tradition in light of appeals to so called "agents of change", the youth (naturally rebellious against tradition), to go out and destroy, is never even taken on by Beroglians./

I know, this new and improved deity doesn't make any sense to a rational person endowed with free will. We are to accept that it comes from the enlightened, the ones not rational but feeling and having unique personal experiences, not endowed with free will, but "born this way".

  2. In the context of pushing for literal war then armchair warrior and keyboard warrior and perjoratives, but in a context where physical violence is not expected it can't mean that. Or is the cardinal suggesting the Vatican can only be set back on the right course by an armed invasion by the laity? Because normally keyboard warrior is a perjorative to mean someone too cowardly to fight physically.

  3. I'm not discouraged. Young people tend to be idealistic. I think many of them will have the desire, nurtured by their guardian angels, to seek the truth. And if your are looking for the truth, you are looking for God. We need to ask people the ultimate questions. Why are we here? Does life have a purpose? What are your hopes and dreams? Too many people are so anesthetized by social media and TV, they aren't awake enough to ask the questions. We need to shake things up and help them look for answers. On St. John Bosco's feast day, I'm praying for the young. They are the future and God loves them with a particular love! St. John Bosco, pray for us.

  4. I wasn't aware of that connotation, cardinal direction. But I prefer to think of it in terms of the "pen is mightier than the sword." So is the keyboard when it is used to promulgate the truth and fight for the faith. I think Thomas Aquinas and the Fathers of the Church would agree.
