My mom used to say believe none of what you hear and half of what you see. Today, with AI, photoshop, etc., confusion is rampant and that advice is more relevant than ever. I recently posted a long statement that is ostensibly from Padre Pio. As one commenter said, it doesn't sound like him. I haven't been able to authenticate it, but it spurred me to buy a book, Padre Pio in His Own Words.
It's hard to know these days who's telling you the truth and who is twisting the truth or outright lying. Let us stay close to the Lord and pray continuously for wisdom. The devil prowls the world looking for souls to devour and one way he does that is blowing smoke to make us all doubt everything. Study the doctrine of the faith, holy Scripture, writings of the saints and the doctors of the Church. Increase your devotion to your guardian angel and patron saints. They are pillars of truth and true guides to lead you to the kingdom of God.

ReplyDeleteWhere in the Bible does it say that Scripture is the only source? St John says that if everything Jesus taught were written down, there would not be enough books to contain it. Not only that but the Bible canon was only completed and disseminated in the 4th century by the Catholic Church. So what did Christians do for the first three hundred years when there was no scripture to be sola?

I mentioned on another blogger's site today that I received from a Padre Pio site a decal that says, 'St. Padre Pio Save Us.' A minor point is that if he is a saint, we don't need the title, 'Padre'. Saying St. Padre Pio is like saying 'Dr. Mrs. Smith or Professor Mr. Jones.'
ReplyDeleteBut very important is the prayer 'Save Us'. Padre Pio does not save us. He prays for us and encourages us. He would be the first to discount that statement, Save Us.
I'm unsure about this. I knew a priest who, before he entered the seminary, was on a pilgrimage to Guadalupe. He was mugged and dragged into a car and kept calling out to Our Lady of Guadalupe to save him. The muggers finally said, "You're loco!" and threw him out of the car. That played a big part in his deciding to become a priest. And then there was Tobias who traveled with St. Raphael who was very active in protecting him on his travels and saving his father, Tobit, from blindness. I get what you are saving, but even our prayers like the one to St. Michael the Archangel imply their participation in saving us from the wickedness of the devil. Of course we pray to him "by the power of God." So I don't disagree with you, but perhaps the people who write those things think that the saint acting through the power of God is understood. Just thinking and rambling.
