Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais Dies

The SSPX has released the death notice for Bishop Tissier who died today at 10:08 p.m. in Econe, Switzerland. You can see the announcement here which links to the pdf with brief biographical information. His biography of Archbishop Marcel LeFebvre is a tour de force that will live after him. It is a tremendous resource relating the history of the crisis in the Church and the archbishop's heroic defense.

May Bishop Tissier rest in the peace of the Lord and rejoice in meeting his dear friend, Marcel.

Repose en paix avec le Seigneur.

  1. Please do not assume that everyone that you have liked is in Heaven.
I am tired of every N.O. funeral that I have attended in the last 30 years that is an immediate canonization of the deceased. Of the billions of people who have died throughout history the number of canonized Saints is a paltry number.
I recently heard of a local funeral of a Priest in which the congregants were instructed to pray TO him. Not FOR him.
The Baltimore Catechism clearly cautions against the sin of Presumption.
I am on board with praying for the repose of the soul of the Bishop (along with Lefebvre) but leave the presumptions to God the Judge.
Death and Judgement are not sentiments in Hallmark sympathy cards.

  2. Wise advice, Anonymous. We should all pray for our loved ones as if they depend on our prayers for their salvation. My dad died in 1985; my mom in 2002. I pray for the repose of their souls every day and have Masses said for them frequently. I trust that if they are not in heaven yet, they will be. I've offered many plenary indulgences for them and hope I had the disposition to fulfill the obligations. I will pray for them and all my loved ones who are gone until the day I die and for those still in the Valley of Tears afterwards. But I will ask for Bishop Tissier's intercession, especially if he is suffering the fires of Purgatory since suffering is redemptive.
