Melania: Beauty is Skin Deep

Today my husband and I celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary. Sad to say, one of the first things I saw this morning were excerpts from Melanie Trump’s soon-to-be-released memoir. Her position on abortion reads like a Planned Parenthood ad. It reeks of selfishness and god-like autonomy and pride. All I could think was poor, selfish, silly woman. Beauty is skin deep; what about your soul? How many of your children did you kill? When a woman is that adamantly pro-abortion, one can’t help wondering if guilt is behind it. I’ve met many women justifying their abortions with abortion advocacy. I’ll be praying for Melania’s conversion.

Of course, Melanie probably didn’t write the book, but she obviously approved the content. And my best guess is that it’s a cynical move to reduce the anxiety of the killing crowd to defuse their hostility. That seems to me to be a forlorn hope, at least with those who embrace abortion as their satanic sacrament.

As I reflect on my own 55 years of married life, bearing and rearing children, fighting for God’s little ones, I am incredibly sad. Here’s a woman with wealth beyond counting, privileged economically, physically beautiful showing no humility and no gratitude to the Author of life. The book represents a scandal that at worst will earn her a hot seat in hell and at best a long stint on the hot seat in Purgatory (if she repents). I’m praying for her today and especially for poor Barron. The sins of the parents are visited on the children. Barron is a primary victim of his parents’ scandals. I’m praying for that poor young man today as well.

An anniversary is a time to express thanks to God for His many blessing. The greatest among those gifts are the blessings of children and grandchildren. Next weekend we will celebrate our oldest grandchild entering the state of marriage. She and her fiancé wisely planned a holy hour preceding their rehearsal. How happy we will be to join that graced event to pray for their marriage. And what a flood of memories of that little one going with me so often to morning Mass, lighting candles, and heading to Krispy Kreme when she was “doughnut good.”

I’m thanking God today for all the grace-filled memories of a long life: many happy, some sad - like the rosary: five for sorrow, ten for joy.

May Jesus Christ be praised!

  1. Beautiful. Well said.

    Congratulations!

Your family is a living, breathing example of the beauty of life as God intended in His live for us.

As we approach the end of our earthly days, and prepare to meet God in person … nothing else matters than that life, well lived. And helping as many lost souls as possible to find The Way.

  3. Congratulations on your anniversary and on the wedding of your oldest grandchild! May their marriage be happy, long, and lasting.

Upon reading of Melania's stance on the murder of babies, I, too, was incredibly saddened. Why did she do this?

  6. Happy anniversary to you both, and congratulations! Melania's announcement is sad to me, as well, but it is a great reminder our heroes have clay feet, all of them. Her husband is a great man, and we need him. Yet he's just a great man, and God is God, and He uses weak people to do His will. Melania is like most, lovely on just the outside.

  7. "Doughnut good" -what a cute expression!

The 1st thing I said to my daughters about the book- I'm guessing she had an abortion.

I have no doubt it was a political move but pro-aborts aren't going to vote for Trump no matter what she writes. Why do the 1st ladies always act like it's their duty to be pro-abortion?
