Of Puzzles that Spark the Imagination...

I like puzzles. Last night my granddaughter was saying she didn't like Geometry, but it was my favorite math class for two reasons. It was like a puzzle and it involved logic. They both intrigue me and put my brain to work.

Every week when The Epoch Times arrives, I immediately go to the puzzle page to work on the big sudoku puzzle and the cryptic quote. Often the quote sets my mind thinking about what it means. Spoiler alert: If you get the Epoch Times and haven't done the cryptic quote but intend to -- STOP! Work on the cipher first and come back later to read the rest.

This week's quote was from Charles Dickens. I've read most of his works. He had great insight into human nature and many of his characters show the tragedy of the seven deadly sins and their impact on life. Today's quote has me reflecting on what he meant by this particular observation:

"There are strings in the human heart that had better not be vibrated."

Hmmm...that's my puzzle for today. What did Dickens mean and what strings was he talking about? Anyone who's lived to adulthood and even many children have experienced heartache and even heartbreak. What strings should be avoided in order not to further damage a wounded heart?

I think the answer will be found by drawing closer and closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As my husband and I go to visit my suffering sister today, I will be asking Jesus to give me greater wisdom and compassion. What heartstrings do I need to avoid playing in order not to add to Jeanne's suffering?

Francisco of Fatima lived his brief life with a great desire to console the wounded heart of Jesus. "Love is not loved!" he often lamented. He saw no use in going to school since the Blessed Mother told him he would die soon. Instead he spent his days in the little church with his arms wrapped around the tabernacle where he sought to console the "hidden Jesus." That's where I want to go in my mind today when I meditate on the Sacred Heart.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
