I'm less disturbed by the fulminations of the Left over Trump's win than by the statements of pro-lifers who continue to express their TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). Is Trump our savior? Absolutely not! All he offers us is a temporary reprieve. But he is unlikely to do what Harris promised to do: nationalize abortion once again and force doctors, nurses, and other medical care givers, druggists, insurance companies, Catholic hospitals and schools, etc. to face criminal penalties if they refuse to participate in abortion. She promised to force taxpayers to pay the bill for trans surgeries for military and even illegal aliens. She is an enemy of free speech. We dodged the bullet of Democrat extremism temporarily, but the writing is on the wall. America is in a death spiral and Trump may slow the fall, but it's inevitable unless we repent.
King David was an adulterer and a murderer. And yet, God called Him a man after His own heart. That always puzzled me when I was younger until I realized that the ten commandments given to Moses were on two tablets for a reason. The first three are the most important. They relate to our relationship and obligations to God. The last seven refer to our duties to our neighbor.
King David failed to honor his duties and obligations to neighbor. Why was he enjoying the soft life in the palace while his men were in the field fighting? Why did he gaze upon Bathsheba bathing, perhaps deliberately where he could see her, instead of looking away and avoiding temptation? Why did he conspire to murder a faithful friend so he could cover up his sin? David illustrates the adage that power corrupts.
But, despite all his sin, he never violated the first three commandments. He never erected shrines to false gods like his son Solomon did later. He always recognized God, even in times of trouble when his son Absalom rose against him.
But his sins had serious consequences to his children. After Solomon's reign the kingdom was divided and the sins of Israel and Judah multiplied with some of the worst, bloodthirsty monarchs in history.
Trump is no King David. He can be vulgar and crass. But I have never heard him blaspheme. Maybe he has. He is certainly steeped in sinful behavior. But God shows throughout history how he uses evil men and women to fulfill his Divine Will. And he often gives them the grace of conversion like St. Paul.
Let us pray that he does that with President-elect Donald Trump and our soon-to-be first lady, Melania. Let us pray that when they play with their grandchildren they recognize the right to life of the most vulnerable. The Eucharist and the rosary can and have worked miracles throughout history. Let us pray for a miracle of conversion in the life of the soon-to-be first family and our entire country that we all become models of integrity and goodness.
Mary Ann I encourage catholics to go back and listen to his 2016 Warsaw speech. He demonstrated his deep understanding of world affairs and the attacks on christendom and the West. He gets it. The man knows history and cares so deeply about Americans and our nation. I find the naysayers so out of touch with reality and terribly sanctimonious and naive. Hes a gifted man whom God is using because all we have are flawed people to choose from. I do wonder if some of these people think they themselves are actually perfect and beyond reproach. People are confounding.
ReplyDeleteWow. What a twisting of scripture. David was chosen to be king when he was a shepherd boy watching over a flock and composing psalms to God. His first deed was to slay Goliath. "that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know, that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for it is his battle, and he will deliver you into our hands." 1 Kings 16 & 17 (DRB) When he was anointed King, God said to him: "and the Lord said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel. " 2 Kings 5:2 (DRB) The wages of sin is death. After David slew Uriah, God sent Nathan to him: Thou hast killed Urias the Hethite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house, because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Urias the Hethite to be thy wife. Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them to thy neighhour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, and in the sight of the sun. And David said to Nathan: I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David: The Lord also hath taken away thy sin: thou shalt not die. Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing, the child that is born to thee, shall surely die." 2 Kings 12 (DRB) David is cursed and stoned: "Let him alone and let him curse: for the Lord hath bid him curse David: and who is he that shall dare say, why hath he done so?...Behold my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now a son of Jemini? let him alone that he may curse as the Lord hath bidden him. Perhaps the Lord may look upon my affliction, and the Lord may render me good for the cursing of this day. And David and his men with him went by the way. And Semei by the hill's side went over against him, cursing, and casting stones at him, and scattering earth." 2 Kings 16 (DRB) David wanted to build a house for the Lord, but God told him he wasn't worthy: "Thou shalt not build a house to my name: because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood" 1 Paralipomenon 28 DRB.
ReplyDeleteTrump has murdered his own children: Maureen Dowd referred to Trump’s suggestion this week that women who have abortions should be punished – a comment he swiftly retracted – when she wrote: “Given his draconian comment, sending women back to back alleys, I had to ask: When he was a swinging bachelor in Manhattan, was he ever involved with anyone who had an abortion? ‘Such an interesting question,’ he said. ‘So what’s your next question?’”

Hitler survived many assassination attempts "miraculously" (esp 20 JUL 1944) in the eyes of the world/his followers. Funny how you compare Trump to a king when 'our country' was founded against kings: rule of whim vs rule of law and to King David who was to sire the messiah. Jesus was called Son of David and also King of the Jews, but he saved us by laying down His life not by being "spared." Jesus deemed equality with God nothing to be grasped at, but Trump has the most important job in the world (really? I thought motherhood was that). David said God will deliver us; Trump's podium reads: "Trump will fix it."

It all comes very close to blasphemy to me.
You also compare Trump to Cyrus. Cyrus, King of Iran, ended the Babylonian captivity. Christian (notice that's an adjective to) Zionists have been saying that since 1st admin. Not sure if paid by Israel/Jews, but Trump has been purchased by the Jews (Adelson Netanyahu) to make Israel great (MIG) and his cabinet picks reflect that.

I suspect both these comments are from the same anonymous source. Are you saying God was clueless about what David would do? There is no "time" with God. He knew exactly what the future would bring from the time David was conceived in the womb. He had him anointed anyway. Trump has certainly committed many evils. He's also done much good. Shall we leave his judgment to God and encourage him to bend the knee?
