Sunday Meditation: A Mini Retreat on Prayer and Contemplation

Fr. David Torkington is a cancelled priest, driven out for exposing sex abuse in his religious order decades ago. He tells us we must return to the early Christian prayer practices which encompassed four principles.

  1. It is royal because it is the life lived by Jesus Christ the King. We need to take significant time and space to receive God's love and to learn to love Him. Meditation helps us connect with Christ. Fr. Torkington calls us "back to prayer; forward with Christ the King."
  2. It is contemplative. We can only love those we know and only know those we love. Meditation and contemplation help us to know Christ.
  3. It is redemptive. The early Christians prayed and meditated throughout the day at various hours on the passion and cross that redeemed us.
  4. It is sacrificial.
Father has a website with a free retreat entitled Prayer to Contemplation and several other series. I plan to do one video each Sunday for 15 weeks to grow closer to the Lord through offering one hour as sacrificial love. Father has the patronage of Bishop Athanasius Schneider.
