Babbling Nonsense

Living in a country that more and more resembles a lunatic asylum has its interesting moments. The flap over the monkey cartoon is just the latest babbling nonsense. First of all the monkeys who put together the spending bill sit in Congress. Like the violent baboon on a rampage, the Democratics are assaulting and raping the taxpayers (with a little help from RINOs - Specter, Snowe, and Collins). It was an appropriate comparison. One can accuse the cartoonist of poor taste, but racist? That's a real stretch. Besides...didn't we all descend from monkeys? So who is being insulted? I think the baboon is the one who has the beef being compared to Congress.

So what's the uproar about really? Opportunity. Playing the race card is a great distraction. So while Obama occupies the highest office in the land, throws Wednesday cocktail parties to woo liberal Republicans, and enjoys all the privileges of the elite, white America stands once again accused of racism. Forget the fact that Obama was elected by whites. The country is still a racial enclave ready to lynch blacks at a moment's notice. It makes great theater and that always distracts from the problems at hand -- like the fact that Obama, who talked about hope, preaches nothing but despair which is reflected every day in the Dow. Like the fact that the so-called stimulus package is nothing but a Democrats' dreamworks for liberal programs and paybacks. It's theater all right, theater of the absurd.

Which takes me back to my college days when I enjoyed being in the drama club. Since Trinity was down the street from Catholic U.'s famous drama department (Fr. Hartke was still its head.), I also occasionally acted in a student director's graded production. I particularly remember a one-act play by Eugene Ionesco called The Leader. It depicts a group following an unseen messianic-type leader. As the play progresses the mob becomes more and more frantic running around with arms outstretched calling "Leader, Leeee..der, Leee..eee...eee...eee...der." Our director had us make the call more and more a bleat until we sounded like a flock of sheep. At the end of the play the mob finally sees the leader (the audience never does) and has the terrible realization that "the leader has no head." Indeed...the mindless masses have been following an equally mindless leader.

Unfortunately, that is where we are today. Obama is in way over his head. He has surrounded himself, not with voices of change and hope, but with old retreads from the failed Clinton years. His agenda is the worst of liberalism joined to the worst of Chicago-style politics. The end result is predictably grim, but that's what happens when the lunatics are in charge of the asylum.

  1. A Washington Post poll shows that 62% believe the cartoon is racist.
We are no longer a nation of thinkers :(

  2. It's pretty bad when all you have to complain about is people complaining about a stupid joke.

And who would know more about messianic-type leaders than the republicans who become more and more frantic running around with arms outstretched calling "Leader, Leeee..der, Leee..eee...eee...eee...der as they followed theirs on war spending stimulus bill into Iraq. Now that they broke the country, they want to get off the merry-go-round and not give back their 1.2 Trillion tax cut.

Republicans are the Party of NO,choosing to be the party of "No", racism, obstructionism, tax cuts for the rich, eat the poor and real life circumstances be damned.

Now you want to become a thinkers? Too late the country is broken.

  3. The principle advantage that the Democrats have is their stranglehold on the media. They've had a de facto monopoly there for a long time.

The Democrats specialize in divide and conquor playing the race card, the poverty card, the greed card, and every other divisive card they can find and saying they are the party that "cares" -- "feels your pain" when what they really do is crave power and soak everyone to pay off their constituencies.

I agree that it is all great theater, but not so much of the absurd as of the black comedy variety where all ends in despair.

Cheer-up the next stimulus you feel will be the euthanasia needle when you are no longer needed because you're no longer paying enough taxes.

  4. As far as the cartoon goes, it is just insensitive. A wild animal was living in a very unnatural situation, suppressing his natural instincts that wild animals have. A woman was seriously injured and the chimp is now dead. This cartoon was in bad taste. It's not racist. Bush was compared to a chimp many times (at least in my mind he was).
