Vatican II Redux at the Synod: Follow Your Conscience

Archbishop Cupich lays the groundwork for those in immoral situations to justify receiving Communion while they remain in their sinful situations. Are we surprised?

Let's evaluate what's going on here. First of all, Cupich was not elected but appointed by Pope Francis. And now he is using language that can easily be misunderstood just as it was after Vatican II. Here's part of what he said:
"If people come to a decision in good conscience then our job with the Church is to help them to move forward and respect that. The conscience is inviolable and we have to respect that."
Now one could say that he is talking about a truly informed conscience, since he goes on to talk about Church teaching, etc., but what do you think will be picked up here as the message to the world? "Follow your own conscience!" Did you notice any attempt to describe what having a "good conscience" means? Was there any elaboration on informing one's conscience according to the mind of the Church. No, there was simply an allusion that promotes the idea that we are all persecuting and refusing to see eye-to eye with homosexuals. Please! That kind of false accusation is getting old and tired.

Think of Nancy Pelosi who calls herself a "devout Catholics" while she votes for legislation to rip babies limb from limb and champions those who sell their body parts after the murder. She's "following her own conscience." Likewise many other pro-abort politicians who continue to receive Communion sacrilegiously. Archbishop Cupich has made it clear that he will not refuse Communion to those committing grievous public scandal despite canon law 915. He has not enlightened anyone here, but has provided justification for those who want to claim to be devout Catholics following their own consciences. Does anyone believe AB Cupich would refuse Communion to an out and proud homosexual dressed as a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence? At some point they will no doubt test him if they haven't already.

But be of good cheer, the archbishop promised to act on climate change.

  1. I made the comment immediately after his being named AB of Chicago, "This is Bernardin dedux". Sucks being right.

  2. This is truly pathetic.
How can a Bishop hide under the cover of being Pastoral and freedom of conscience due to the direct failure resulting from two generations who got fed weak and heterodox catechesis .which he and his ilk had the mandate to pass on in it's entirety?

This is double speak in the name of being "charitable" and a rude slap in the face to every sincere Catholic who taught and followed the Dogmas and Doctrines of the Faith.

  3. I would hope that the third and final week of Stonewall, er, the Synod is renamed the Synod on homosexuality or better still the synod on homosexuality in the priesthood. Let's get all the agendas out of the closet, eh boys. Let's everyone bending over backwards to sound "pastoral", as if they are crying for wounded families and not themselves, pull the curtain aside and show us who you are (cupich, Rosica, dew, Kasper, Wuerl, I'm talking to you and the entire chorus line -- just be straight (no pun) about who you are and what you really want to happen to Marriage, Holy Orders and the Eucharist. Then we can address queering the Catholic Church honestly and in the open.
