Sunday Meditation: On Living in a Mad, Mad World that Desperately Needs the Truth!

Catch sinners with the golden goose of truth.

For behold, the days shall come, wherein they will say: Blessed are the barren, and the 
wombs that have not borne, and the paps that have not given suck. [Luke 23:29]

Well....I'm back from retreat, back to the real world that has become an exaggerated version of the Twilight Zone.

I could say I'm back to the real bizzaro world where Bruce Jenner wants to adopt a baby so he can pretend to be a mommy and women who can be mommies are getting sterilized because they're mad about Roe v. Wade being overturned. It's a head shaker, but on the bright side, a sterilized liberal won't scandalize a poor, innocent child.

Some grammarian will no doubt tell me I'm wrong to use the word "mad" and say the women are "angry." But I use that word "mad" very deliberately. We are living in a mad, i.e. insane, world. 

In the Old Testament barren women were considered cursed. Hannah groaned and wept so copiously in the temple over her inability to conceive a child with Elkanah that the priest Eli thought she was drunk. God in his mercy, blessed the couple with the great prophet Samuel after Hannah promised God to dedicate her son to the Lord if he answered her prayer. 

But God didn't just send one son. He blessed Elkanah and Hannah with three more sons and two daughters after Samuel, rewarding them for their generosity in dedicating their first born to Him and bringing him to the temple when he was three years old. They received the blessing of the barren woman of Psalm 113 who becomes the joyful mother of many children!

But our insane world hates children and sees them, as Scrooge did, as "surplus population." The elites don't like to see their popular tourist spots littered with all the hoi polloi. There are too many people. And so we have all kinds of inventive ways to eliminate them: abortion, contraception, COVID, vaccines laced with HCG, the pregnancy hormone, to make women miscarry their babies, etc. 

Yes, the world is insane. And it's increasing mental health issues and insanity, especially among the young. Living in a world of godless evil kills reason. When the innocent are bombarded with self-destructive sex ed, gender insanity, and a steady diet of lies, it hurts them. It contributes to mental illness and, yes, insanity!

Insanity is a tragedy, but not particularly problematic to a culture unless those who are sane embrace the insanity as normal and begin to spread it. And that is what's happening on a daily basis today.

One example.

When I arrived home from retreat, my husband informed me that we can no longer talk about "breast-feeding" or "breast milk." The initial move away from those terms actually happened over a year ago when a hospital in the U.K. adopted other terms more friendly to the trans/binary asylum inmates. Apparently, it's just now becoming mainstream. Here's what the New York Post wrote in February 2021:

The terms “breastfeeding” and “breast milk” should be swapped for more “gender-inclusive” phrases in prenatal units of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, the health care center said in a 19-page document cited by Sky News Wednesday.

Instead, health professionals were advised to use the phrases “breast/chest milk,” “milk from the feeding mother or parent” and “human milk” to be more “inclusive of trans & non-binary birthing people without excluding the language of women or motherhood,” the guidelines state.

Just think...19 pages of nonsense to launch the latest mind bending drivel of insanity. And how many institutions and medical staff will go along with it? What punishments will be levied against those who continue to use the old, now taboo, terms? 

We've seen what the pronoun police are doing in colleges and universities to punish recalcitrant professors. They are now preparing the scaffold for the latest wordcrime offenders. Hang, draw, and quarter them for offending the feelings of the delusional.

After five and half days of silence with no TV, no internet, no phone, no news, etc. I am experiencing a little shell shock. I consider it a just punishment for my own insane days when I rebelled against God. He was patient with me, and so I pray for poor sinners to come to their senses and return to Him.

One of my favorite saints is little Jacinta of Fatima. She had such a heart for sinners and wanted to keep them from falling into hell "like snowflakes" in a blizzard. Since all of us struggling to embrace the will of God have our own laundry list of past sins, praying for sinners to wake up like we did is a real act of mercy. 

I often use fairy tale lessons with my grandchildren (and myself). I want to be like Simpleton with the golden goose. People who saw the goose longed for just one golden feather, but when the farmer's daughter reached out to take one, she stuck fast to the goose. Her sister tried to detach her and she stuck fast as well. By the time Simpleton got to his destination, a long line of hangers-on followed, glued to the goose. 

Think of the golden goose as truth. It's beautiful and charming. It allures. People long for it. And when a person reaches out and touches the truth, he is likely to be "stuck fast." Others come in contact with the first person. Perhaps they try to detach and lure him away from the truth. Instead, they are likely to be stuck fast as well. 

One person sharing the beauty and glory of the truth can become the catalyst for an entire series of conversions about which he or she will never be aware. Think of the happy day of judgment when a perfect stranger says, "I was thirsty for the truth and you gave me a drink."

Let us love the truth, carry the truth with us boldly, share the truth, and lead others in the way of the truth. By the grace of God and the intercession of Mary, our guardian angel, and the saints it is a mission we can all perform. May we do it with zeal and charity.
