Still, the jury trial would end with a conviction in September 1994, and a sentence equivalent to a life term handed down by Judge Arthur Brennan. That would not be all. The state threatened a new prosecution on additional charges unless the priest pleaded guilty to those, in exchange for no added prison time. Without funds and unable to hire a new lawyer, already facing a crushing sentence and certain, given the climate in which he would face a second trial, that he could only be convicted, Father MacRae accepted the deal.
Does this sound familiar? If you read the cases of the January 6ers, you'll find numerous examples of guilty pleas wrested from innocent victims threatened with felony charges and lengthy jail terms unless they pled guilty to something, anything to justify the legal abuse they experienced. This is the reality of our unjust, lawfare, double standard system today: often the guilty are innocent and the innocent are guilty. No evidence? No problem! Use threats to get the guilty plea from an innocent victim. Ask General Michael Flynn who was set up by a corrupt FBI and a coercive plea-bargaining system. And then think of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Hunter Biden, and a host of politicos guilty of criminal acts including insider trading. Martha Stewart went to jail for following the advice of her financial advisor; Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress become millionaires as "public servants." How does that work exactly?
After my post, I received this message from Fr. MacRae which he gave me permission to publish:
A friend just read me your post: "Who's Telling the Truth?"
As I have no online access at all, a crippling condition in the field of justice, a friend is sending this for me. The "Attorney General's Report" of 2003 was the result of a Grand Jury Report. Under NH law Grand Jury Reports are to remain strictly confidential. This one was released because former Msgr Edward Arsnault forged the Bishop's signature on a Universal Release waving the rights of all the priests of the Diocese. The report by Dorothy Rabinowitz came two years later and was intended to be a rebuttal of the public report. Ryan MacDonald wrote the post linked here and it is a sobering reflection on the nature of these reports. I can best respond with a simple question. The State of New Hampshire, aided by SNAP and Bishop Accountability, and a phalanx of lurking contingency lawyers, constructed this report which ultimately resulted in some $40,000,000 dollars changing hands. So, my question: If the Attorney General believed all or any of this report to be true, why did the State of NH offer me a pre-trial plea deal to serve only one year in prison?
Double standard indeed! Father added the following in his email response giving me permission to publish his comments:Of interest, while that report was being constructed in 2003 the State of NH was subjected to hundreds of sex abuse claims from minors in the State's juvenile detention facilities. When the accused were State employees no Grand Jury Investigation took place. There are now currently 1,300 open lawsuits alleging sex abuse and cover up by State Officials in NH. Only one has gone to trial resulting in the award of $38,000,000 dollars which the State is contesting while suspending all further trials claiming that none of these claims are true. Double standard?
I have been told that it has "leaked out" that the Innocence Project is taking a hard look at my case for a possible new appeal, Even AI has warned of this. The momentum growing in that regard seems to be a deeply felt threat to the likes of SNAP, Bishop Accountability, and at least one "journalist." The latter refers to Damien Fisher, who writes at InDepthNH.org, an online news venue in New Hampshire. He attacks me at every turn raising the same points and questions that were raised to you. This also happened to Cardinal Pell each time he filed an appeal.
I much appreciate your willingness to see past the smoke and mirrors.
I'm beginning to think there is little justice this side of the grave. Man's capacity to persecute and demonize his fellow man seems unlimited. Why? Often for love of money, the root of all evils, but also for power or human respect, or to focus the spotlight on someone else to justify one's own faults and failures. And then there are those willing to step on and over someone while climbing the ladder to the top. "Hey, I'm not like that guy! I fast and tithe."
I'm curious about the identity of my blog commenter, but it doesn't really matter whether I ever learn who he is. God knows and every unjust act, every unjust accusation, will be resolved and justice restored at the Judgment. Jesus is the just judge. We will all face Him. May our hands, hearts, and minds be clean. May we be able to say with St. Paul, "I am not conscious of anything against me, but I do not thereby stand acquitted; the one who judges me is the Lord." Amen!
May Jesus Christ be praised!
I have been praying for Fr. McRae. Surely, God is watching over him .
