The measure failed on a vote of 137 to 83.  My own bishop Michael Burbidge said at the time "It did not get passed, not because we don't believe this is a very serious situation and it needs to be resolved, but because the proposal was merely encouraging the Holy See to do what they have promised to do and are doing. Put a curly red wig and a false nose on Anthony Fauci (Well, maybe he doesn't need the nose.) and you'll recognize him for the clown he is. If Trump had listened to Fauci's advice not to ban travel from China, the spread of the virus would likely be worse. As for the constant hand-wringing and gloom and doom, how exactly does that help?

Also, can we trust the data that's driving all this? Florida, for example, is a state showing a large surge in the virus. Is the data accurate? Well...not likely. As of July 14th, many labs were showing a 100% rate of positive tests. Everybody knows that's wrong but those are the numbers being reported. Hospitalizations and death rates tell more, but with the politicalization of the disease even that's questionable. It seemed in NYC that every death was attributed to the virus. What are the real statistics? Who knows?

How many good priests have been thrown under the bus? Their number is legion. In my own diocese (Arlington) Bishop Burbidge eliminated two priests who were removed from ministry with the assurance they would be reinstated after a time. One was forced into early retirement; the other remains in liturgical limbo. Both are good priests who deserved better (as did their flocks). I grieve for these betrayed priests both of whom I know personally.

On Saturday morning an FSSP parish in Florida (Queen of Peace in Ocala) was attacked by a man who ran his minivan into the building and then set it on fire while worshipers prepared for morning Mass. In California, Mission St. Gabriel was gutted by a four-alarm fire that's under investigation.

Did you see anything about these two events on the national news?

Imagine if a mosque or a meeting of Black Lives Matter was the target. We'd be hearing about it non-stop! "A hate crime!"

The lies told about St. Junipero Serra are legion. The man who played such a huge role in developing California was noted for being a kind and loving father. In fact, recognizing that violence was possible, he begged for clemency for the Indians and left a written request that if he were killed his murderers should be pardoned. He walked to Mexico at one point to meet with government officials interceding for policies to help the natives.

I didn't sleep very well on retreat. Having arrived with a basketful of stressers, like the possibility of my husband needing a replacement of his knee replacement (No longer a possibility, but a surety), the serious illness of a friend (She's back in the hospital), and some other issues (sigh),  I needed to make a serious effort to enter into the meditations. There was a reply from a young parishioner saying "You do realize that multiple hundreds of thousands of people have died from this right?" I responded saying, "You do realize there are 7 billion people on the planet and the global deaths are half a million similar to a bad flu season."  Then I went to Mass. Good grief, when I came home there were over 100 comments and the thread was so acrimonious (including a family feud) that  I went into my settings and blocked comments from anyone who is not a "friend."

How deep is evil? How far down does it go, i.e., the Deep State, the Deep (and gay) Church? And how evil is evil? The definition of evil is the destruction of innocence and goodness. When we see mobs destroy our country we're merely seeing, not the proverbial "tip of the iceberg", but the tip of the flame of Satan's evil advancing on our civilization. The mobs are just the spark, a minuscule tiny bit of the massive evil that lies underneath, soon to be unleashed upon us. 

There is no one but ourselves to protect us. The Church will not protect us because the bishops have all locked themselves into their mansions. If the mobs have their way, the police will not be there to protect us because they will be defunded and disbanded. Mark my words - Sharia law will be put in the place of the police. Folks, Satan is rolling into town, riding high, a smirk on his face, victorious over all who will soon be victims of his terrible and massive evil.
