Cardinal O’Malley: ‘If I were founding a Church, I’d love to have women priests’
Well, what did Jesus know?
Here's the recent O'Malley interview on 60 minutes:
Cardinal O'Malley is also highly critical of the CDF's (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) investigation of the LCWR (Leadership Conference of Women Religious) calling it "a disaster." Actually, the disaster is a bunch of women who have shunned the habit and the faith along with it to swallow a poisonous mixture of feminism, earth worship, and new age nonsense. (Read Ungodly Rage by Donna Steichen. Written in 1991, it's still timely and some of the same heretic nuns like Sr. Joan Chittister, are still around.)
O'Malley has also called for hammering Bishop Finn who delayed for five months reporting a priest (Shawn Ratigan) who had self-produced child pornography on his computer that indicated child abuse. Instead, Finn essentially put him under house arrest away from children serving a group of nuns. When he violated the terms of his confinement, the bishop voluntarily reported him to authorities, His fellow bishop, Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, pointed out some facts about the case the media have ignored.
But what's interesting about O'Malley's demand for Bishop Finn's head is that he has no problem with parishes in his diocese that promote active homosexuality and he also had no problem celebrating a near canonization of Ted Kennedy a man covered in the blood of MILLIONS of unborn babies. But, of course, you don't suffer the wrath of the media for that!
Read Archbishop Naumann's comments carefully. Many bishops today rush to judgment in condemning priests accused of child abuse. An accusation is a guilty verdict in many cases and the priests, even the innocent, are thrown under the bus. We live in a culture of the lie. Certainly there were many abusive priests, most of them homosexuals abusing adolescent boys. But that inconvenient fact has also been thrown under the bus because it is politically incorrect. All abuse accusations should be investigated and, if there is credible evidence, prosecuted. But we all have the right to be presumed innocent; even those accused of child abuse.
I just had an exchange with my wife on the two Cardinals (Dolan and O'Malley) and we must pray for them for they both seem to be walking on thin ice.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the interview and I thank you for posting it at your blog. All he had to do is make a strong statement that rested on the bedrock truth of Jesus Christ and His bride the Church, but the failed miserably at this teaching moment, and seemed to be showing his true stripes. "If I was starting a church"...what a stupid way to attempt to answer this key question.
He needs to issue a retraction.
Mike
Thanks for your comment. I agree -- yes, a retraction. But don't fast until he does unless you're prepared to meet your Maker. Dolan and O'Malley make me want to weep for Holy Mother Church. Where is the attitude of Jesus -- "Zeal for your house consumes me?"
ReplyDeleteZeal for public opinion and human respect seems to consume many of our bishops today. I weep for my grandchildren.
