This paper plate bowl was used as a Ciborium. Hosts were consecrated in it and Holy Communion distributed from it, then after Mass it was thrown in the garbage. Horrified, I fished it out of the trash and the next day took it to my pastor to burn, along with the bag and tissue paper I had put it in. THIS is what leftist liberal modernist priests do - those who no longer believe in the Real Presence, if they ever did at all, that is. THIS sacrilege and utterly disgusting actions of an out-of-state priest have sent me flying into the arms of the SSPX in order to escape the horror of having to see Christ treated in such a degrading and shameful manner. The Mass was not celebrated in a diocesan church, or any church at all, nevertheless, my pastor, to whom I supplied all the pertinent information, has said that he will report it to the bishop. So we shall see. I did speak to the errant priest about this, although I did not tell him I had taken the "Ciborium" out of the trash.

But hospitals, under the CARES ACT, were paid a 20% bonus for all so-called covid deaths, over 130,000 due to other causes.

• Coming back from Florida makes the cold seem colder, and I
loved my short getaway in the Sunshine State visiting my blog partner Susan. But I could never move to Florida; I love the changing seasons too much. Right now it's snowing again and is so beautiful. The birds are busy at the feeders. The cardinals in the snowy branches of the trees paint a splash of color against the gray day and the white snow. (My son in Texas probably wants to wash my mouth out with soap about now, although he posted on Facebook that they needed to use the air conditioner in the car today. Go figure!) I can admire the lovely snowfall this morning because the temperatures are on the rise and it's supposed to change to rain with sunshine later in the day. By Wednesday the thermostat prediction is the 60s. February is definitely a changeling!

My son lives in a northern suburb of Austin, TX. We just talked to him tonight and he is doing better than many in the state. Things are getting back to normal for them despite living through what my son described as "the worst week of my life." They had no heat (ran out of propane), so he, his wife, and six kids still at home hunkered down in the parents' bedroom with an intermittently working space heater subject to the rolling blackouts. With the house down to 50 degrees or so, they bundled up and ate soup made in the crockpot while the electricity was on.

It's Ash Wednesday. Do You know Where Your Ashes Are?

 We do.

There were two priests distributing ashes. We would have liked to have had them placed on our foreheads by the priest who drew beautiful great black crosses on each person's forehead but at least the priests were TOUCHING the people with their own thumb and not Q-tips. There were no rubber gloves, no masks, no Q-tips, no social distancing, no ashes sprinkled in anyone's hair and, thankfully, no silly Repertoire of Safety rules. There was holy water, reverence, respect for Our Lord both by the people and the priests and there were 10 (?) altar BOYS.

Note the words "ON THE FOREHEADS". It's becoming ridiculous that the customs of other cultures are to be respected (Pachamama) while our customs more and more are to be ignored.

Topsy and Tuptim have escaped snow and ice in the north to enjoy a Winter holiday at a Florida wildlife preserve. Neither of them sleeps very well in a hotel and are bemoaning the bad dreams they had last night.

Topsy: I had such bad dreams last night and got so little sleep and had a terrible nightmare. I kept waking up screaming, "No God! No!! No-o-o. Pleeeease!" ...Didn't you hear me?

Tuptim: That was you? I thought it was me. I had nightmares too. What was your dream?

Topsy: I was following an alligator into his underwater den. Then everything got really crazy. It looked like an ugly modernist chapel.

Tuptim: Oh my gosh! That was my dream too except I was being chased by the alligator!

Topsy: Did you end up in a chapel? 

Tuptim: Yes!

Topsy: What did it look like?

Tuptim: I couldn't figure out whether I was in Orlando or LA. It reminded me of the West Coast Religious Ed Conference with a table and dancing girls and everything was purple! It was Ash Wednesday and it was so weird.

Topsy: And Cardinal Cupich was the celebrant? (Tuptim nods vigorously.)

Tuptim: And Father James Martin was the Master of Ceremonies. He was wearing a purple chasuble...

Sunday Meditation: Are You Ready for Lent?

 Lent begins on Wednesday. Am I ready? I’m reading a chapter from the Imitation of Christ every morning and it’s humbling to find how often it is acutely relevant to the season. This morning I read: “I will speak to You, Lord Jesus, ‘though I am but dust and ashes (Gen 18:27),.’ If I think myself any better, You stand opposed to me, and what is more, my own sins bear witness against me. This evidence I cannot deny. But if I humble myself, admit my insignificance, rid myself of all self-esteem, and regard myself as the mere dust that I am, then Your grace will come to me and the light of Your understanding enter into my heart; so that, through perfect knowledge of my wretchedness, all self-esteem will be lost in the depths of my nothingness.”

Wow! How appropriate as I prepare to begin the Lenten journey!

What a message to a person living in a culture where self-esteem is an idol, where everyone expects a trophy for participation and an A+ for writing his name at the top of the test. What a reality check!

Before God we are nothing.....but then — HE DIED OUT OF LOVE FOR US!

When I think of my sins, especially those of ingratitude and presumption, I want to call on the mountains to fall on me and hide me (Luke 23:30) like Adam hiding in the garden after he sinned. How can I sin against God Who loves me so much? How can I not run to Him and fall on my knees in awe and gratitude?

So how will I begin this Lent? Trying to see myself in the light of Christ? 

Who are You, Lord? And who am I as I kneel before you? In fear and trembling I beg You to show me the state of my soul that I might repent of every sin and fault and be transformed by your grace. Help me get ready to make Lent in a way that opens the door of my heart to let You in.

The protest at the Capitol was like the Rwandan genocide when over a million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were slaughtered, many with machetes, while the government called them deplorables cockroaches? What a racist statement to compare the skedaddle of mostly white legislators to the massacre of millions of black Africans. Just goes to show who the real racists are.

All of these comparison should make any American with even a little knowledge of history want to vomit.    As for those who lost loved ones in these events, I can’t imagine how this makes them feel.

Plus, with salt and pepper shakers, priests, deacons and whoever else is dispensing ashes on top of our heads in our hair wouldn't have to dirty their hands with actual ashes at all. Holy Ash Hair Shakers could be manufactured then sold in Catholic religious articles shops across the world. Just think of the millions, possibly billions, the Vatican could make on this one. Holy Water and Holy Water bottles out, Holy Ash Hair Shakers in.

My sister is in a nursing home in Maryland. At one point she tested positive for the Wuhan virus and was moved to the COVID unit for about two weeks. She never had any symptoms, and I have my doubts she really had the virus. She has COPD, diabetes, is very overweight and is on oxygen. But I also convinced her to take Vitamin D and Vitamin C since most deaths occur in patients with very low levels of Vitamin D. So if she did have it, she was protected.
