While Rioters Loot and Beat Up and Even Kill, Police in NY Arrest Two Pro-Life Woman Over Social Distancing!

But hey, they were outside a Planned Parenthood killing business violating "social distancing" -- you know -- one of the "essential" places. Gotta keep killing those black babies even during the pandemic.  And it's lots more important (not to mention safer) to arrest a couple of peaceful pro-life  unarmed domestic terrorist women than to face the looters and rioters shooting, torching police cars, and throwing bricks at cops. "Come along, ladies."

Funny isn't it? Somehow no one thinks of rioting or saying "black lives matter" when it comes to PP's genocide of black babies!

Candace Owen Tells the Truth about George Floyd: His Killing was Wrong, But He Was a Serial Criminal!

So stop turning the guy into a hero. She makes the point that the black community is the only ethnic group that holds up the worst element as heroes and martyrs. George Floyd was a serial criminal. One of his most heinous acts was to participate in a home invasion where he held a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach and then helped ransack her home. How many people will watch this video and listen to Candace Owen. "George Floyd was a criminal" and she will not play a part in the "broken black culture that always wants to martyr criminals." Her video is no defense of the white officer's actions, but as she points out, no one in the white community (or any other) is holding him up as a hero. They are, however, canonizing Floyd and committing further criminal acts in him name. In view of his history, their actions model their "hero." I applaud Candace Owen for her courage. She will no doubt be a target because of speaking the truth!

Fr. Tom Collins' Observations on the Behavior of our Catholic Bishops

Editor's Question: While reading Fr. Tom's letter to the Catholic Virginian, the Richmond diocese's newspaper, I recalled Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz's observation during the bishops' 2002 Dallas meeting after our shepherds excused themselves from the sex abuse charter. He described them as "This hapless bench of bishops." Nothing much has changed in the past twenty years.

An Important Message from Archbishop Vigano to the People of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.

Former U.S. Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, Issues Urgent Warning to Priests and Faithful of the Diocese of Washington

Written by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò

Editor's comment: False Shepherd Wilton Gregory, walks in the footsteps of his predecessors, McCarrick and Wuerl. Wake up, Catholics. Don't follow these hirelings. Gregory was identified by Dr. Richard Sipe as a homosexual. He can't be trusted?

Another Crisis Not to Be Wasted: The Violent Demonstrations are Organized and Orchestrated!

It's organized, deliberate anarchy, folks.

The irony of this is that many of the stores being looted and torched (Think StarbucksTargetGucci) are firm advocates of liberalism: pro-radical feminism, pro-LGBTQ extremism, pro-abortion, hatred for conservatives. they're being hoisted on their own petard as the saying goes. Ironic ain't it?

The Wages of Pandemic Panic Are Death! And That's a Fact.

Be scared, be very scared or
 the pandemic will get you!
I recently subscribed to the Epoch Times. I'm a puzzle lover and it has a great puzzle page, but that's not why I subscribed.

After watching some of their ads and checking out their website I decided it was a paper worth reading (unlike the Washington Post, the New York Times, and, sadly, even the Wall Street Journal).

Here's an article I read this morning from the May 21st issue that puts the "pandemic panic" in perspective.

I'm not sure you can read the article without a subscription so I'll provide some highlights. First this:

Sunday Meditation: Unintended Consequences? Or Opportunities from the Holy Spirit on Pentecost and Every Day!

From the perspective of Big Government, a crisis may be a "terrible thing to waste" and the coronavirus certainly offers a great opportunity for tyrannical bureaucrats as we've seen; but there are unintended consequences in the wind that are more promising. Big Brother may be surprised at what he's unleashed. At, Bill Sardi writes about the flip side of the virus:

Contact Tracing: Is it Really about COVID-19 or about Control? What's Coming is Downright Scary!

Contact tracers are being hired and trained right now in states around the country. The power to control the lives of Americans, force quarantines against healthy people, and force vaccination is being put in place. Is this really about COVID-19 or is it about global control of the population? Ironically, I doubt it will stop things like the Minneapolis riots, but it will take law-abiding citizens and criminalize their refusal to cooperate with Big Brother control of their movements. Maybe it's time to leave the smart phones at home as much as possible! Or leave them in the car when you are visiting people.

The Coronavirus Death Toll No One is Talking About

Social isolation is not the normal condition for human beings.

Lots of Opinions on Coronavirus: Who's Right? Who Knows?

Someone posted a comment on Wednesday's post about an aerosol scientist who thinks COVID-19 can be airborne for miles and that's why it's so contagious and spreads so rapidly. She thinks people should be more vigilant about wearing masks and that's what she does even outside. (She is clearly expressing an opinion; there are no studies confirming it.)

Dr. Russell Blaylock, on the other hand, believes face masks are dangerous, can reduce your immune response and can concentrate any virus load a person is carrying so he can infect himself. He thinks masks for the healthy are contraindicated and can be down right life-threatening for some. His article cites a dozen studies plus one of his own.

Thoughts for Thursday! On COVID 19, Masks, and Camp Kreitzer

Who is that masked man and why doesn't he
practice proper socially distancing?
  • My husband and I start the morning each day with Mass. Only nine pews aren't blocked off in the entire church. Several people come in masked, but most of those who wear masks only put them on once Mass begins. I find that puzzling. Does the virus start flying around the church with the angels once Father rings the bell to announce the start of Mass? Is there no danger of contracting the virus or passing it along before Mass begins? Really...I'm just trying to figure out the logic. No one is closer than eight or ten feet except family groups and most in the church are more like 20 feet apart. Are people really masking because of the virus, or is something else going on?  (Read more...)

Listen Up, Virginia: To Mask or not to Mask! It's Up to You.

Now that's a store keeper with common sense!
Let's put similar note on church doors.
The photo on the right is making the rounds on Facebook. Governor Janet Mills is the tyrant in Maine whose draconian policies make absolutely no sense, especially in parts of the state that have very few COVID-19 cases (not to mention very few people!). The store owner posted this sign essentially making the premises a shame-free safe zone. If you want to wear a mask, wear a mask. If you have a condition (respiratory, anxiety, etc.) that makes wearing a mask inadvisable, don't wear one.

Virginia Governor Northam just mandated (starting Friday) a draconian order requiring masks in essentially every business in the commonwealth, including restaurants where you may only remove the mask while eating. Think about that. Take off your mask, take a sip of water, put on your mask, take off your mask, take a bite of food, put on your mask. If you pause for conversation you better have that mask on! Oh...and don't forget...every time you touch the mask you need to sanitize your don't forget to have the bottle right there and use it throughout dinner.

End the Lockdown: "If We Can Save Even One Life...."

UPDATE: 500 Doctors Write To Trump Warning Lockdown Will Cause More Deaths
Lockdowns kill people just as surely as the coronavirus!
We've listened to the unceasing mantra for months now justifying the country-wide lockdown and economic devastation. "If we can save even one life...!"

Governor Northam Illustrates How He Ignores the Rules He Makes for the Rest of Us!

Governor Northam visited Virginia Beach over the weekend and demonstrated how seriously he follows his own rules.  But, hey, it was a great photo op and he couldn't help it if his fans wanted close up contact (social distancing be damned!) and no-mask selfies! Now let's see if he tries to mandate masks for all of the rest of us tomorrow. Why wasn't he cited by all those cops in his retinue?

Reflecting on Stupidity! Are we still "the land of the free and the home of the brave?"

"The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." Albert Einstein

"The perverse are hard to be corrected, and the number of fools is infinite." Ecclesiastes 1:15

I've always loved the description of the United States in the National Anthem: "The land of the free and the home of the brave." These days, however, it seems we live in the land of the lockdown and the home of the stupid.

Are you eagerly waiting for the COVID-19 vaccine?

Are you jostling to be first in line?

Maybe you should rethink that!

CATASTROPHE: 20% of Human Test Subjects Severely Injured from Gates-Fauci Coronavirus Vaccine by Moderna

The human guinea pig study involved only 15 subjects and they were all very healthy. Not only did 1/5th (3) experience serious adverse affects, but only eight (about half) showed positive antibodies.

Leading Epidemiologist Knut M. Wittkowski Describes the Disaster of the Current Policy toward COVID-19

Dr. Knut Wittkowski
Dr. Wittkowski's video interview about COVID-19 was censored by YouTube and taken down. Fortunately, it's still available at the American Institute for Economic Research and you can watch it there. The full 45 minute interview is fascinating.

Wittkowski says the lockdown keeping people indoors guarantees that the virus will remain "out there....Going outdoors is what stops every respiratory disease." And yet people are banned from parks and not allowed on the beach.

How Do You Treat Holy Things? Are Sacramentals a Prop for a Comic Strip?

I got into a discussion on my parish's Facebook page over the Michigan priest who used a squirt gun to "bless" his parishioners. Someone posted the picture praising what the priest did. "Way to go, Father," one lady wrote.

If you're concerned about COVID-19 watch this!

UPDATE: The president announced yesterday that he's taking hydroxychloroquine and zinc as a preventive measure against the virus. See his doctor's statement below. Thank you, President Trump! It will be hard for doctors to refuse this treatment now to patients with early symptoms who ask their doctors for it.

Happy Birthday to my Husband of 50 Years (51 in October)!

I'm taking the day off to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday, and here's a message to him from some young boys of our own generation! I'm happy to say that we can go to Mass to begin the celebration! It was the best birthday gift of all! Thank you, Jesus!

Guest Post: A Walk in the Woods with John Denver by Lise Baur

I took a walk in the woods recently on a rainy but warm day, one of those bad days, (Aren’t we all having them cooped up in our homes for months?) I took my dog, Chessie, a sweet chocolate lab and we headed out to Wheaton Park in Silver Spring, MD.

We have our favorite loop, about three miles. As I started out, I didn't feel like being in the rain, but then my eyes caught the bright Spring green of new leaves on the trees. Beautiful and serene, it lifted my spirits. The only sound was the rain rushing through the leaves to the ground. I suddenly thought of Annie’s Song by John Denver. I took out my phone, found the song online, and listened. I couldn’t help but sing out loud, maybe a little too loud, but heck, I was the only one there!

May 14th Red Rose Rescues at Capital Women's Center and Surgi-Clinic in our Nation's Capital!

Surgi-Clinic will kill babies seven weeks older
than this fully developed little one! Think about it!
The videos below were recorded at two Red Rose Rescues on Thursday, May 14th. The first was taken at Capital Women's Center on Georgia Ave. where at least one woman changed her mind and chose life for her baby.

The second video is from the Surgi-Clinic killing center which "terminates" pregnancies (murders babies) up to 27 weeks.

We've Known Contraceptives are Poison for Decades! It's about time women were warned.

‘Petition on Hormonal Contraceptives’: The Real Effects of Hormonal Birth Control

Think about it. The pill was developed in the 1960s and sold to women as safe-safe-safe while they died from it. Then scientists lowered the effectiveness by reducing the hormones to reduce the risk and offered women abortion to take care of "mistakes." Talk about a double whammy! Take cancer causing hormones and then increase your risk of breast cancer by aborting a pregnancy.

A Tired Old Rescuer Returns Once Again to the Field of Battle

The "Rescue Rosary"
This morning I participated as a supporter/sidewalk counselor at a Red Rose Rescue in Washington, D.C. (See the press release.) Three people, including a Catholic priest, Fr. Fidelis Moscinski CFR, entered the Capitol Women's Services (CWS) abortuary on Georgia Ave. to talk to the women and offer them red roses and help. Another group also accompanied by a priest, Fr. Stephen Imbarrato,  entered an abortuary elsewhere in the city. Both groups shut down abortions for several hours. At least one woman left the Georgia Ave. site carrying a red rose.

Press Release on Two Red Rose Rescues in Washington, D.C. Today!

For release: Contact: Larry Cirignano 202-306-6863

This morning several members of the peaceful and prayerful Red Rose Rescue ministry, including 2 Catholic priests, entered the multi unit buildings housing 2 late term abortion facilities in Washington DC in the hope of saving babies from abortion by witnessing to the moms in crisis. The two DC facilities are Capital Women’s Services located at 6323Georgia Ave NW Suite 210 ( allegedly owned by disgraced abortionist Steven Brigham ( and Washington SurgiClinic located at 2112 F St NW Suite 400 ( owned and operated by Cesare Santangelo who has been exposed of serious practice violations including the death of a woman during an abortion. Nasty Parish Director of Operations Demands I Leave the Church

One of Hitler's monstrous furies
Catholic Parish Director of Operations
The nasty parish Director of Operations (DO), a dictatorial woman possessing new-found power, strutting around brandishing her tongue like a whip, demanded that I leave the just open church because evidently I was lethally radio-active with Coronavirus germs, which, as I was sitting praying, gleefully leaped off my infectious body and flew around in the air looking for victims to land on, infect and kill.

From what I can vaguely remember this woman from up North somewhere was hired a few years ago by the Diocese to be the Director of Operations of our parish since apparently no one in the state of Florida was qualified to have that job because all of us backwater Southern hicks are just too stupid.

Churches in Florida have been locked up airtight since March 20th per the draconian orders of Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami so that the filthy disease carrying sheep have not been allowed into the very "sanctuaries that they built and paid for, by the people whose salaries they pay."

Fatima and the World on this 103rd anniversary of Mary's First Apparition!

On the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, Let Us Pray the Chaplet of Adoration and Reparation.

The Chaplet of Adoration and Reparation uses the prayers of the Angel of Peace who appeared to the three little shepherd children before the Blessed Mother's first apparition on May 13th.

There are several different chaplets using different beads but this uses the ordinary five decade rosary. I'll be praying it often today in honor of Our Lady of Fatima and in reparation for sins against her Immaculate Heart.

Yikes! I actually agree with Bill Maher about something....

And this segment about the immune system is totally on target. The best defense against any virus is a strong immune system!

Signs of a Bad Bishop? He Treats Jesus Like a Frisbee and Denies that Mass is about "Worshiping Jesus."

This cartoon illustrates Bishop Richard Stika's instruction on how his flock must receive Communion. No Communion on the tongue and if any of you self-righteous, overly pious Catholics dare to defy his non-canonical order, you will be ejected into the outer darkness. (Hat tip to Mundabor.) Really! He will ban from the Church indefinitely anyone who dares to quibble with his order!

Random Thoughts for Monday Morning

  • How many deaths are happening, not because of the virus, but because of the lockdown? Joseph Ferrara is one. Read about it and weep. This 96-year-old died because he lost the advocacy of his family. How many other vulnerable elderly met (and are meeting) the same fate?
Joseph Ferrara, Requiescat in Pace

Have you thanked your mother?

Happy Mothers' Day, Blessed Mother
Mother's Day has its roots in ancient Greece and Rome as so many of our holidays do. Pagan
societies celebrated their maternal goddesses during the spring as the buds swelled with new life. Holy Mother Church, knowing that you can't replace something with nothing, tended throughout history to sacramentalize the natural by replacing pagan feasts with holy days. So the date for Christmas was chosen to replace the winter solstice celebrations with welcoming the birth of Christ. In the 13th century the Church did the same thing with the month of May when they named it Mary's month. There is something particularly appropriate about honoring our natural mothers during the month dedicated to our Blessed Mother.

URGENT! H.R. 6666 - The COVID 19 Testing, Reaching, and Contacting Everyone (TRACE) Act

Cuomo killed thousands of vulnerable elderly by requiring nursing homes to take in infected residents. Does he really have citizens' interests at heart? He didn't care a whit about them. It's all about power and control and he's hiring himself an army to expand state power.
Editor's note: Forty members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bill on May 1st that is truly alarming - and not just because of its number - 6666. It's called the “COVID–19 Testing, Reaching, And Contacting Everyone (TRACE) Act.” The title alone is alarming!

Thoughts on the Pandemic from Lew Rockwell: Of "Criminal Manipulators" and "Pathetic Ignoramuses"

Can you find the conspiracy nut in that pile!
Someone commenting about the Sarah/Vigano fight on another blog dismissed the archbishop as a conspiracy nut with all the talk about the virus being used to move us toward one-world government.

Sorry Charlie, but that's exactly what's happening and the pandemic panic is the perfect vehicle to take many giant steps toward that goal. An article at Lew Rockwell this morning puts it in stark perspective:

Honesty Counts: Cardinal Sarah and the Withdrawal of His Signature from the Appeal

Cardinal Robert Sarah
What a sad state of affairs. If you read my post earlier today, you know about the Vigano letter/petition, APPEAL FOR THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD to Catholics and all people of good will.

Among the several dozen original signers was Cardinal Robert Sarah. But after the letter was published, he denied signing it which led to a letter of fraternal correction from Archbishop Vigano.

URGENT! APPEAL FOR THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD to Catholics and all people of good will

Editor's Note: I've highlighted some important points in red in the bishops' letter below. I'm grateful that at least a few of our shepherds are alert to what's going on.

Fr. Tom on Catholic Liberal Logic 101 (Hat Tip to Jonathan Swift)

If pro-aborts thought of babies as puppies, would they protect them?
Editor's note: I used to sidewalk counsel at an abortuary in Falls Church where one of the deathscorts was a gay retired postman named Jim. (Not a Catholic) Jim had a dog named Pumpkin. When Pumpkin got sick and was at the vet's, they had no employees overnight. Pumpkin died alone during the night. Jim fought to get legislation to require vets to have their clinics staffed at night. I asked him to think of the poor babies as puppies.

Terri Schindler, a Retrospective -- The Murder of the Innocent and Vulnerable Continues!

A pro-life colleague called me last night to pick my brain about the Terri Schindler Schiavo euthanasia murder of fifteen years ago. We both travelled to Florida at the time to participate in a press conference outside the nursing home where Michael Schiavo had Terri under police guard to make sure no one gave her a sip of water or a bite of food. Like the infants left on the hillside to perish in ancient Rome, Terri too had to die -- burning up like the Christians Nero covered in pitch and lit on fire to illuminate his garden.  And local authorities would ensure no rescuers, including Terri's parents and siblings, could intervene. The horror included Michael, Terri's husband, and his paramour covering Terri in blankets to increase her dehydration.

Watch a Traditional Latin Mass Altar Boy in Training

This video was created by two brothers who are among eight youth running a website called Deus Vult (God Wills), a "blog by and for young Catholics." The cameraman is eighteen and the "acolyte in training" is his 15-year-old brother. They live on a farm as you no doubt figured out when the cow came over to check out the visitor to his field. They attend an FSSP parish. Spend five minutes on the website and you will experience great hope for the future and a sense of absolute delight.

Monday Morning: A Reflection on How We Celebrate the "Lord's Day"

St. John Bosco where we pray our virtual Mass.
Sundays in this crazy time, shine as beautiful days of prayer, family, and rest. They always were, but now, in the midst of the insanity of COVID 19, we're blessed to be immersed in the reality of "the Lord's day"  It truly belongs to Him. Our "ordinary" Sunday now looks like this.

Fr. Tom Collins: The Politically Incorrect Observations of a Warrior Priest

Editor's comment: Much evil occurs within the Church from promotion of a false notion of "social justice" that has nothing to do with the doctrine taught by Christ or His Church. Fr. Collins points that out specifically in his observations. God bless him for his willingness to speak the truth. We feel blessed to call him friend!

Red Rose Rescues Save Lives and Souls!

Visit the RRR Facebook page and please pray for those on the front lines saving babies
from death and their moms from a lifetime of sorrow and regret.
Rescues, sidewalk counseling, and pro-life help centers all save lives. I can tell you that for sure because I've done all three. I have a poster with photos of babies saved by both rescues and sidewalk counseling and at the pregnancy center many women brought in their precious babies to show them off and say thank you.

Get to Know St. Athanasius, Defender of Christ's Divinity, on his Feast Day!

St. Athanasius is definitely a saint for our time when orthodoxy is so often persecuted and heterodoxy occupies the highest levels of the Church.

Just a little bit of humor for today...

Ya Just Gotta Shake Your Head! The Demon Swedes are Now "Future Models!"

A month ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) demonized Sweden because, instead of locking down and destroying their economy, they exercised modest restraints and urged their citizens to take personal responsibility. The sick and vulnerable were warned to stay home; the young and healthy were encouraged to practice common sense distancing. Omigosh! The world was coming to an end! Sweden would experience Armageddon, not to mention the invasion of the body snatchers.

Cooking the Books and Falsifying the Death Count for COVID 19! Why?

Dr. Annie Bukacek
We all know coronavirus is no joke. It's a serious illness that is particularly devastating to those vulnerable individuals who are elderly and have underlying health problems. Does that justify padding the death numbers and attributing every death, even when the cause is unknown, to COVID 19? And why is that happening? Has it been done with other diseases in the past? Who benefits from exaggerating and magnifying the number of deaths?

Are We Warriors for Christ Like St. Pius V?

Today is the feast of St. Pius V, the pope who saved the West from Islam. Had he not raised the Holy League under the leadership of Don John of Austria, today we would all likely be answering the Muslim call to prayer instead of responding to the bells of our local churches to come and worship Jesus Christ.

Facts and Questions about the COVID 19 Crisis: Will the Outcome be Worse than the Disease?

Is this you, looking at our dystopian society?
Do you feel like you're living in a dystopian novel? Do you wonder what the end game really is? Do the censorship and attacks on medical people who deviate from the official narrative concern you? What do you think the economic impact will be for the country as we go forward? Do all the unintended consequences of the lockdown worry you? Are you curious about why politicians are telling the medical profession how to treat a disease? Lots of questions! I'm sure you have some of your own.

Guest Post: Meet me in St. Louis, Dr. Hitchcock by Dexter Duggan

From the evil one's lips to Dr Hitchcock's ears?
"Hey man, you're good. Don't embarrass
yourself by admitting you goofed! Think
about your reputation as a historian!"
Editor's comment: What responsibility does a Catholic have to correct slanderous comments about others -- especially when they are public and published? The damage is ongoing. Every person led to believe the false and damaging information is scandalized. And to the degree that they promote and spread the slander, the culpability of the instigator is magnified.

I've been following my friend and colleague Dexter Duggan's story on his battle to restore his reputation for several years. I share his distress over Dr. Hitchcock's slander. As a former admirer of both Dr. Hitchcock and his wife, Helen Hull Hitchcock, I find it all most distressing...and, frankly, shocking.

In the beginning, one could give Dr. Hitchcock the benefit of the doubt that his inaccuracies were "mistakes." But something more malicious enters the picture when one refuses to budge from errors and falsehoods and, instead, doubles down on them which Dr. Hitchcock continues to do.

At this point, he appears to be guilty of calumny against Dexter Duggan and that is a serious sin against the 8th Commandment. It brings to mind the story of St. Jean Vianney who told a woman who confessed gossiping to go empty a feather pillow on the hillside and then come back for absolution. When she did, he told her to go gather the feathers up again. "Impossible!" she replied. The saint replied that it was also impossible to undo the damage she did with her tongue. Dr. Hitchcock, please take that story to heart and do what you can to undo the damage you did to Dexter and his reputation with your pen and your keyboard!

Please, readers, pray for both Dr. Hitchcock and my friend Dexter. We will all stand before the Judgment Seat of God. Better to be humiliated here by acknowledging shoddy work than to stand before God in prideful unrepentance!
Errant Missouri historian, EWTN, and London publisher never say, ‘Sorry’
Meet me in St. Louis, Dr. Hitchcock

By Dexter Duggan, writer for The Wanderer

As veteran pro-life activist Fr. Frank Pavone joined with tens of thousands of others to march down San Francisco’s Market Street for the annual Walk for Life West Coast in January 2017, people recognized him and came right up to shake hands, take pictures, and congratulate his work. I walked alongside Pavone that day, doing an interview as part of my story on the event for The Wanderer (, the oldest weekly national Catholic paper in the U.S., founded in 1867.

As national director of Priests for Life, Pavone had become a familiar face over the decades for his part in pro-life leadership. He had just flown in to San Francisco after attending the January 20, 2017, inauguration of new President Donald Trump and was very hopeful of Trump’s aiding the pro-life cause. Pavone told me then that Trump“is completely in our corner on issues that matter the most, and that he’s a man who follows through on what needs to be done.”

The previous year, during the presidential campaign, I did an interview with Pavone for The Wanderer dated for June 23, 2016, headlined, “Fr. Pavone Says Trump Speech ‘Crystal Clear’ Supporting Life, Religious Liberty.” Many pro-lifers still were looking to choose a candidate. The New York-born Pavone liked what he saw up close about Trump.

Dexter with Cardinal Burke
in October 2019
Pavone is a longtime friend to The Wanderer and says that reading its strong advocacy for unborn babies nourished his vocation to the priesthood and to pro-life leadership. Other prominent supporters of The Wanderer include Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke and Judge Andrew Napolitano.

Just around the time Pavone marched in San Francisco, a new book that claimed to stand up for the pro-life cause was hitting the shelves that entirely ignored Pavone but found space to bring in topics like the Spanish American War and Prohibition, events long before the U.S. Supreme Court handed down Roe vs. Wade, in 1973.

While Pavone placed great hope in Trump, this new book, published late in 2016, firmly proclaimed that the election of either Republican Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton as president would mean the end of the pro-life movement. The book brusquely called Trump a “bizarre threat.”

The book’s index doesn’t mention Pavone at all, although I’m listed on 20 pages. Huh? I’m that much more important than Pavone? Even commentator Norman Podhoretz, Cambodian mass murderer Pol Pot and Prohibition get a reference. I’m on twice as many pages as Planned Parenthood, which gets 10.

The book’s misleadingly broad title was Abortion, Religious Freedom, and Catholic Politics. It was written by elder Missouri historian James Hitchcock, Ph.D. One of its major targets was The Wanderer, whose “Catholic underground,” Hitchcock cried, was guilty of “conspiracy theories, old religious and ethnic grudges, economic ignorance, resentment, and alienation from the entire modern world,” etc., etc.

The book personally attacked me repeatedly as a writer for The Wanderer with outright falsehoods and seriously misleading statements. Hitchcock for years had a bee in his bonnet against The Wanderer that he clung to stubbornly.

Amazingly, his remarkable errors escaped serious editing, and the book came out from Transaction Publishers, at Rutgers University, in New Jersey. (Did you know that Justice Elena Kagan is a Catholic member of the U.S. Supreme Court? Hitchcock says so.) Shortly thereafter, the major international publisher Taylor & Francis, headquartered in London, acquired the Transaction firm and issued the shoddy book under its own Routledge imprint, whose hard cover edition sold to universities for around $100 a copy.

Before long, the powerful “global Catholic network,” EWTN, was interviewing Hitchcock and telling its audience members that they could contact EWTN directly to order the book.

Also amazingly, neither Taylor & Francis, EWTN nor anyone else in a responsible position has ever made any apology for abetting Hitchcock’s defamation or publicly called on him, so far as I’ve ever heard, to make needed corrections. Nor did the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis, for which he had worked.

Despite more than three years of the pro-life Trump presidency, Hitchcock never has apologized for his misjudgment. Nor has he retracted any of his embarrassing errors repeatedly called to his attention since mid-2017. Asked to account for them, he stubbornly remained silent, not acknowledging his mistakes, much less defending them. As this is written in late April 2020, Hitchcock recently was untruthful again about what was on the record.

Like many others, I had admired Hitchcock as a scholar, even before we both were contributing editors at the National Catholic Register in the early 1980s. That is, until I discovered in 2017 that he, without offering any evidence, defamed my good reputation as a lifelong pro-lifer. If he couldn’t find facts he wanted, he made them up.

I’ve written before about his assaults. To readers new to this scandal, I’ll repeat a few before getting to the latest news.

Hitchcock, a veteran professor at two Catholic institutions, St.
Dr. James Hitchcock
Louis University and the St. Louis archdiocesan Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, inexplicably charged me with believing that “fanatically pro-abortion” U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater was “worthy of unqualified support.” Does not the Catholic Hitchcock understand he is saying that I, a practicing Catholic, am on the road to Hell unless I repent? Yet he never has offered the slightest evidence for this defamation, not even in the years since the book was published and I said to prove it.

In March 2020 I challenged him to meet me on a debate stage in his St. Louis home town, however his health allows. No response yet. Two years ago, he told his friend Christopher Manion, Ph.D., that he had been “very busy,” but he intended to reply to Manion’s and my criticisms. However, he never did.

Hitchcock falsely wrote that I didn’t care for “Reagan Democrats,” and that I was among those trying “to persuade pro-lifers to transcend their narrow outlook and support a wider agenda.” He never offered any evidence for this, just empty accusations.

He repeatedly put the words of other plainly identified people in my mouth to make me look bad, and even twisted them, such as taking a comment by a black activist in 2015 who said that he thought blacks “are moving toward Donald Trump.” Hitchcock instead claimed that I, Duggan, said blacks “would flock to Trump’s banner.” So now, in my supposedly pro-abortionist Trump fervor, I not only presume to speak for blacks, but also attribute even more eagerness for them to go dashing toward Trump than the black activist himself suggested.

When I covered an official Arizona Republican county meeting where a pro-abortion extremist Democrat was criticized, Hitchcock instead claimed that I covered a meeting of people who looked down their noses at pro-lifers and “were ecstatic” over a “newly elected” pro-abortion Republican whose election hadn’t even been held yet.

In a different story, I noted a range of political gossip over Sen. John McCain inviting potential vice-presidential running mates to his ranch before the GOP convention in 2008. I wrote: “Conservatives could ponder whether a dedicated conservative activist and pro-lifer like (Louisiana Gov. Bobby) Jindal could enhance the ticket by influencing McCain to the right, or only be used as the Arizona senator’s yes-man to lure conservative voters to elect an administration dedicated to undermining their cause.”

Yet what did Hitchcock claim I wrote? This: “Duggan (June 5 [2008]) asked whether, if McCain picked a pro-life running mate, it would only be ‘to lure conservative voters to elect an administration dedicated to undermining their cause’.” Hitchcock simply threw away the part of the sentence that disproved his claim. How low can ya go? Well, as low as when Hitchcock took the words of a man likening McCain to “a mad scientist” and instead claimed that was my own remark.

Now for the latest disappointing news I’m aware of, which occurred just last month, in March 2020.

A woman I know, and who had met Hitchcock years ago, asked him by email on March 12 for “the TRUTH” about the book situation. Hitchcock replied by email on March 19: “Dexter Duggan, whom I have never met, says that I misrepresented him. But he does not say exactly how. He also says that I have discredited myself. If that is true (it is not) what more does he want?”

I never claimed to have met Hitchcock, but I spoke with him on the phone at least once decades ago, when we both wrote for the National Catholic Register and he was fully aware I was a pro-lifer way back then. His claim that I do “not say exactly how” he misrepresented me is as false as his book’s tales. In asking “what more” I want, he seems to suggest he already has done a lot to satisfy me, when in fact he has done absolutely nothing.

The woman replied to Hitchcock on March 21 with some of his many inaccuracies that I’ve pointed out. Rather than thanking her for giving him the opportunity to reply, Hitchcock cut her off peremptorily on March 22: “DD and I have both had our say.” (“DD” is, of course, me, Dexter Duggan.) And that was the end of what the adamantly incorrect Hitchcock would say.

University abortion historian Prof. Mary Ziegler is bringing out her own book via Cambridge University Press now, Abortion and the Law in America: Roe v. Wade to the Present. I’m on a few pages of her book, but she phoned me by prearrangement for a recorded interview then double-checked with me for accuracy -- unlike Hitchcock, who never contacted me at all before publication, and has mainly ducked me since.

In June 2019 he finally wrote me, once, in a four-sentence letter, strangely addressing me as “Mr. McDermott,” still not acknowledging making a single error, and still inexplicably accusing me of being a bad Catholic and “a loyal Goldwaterite.” Please recall, he’d told his book readers that Goldwater was “fanatically pro-abortion.” He did not answer my reply to this cruel letter.

Prof. Ziegler made none of the howling errors that Hitchcock did. I wonder why. These are historians writing for the future, a standard that Hitchcock sadly failed while gulling his publisher, EWTN and the public.

Maybe in my next installment I’ll name folks representing the publisher and EWTN, for starters, about their part in the remarkable refusal to admit any error. Heck, here are a few now. For the publisher: Tyler Bay, Dean Birkenkamp, Julie Smith, Beckie Parker, Corinne Militello. For EWTN: Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J., Jason Addington, Michael Warsaw, Doug Keck.

"Mayday, Mayday" -- Rallies around the Country on Friday, May 1st Saying OPEN THE STATES! Respond with Prayer!

Friday is May Day. And groups are holding rallies in most states calling for an end to the lockdowns. Isn't it interesting that the international distress signal is "mayday." We certainly are in distress in the United States and if the lockdown isn't lifted soon we may all learn what it was like for our parents and grandparents to go through the Great Depression.

More From Dr. Erickson and Dr. Massihi on the Ingraham Angle. OPEN THE COUNTRY!

These guys are impressive and they are on the front lines. It's way past time to reopen the country. And Dr. Birx's statement that people at fall weddings will have to wear masks is outrageous! I'm sure not wearing one to my granddaughter's wedding! If I'm sick I won't go. If I'm not I'll put on my dancing shoes and enjoy every minute with family.

Are You and I Willing to Die for the Faith? St. Stephen, Pray for Us.

For some reason, I got it into my head this morning that today is the feast of St. Stephen. I must have been suffering a senior moment. (Is that a symptom of COVID 19)? I know it's not the feast of St. Stephen, so where did that come from? (His feast is actually December 26th.)

The COVID 19 Strategy Makes No Scientific Sense! Time to Take on the Tyrants!

UPDATE: APRIL 28TH 11:00 P.M -- Laura Ingraham just announced that the video by the two doctors has been removed from You Tube because anything that questions the World Health Organization narrative "violates their terms of service." The videos below were taken down, but fortunately they are still available on the TV station's website for now. Pray that these don't disappear as well and watch now before they do. Giant corporations like Google, Facebook, and YouTube control the narrative. For a partial transcript go here

On the way home from Mass at the fairgrounds yesterday with my husband and a fellow parishioner, we were talking about the necessity for someone to stand up to our tyrannical governor. "What would happen," I asked, "if a local mayor or town council or county board of supervisors met with health officials and the local police department and opened up our local businesses with safety guideline recommendations in place?" Just tell the governor to go fly a kite at his beach house in North Carolina.

Sunday Meditation: Don't Be Detoured from Authentic Spirituality

Don't let the deceiver lead you
off on a disastrous detour!
by Fr. Tom Collins

One of the most serious problems in the spiritual lives of so many people is the fact that they fail to assess critically the foundational premises of their spiritualities.

There is an adage, “Well begun is half done”. If our premises are correct, it is much more likely that we will arrive at the right conclusion.

The SSPX Revisited

Archbishop Lefebvre -- Hero or Villain?

Before I get into the subject of the post, I want to address Church Militant's (CM) April 22nd exposé about the SSPX. Yes I watched the Vortex and read the report. It's horrifying if true, just like the horrifying information about bishops and priests all over the country (and world) that we've been steeped in for years.

Guest Post: The Mask - A Security Blanket for Adults imposed by "Omnipotent Moral Busybodies"

Ready for the Post Office?
by Lise Baur

Today I was thrown out of a post office because I did not have a mask. No, the post office was not in the Deutsche Demokratische Republik, aka East Germany, it was in Silver Spring Maryland. I stopped in to get a free small flat rate box and the check on the amount of postage required. If it were possible, I would have mailed my item but, since I was being hollered at and told to leave, I left.

Our Lady Running to Meet Her Son, The Resurrected Lord

La Madonna che scappa, or the Runaway Madonna, is a pious ritual held every Easter Sunday in Sulmona, Italy. (A large statue of) Mary, dressed in black and keening while swaying back and forth, suddenly sees the resurrected Lord. As she sees the living Christ, her black shroud is cast off, exchanged for a garment of green (the color of life), and, as white doves fly up around her, she rushes to meet her Son. This spectacular theatrical re-enactment, one of the biggest events in Italy, has been acted out for centuries in Sulmona by the Confraternita di Santa Maria di Loreto. The full experience begins on Friday night and ends with Mary rushing to greet Our Risen Lord. So, next year in Sulmona?

Another Round of Great Articles: From Fr. Jerry Pokorosky and Raymond De Souza

Protestants Saving the Catholic Church by Fr. Jerry Pokorsky

Father makes an important and sad point:
The sex abuse crisis within the Church, along with an increasingly top-heavy bureaucracy, has – arguably – caused a kind of institutional paralysis....How else can we explain the general institutional failure to guard religious liberty during the pandemic? Historians will forever argue whether respect for the common good, fear of legal action, or servile fear, motivated Church authorities to meekly comply with government edicts. Regardless, the Church’s bureaucratic behemoth – and virtually every Catholic parish and entity – have submitted.

Random Thoughts on Tuesday Morning

  • Another Tuesday on lockdown....When will it end? The animals at the farm down the road are more free today than many Americans.

The Improbability of Turning On Faith That Has Been Extinguished

There are good days and then there are bad days in all our lives.  For the most part I have endured this lockdown in my home as well as anyone due in large part to the fact I am not alone.  I share the confinement with a loving patient husband.  I receive much satisfaction from the daily texts I get from friends in Chicago and Texas and I look forward each morning to opening my email and reading the newest posts on my favorite Catholic websites.  I am supported by my children who are busy with their own lives, but never forget to check in with their parents.

I love this sculpture, a gift from our daughter. It's on the buffet in our dining room and I see it at every meal.

Read Fr. Z: On the SSPX, the Coronavirus, and "Old Scratch"

St. Jean Vianney, patron of parish priests, pray for us.
I love priests! How much I pray that they will all imitate the great patron of parish priests, St. Jean Vianney. I heartily recommend the little gem, Eucharistic Meditations of the saint which you can order here. I've cycled through the meditations once and am beginning again. The spiritual benefit of reading these is such a blessing! I intend to use it as my "sermon" for all the virtual Masses I pray in front of the tabernacle until public Masses are restored. And I've already given copies to two priest and one to a friend and ordered three more. St. Jean Vianney, pray for all our clergy that they will love the Eucharist with the same fervor that you did.
