Editor's comment: I started showing symptoms of the Wuhan virus on March 1st and went to the emergency room on March 2nd after a nurse friend suggested I needed to get lab work and a chest X-ray. All the tests were normal, but the ER called the next day to say the Covid test was positive and I should "tough it out."

Tuesday of Holy Week: The Rising Conflict

On Monday of Holy Week Jesus made His authority very clear, not only over nature by cursing the fig tree, but over the Temple. Now on Tuesday, He returns with the apostles to the temple precincts and engages in teaching and dispute with the chief priests, pharisees, and elders. They demand to know by what authority He acts? He responds by asking them a question. "If you give me an answer, I will tell you on what authority I do the things I do. Tell me, was John's baptism of divine origin or merely from men?"

The linked title is the post I wrote last year on Monday of Holy Week when the Mass had almost disappeared from the earth except for a few people who were able to attend video Masses in person. This year many are still being denied the Mass. I check out the Vox Cantoris website almost every day and those poor Canadian Catholics are still out in the cold in most places.

Topsy and Tuptim Take a Break from Fratelli Tutti to Talk about Living in the Twilight Zone

Tuptim is helping Topsy work on her Spring garden cleanup. They rake and weed and begin to set the hardy pansies in the circle garden out front. 

Topsy: [brushing her hair back from her forehead with her forearm...] Whew, it's getting warm. You know when I lived in the city, gardening was a snap. We had a quarter of an acre and I had a few little areas: my Mary garden, my lily garden, a small vegetable garden. Here [makes sweeping gesture with her arm...] gardening is a black hole. If I ever win the lottery, I'm hiring a full time gardener.

Tuptim: [Laughing....] Only one problem....You have to buy tickets.

Chinese Water Torture: Topsy and Tuptim Discuss Chapter VI of Fratelli Tutti

Topsy and Tuptim pack a lunch and snacks and meet at the playground with seven of their grandchildren who immediately disperse on the playground. The bigger kids grab the soccer ball and run out on the field. 

Topsy: I love this playground and it's so healthy to get the kids away from all the electronics and outside. They can climb all over the equipment or run up and down the field and everyone's in plain sight. [Calling to the eleven year old...] Keep an eye on your little brothers, honey. Send them to me if you have any problems. [ Her granddaughter waves and takes the boys to the swings.]

Well...I watched Kristi Noem on Tucker the other night with my husband. As she blathered on about her "legal experts" my husband's response was, "This is baloney!" I can think of another B-word description but my mom taught me to be a lady so I won't write it, and I'll try not to think it. But I agreed with Larry. It was a politician defending her betrayal with high sounding "baloney." She will have a lot to do to restore her reputation with serious conservatives...if that is even possible. Instead of being a rising star in the GOP, we may be watching the burnout of a fallen star.

With regard to treatments, I personally experienced the assistance of the Frontline Doctors when I contracted the virus. I believe their assistance and prescription for Ivermectin were an important component in my recovery. Covid is a serious illness but it is no more a death sentence than other virulent viruses.

Topsy and Tuptim Examine Fratelli Tutti Politics in Chapter V

It's a chilly, rainy day so Topsy and Tuptim decide to meet at the coffee shop to discuss Chapter V of Fratelli Tutti where it's warm and cheerful. [See Ch. I, Ch. II, Ch. III, Ch. IV] They choose a table by the window where they can watch the rain splashing on the glass making little rivulets down the panes. The sidewalk outside is almost empty with an occasional passer by huddled under an umbrella warding off the downpour.

Topsy and Tuptim Meet at the D.C. Border Wall to Discuss Chapter 4 of Tutti Frutti

Topsy and Tuptim get off the metro at Union Station and walk toward the Capitol. They each have a grocery bag filled with snacks and gift cards to share with the homeless and the National Guard. 

Tuptim: You know, Topsy, I'm not sure this was such a good idea. The Capitol has turned into a war zone.

Catholic Truth always wins any debate so even if we're not the most erudite person on earth, we know we'll win with God's Truth, however weak the instrument we are that He uses. 

Below in this post you'll see that after 500 years Protestants still blaspheme Our Blessed Mother, despise the pope, say the Catholic Church is Satanic and viciously hate Catholics because they think we're devil worshippers and idolaters (Francis' Pachamama stunt did not endear protestants to the Church). And that's not all. Remember the French Revolution? The Spanish Civil War? The Mexican anti-Cristero War? Mao, Lenin, Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler, Islam, ISIS, Freemasons. That's just the past 250 years. 

Taking all that into account, the Catholic Church decided to make itself more likeable, happier, nicer yet still retain its meaningfulness by having women dancing with flowing scarves in liturgies filled with laughing and clapping. So happy! Happy Catholics. 

Casting aside their priestly role, priests became practically clueless as to what they were priests FOR because they thought if they didn't talk about sin and death or faith and morals, they'd be more likeable and other people would not want to kill them or us. Wrong!

Did the Church think that after Vatican II, with all the people and priests being so nice and happy, that the rest of the world would accept us and not want to kill us anymore? If so, that plan did not work. They still hate the Catholic Church and still want to rid the world of Catholics so all that happy niceness of the past 60 post-Vatican II years did nothing but horribly weaken the Church.

Thought for the Day: Walk in the Light!

blindness. The truth is not in her!

What does it mean to walk in the light? Think of how light illuminates. You see shadows on a dark night and interpret them to be two men stalking you. When you move into the light you see your fears were groundless. What you "saw" was simply an optical illusion created by two lampposts. 

All of us "see through a glass darkly" because of sin. We can choose to remain in the dark or move toward the light. The more we move into the light of Christ, the more clearly we see the truth about the world around us. And the first requirement for living in the truth is to see the truth.

Topsy and Tuptim Meet at the Apple House after a Long Hiatus to Discuss Chapter 3 of Fratelli Tutti!

[Part I and Part II] 

Topsy looks flustered as she comes into the Apple House and sees Tuptim sitting at a table drinking coffee. 

Tuptim: (Putting down her cup and tapping her watch) Hey, Lady, where have you been?

Topsy: (apologetically) Traffic on 81 was terrible -- another truck problem...a jackknifed semi at the first Strasburg exit. Fortunately I wasn't too far from the exit, but it still took twenty minutes to go a quarter of a mile. Sheesh! It seems to happen at least once a week on that highway.

Tuptim: Oh gosh! That's so frustrating.

I have a number of liberal relatives who have Trump derangement syndrome as well as an appalling lack of reason and common sense. One of them made a statement on Facebook yesterday saying if he died, he'd be glad it happened under Biden and not Trump, "the most unAmerican president in my lifetime."

Wow! Really? You care about who's president when you die? I think it would be a lot smarter to care about the Supreme Judge whom you'll meet at the moment of death. As a matter of fact, I was so appalled at his statement that I immediately prayed Mother Teresa's emergency novena for him, because I think he's in serious spiritual danger.

The Passion and Cross Come Before the Glory! Let Us Embrace Our Suffering These Last Few Weeks of Lent.

We all have suffering; there's no getting around it. Scratch the surface of even the most privileged life and you find a sort of chaos. Swirling around amongst the privileged fun and games is pain -- whether it's illness, broken relationships, jealousies, etc. And when the suffering comes it's easy to whine and complain and beg for relief. 

The Story of the Black Lace Mantilla

This is a trip down memory lane that will probably not interest many of you but I'll tell the story since it shows that God provides for us even in the tiniest detail of our lives. 

Many decades ago when I was a protestant teenager I lived in Italy while going to school in Padua and Venice. The people I stayed with, Carlo and Ann, were friends of my parents from Florida. Ann was from Tampa and had met Carlo at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. They married, lived and worked in Orlando a few years, then went to Italy where Carlo had received a research grant at the University of Padua. I was a teenager and less than happy with my school so my parents arranged for me to go to university in Italy and stay with Carlo and Ann. It was a glorious time although if I had been Catholic then I might have gleaned more from the experience. However, I look back and see how God has his hand in the course of our lives, sometimes even in the tiniest details. This is the story of the Black Lace Mantilla.
