Holy Saturday Silence

Tradition tells us that on Holy Saturday Jesus went Sheol, the place of the dead, to escort those waiting in darkness for release. The gates of heaven open and the saints go marching in.

No doubt St. Joseph led the glorious procession from that temporary abode. What joy! Venerable Mary of Agreda describes the happy death of St. Joseph and Mary's intercession for her beloved spouse. No wonder God gives him to us as our intercessor for own happy death. In the Holy Saturday silence, I want to reflect on the great foster father of Jesus who will accompany us in the silence of our own moment of death if we ask him. We need never fear the final enemy. Jesus has overcome!

St. Joseph, patron of a happy death, pray for us.
