What's Happening in Ukraine? Read and Watch!

Editor's Comment: I received an email from a friend accompanied by an interesting video describing the Russian strategy and plan in the Ukraine. I also read the comments on YouTube about the video and found this one particularly insightful. Let's face it. We are being deluged with propaganda from both sides. That's what happens in war. But when one side is being portrayed as a monster and the other as an angel, you can be sure you aren't getting the entire story.
"There is nothing heroic about arming the citizenry in the first day of war after your air defenses have been destroyed. There is nothing heroic about tolerating the installation of heavy weaponry inside cities where civilians are still present. There is nothing heroic about prolonging the war knowing full well that a no-fly zone will never happen, no other nation will send their military and you must then rely on international volunteer while 60,000 your troops are apparently surrounded and you are facing the biggest military defeat in one area. The only heroic thing to do is surrender to save lives of your people and negotiate terms for peace. Zelensky refuses to do this and so Zelensky is no hero to me."

To fight a losing battle while the people's casualties rise is not courageous; it's stupid, arrogant, and irresponsible. Read my friend's email and watch the video. What do you think?

The E-mail ----
The video below is by a famous British video blogger known as "the Duran." I know his name but I can't recall it just now. [Alexander Mercouris] This blogger has 177,000 subscribers to his programs. I'm one of them. This particular video was published 8 days ago. It starts with a clip from Fox News featuring retired U.S. Colonel MacGregor who has appeared on at least 3 Fox programs and each time seemed to shock the host by saying things so contrary to the narrative from the Government and other retired generals that Fox features.

That lasts about 2 minutes and then "the Duran" explains stuff you've never heard before. For example, you've heard of the "humanitarian corridors" which have permitted perhaps 2 million civilians to leave Ukraine safely. They are not something normal in war. They are integral to the Russian strategy. Also, you've heard that the Russians are bogged down, making little progress, and meeting fierce military resistance. Perhaps that is an assumption American retired generals are making based on the U.S.'s "shock and awe" model where we bomb the hell out of everything first. That is not Russia's approach. The real battle is in the east away from Kiev where the main Ukrainian Army is encircled and can't be reinforced or resupplied. You don't hear much about that because most of the media is in Kiev where there is not much action. The Russians are not stalled around Kiev, they are encircling it and waiting for diplomacy to have a chance.

If you really want to understand, make the effort to spend 33 minutes watching this. The Duran has a presentation style that will irritate you. That is because he is nearly blind and you don't see his eyes. Also he uses his hands and wiggles too much when he talks. Further, his British accent is easy to understand but somewhat like what we used to call "fruity." But he's not gay. In the background you might notice two baby coaches because not long ago his wife had twins. Once you listen for a while you'll get used to it and I guarantee you'll learn so much that you will be grateful you spent the time.

  1. Brilliant. And his hand and body movements don't bother me. Why should they? Are we so used to seeing news robotic personalities sitting behind their desks never moving an inch except their mouth, just looking into the camera and talking - hence the term "talking heads" - that we cannot appreciate a person in his natural state talking to us as if we were sitting there in the room with him? All of us emphasize our speech with hand movements.
