"Work harder, and no shouting!"

Will it never end with this pope constantly scolding and castigating others? Surely Francis is not thinking of orthodox priests who already work far too hard, so he must be talking about homosexual priests, right? Father Pedro Corce (pictured below) is a prime example of a priest not working hard enough – or a priest not working at all.

I belong to a women's a rosary group. All of us our orthodox Catholics who are active in various apostolates: crisis pregnancy counseling, pro-life politics, defending the faith through writing, etc. We occasionally get-together to pray and enjoy each other's company. I suppose we could call it R & R for the Church Militant: rosary and refreshment.

Today we met at my house for a Mexican lunch and the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary in honor of the feast of the Visitation. I also copied an election prayer off Catholic Online and invited all the ladies to pray it daily and share it with others.

When Googling the name of Alberto Cardenas, Fr Pedro Corce’s prostitute lover, the Internet conveniently coughed up the 129 page Dossier prepared by a private investigator for Christifidelis at St Rose of Lima, Miami Shores. To say the least, the Dossier makes clear that Fr Corces is more interested in sex and pleasure, vacations and beauty products rather than Christ Jesus and the care of his parishioners’ souls guiding them to Heaven.

The immutable Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami, is in the news again with charges of “slanderous gossip, calumny, detraction” against the faithful. It was déjà vu reading the Miami Herald article since when Archbishop Wenski of Miami was Bishop Wenski of Orlando from 2004 to 2010, and we wrote the Orlando Truth newsletter, he vilified us with identical charges.

At one point Bishop Wenski said that I was on the verge of excommunication. “ME?!” I replied. “How about excommunicating your heretical Chancery nuns and the Orlando priest we caught going to an out of state nude gay resort with his priest lover from another diocese?” (That priest still remains the pastor at his same Orlando Diocesan parish which has an elementary school.) Admittedly, while reading this article I chuckled at a few sentences which brought back joyful memories from those years, especially the part about the private investigator “going through the church rectory trash”. Those were the days.

I'm on Travelzoo's mailing list so they send me info about local deals. Today I got one for 50% off The Taming of the Shrew at the Shakespeare Theater in D.C. Being a Shakespeare enthusiast, I immediately checked out the deal and, lo and behold, it's Shakespeare in drag. All the parts are being played by men. The two major female leads, Kate and Bianca, are played by...well...what can I say. Iskandar certainly didn't go for their looks.

My mom always warned her ten children saying, "Be careful of the company you keep. People will judge you by your friends." Shakespeare certainly reflected that in Henry IV parts one and two. The young Prince Hal hangs out with a bunch of drunks and cut-purses, cheats, and scoundrels! He enjoys himself until pragmatism (the death of his father and his ascension to the throne) spurs him to cut the strings to his former buddies and eventually execute one for stealing a pyx from a church, ironic since Hal's own father (and by inheritance himself) stole the throne of England. The hypocrisy of the powerful is unlimited.

Why Does Jesus Curse the Fig Tree?

Today's gospel (Mark 11) has one of those confusing events that always make me scratch my head? Jesus is walking along the road with the apostles and he's hungry. He sees a fig tree growing by the wayside and goes over to look for figs but the tree has none because, as the gospel tells us, "it was not the time for figs." Jesus curses the tree and the next day when He and apostles are returning to Jerusalem, Peter observes that the tree has withered and died.

Now, I think the immediate reaction of many Catholics hearing that today is, "That's not fair. Why should the fig tree be expected to have figs out of season?"

Eleven States Sue, Since Congressional Wimps Don't Do Anything!

I think it's time to hang a great big CLOSED sign on the U.S. Capitol. While I applaud the eleven states (and the premier state of North Carolina) suing the mad man and his lackeys over the bathroom insanity, where is Congress? Who are the lawmakers according to the Constitution? Those cowards have rolled over with every executive order. They've abandoned their budgetary responsibilities and allowed us to be inundated by a tsunami of debt. Most of them seem to care about nothing but their seats in Congress where they often leave a lot richer than they arrived.
