Editor's comment: I started showing symptoms of the Wuhan virus on March 1st and went to the emergency room on March 2nd after a nurse friend suggested I needed to get lab work and a chest X-ray. All the tests were normal, but the ER called the next day to say the Covid test was positive and I should "tough it out."

Tuesday of Holy Week: The Rising Conflict

The five wise virgins remind us to be prepared. Are you ready for Easter?

On Monday of Holy Week Jesus made His authority very clear, not only over nature by cursing the fig tree, but over the Temple. Now on Tuesday, He returns with the apostles to the temple precincts and engages in teaching and dispute with the chief priests, pharisees, and elders. They demand to know by what authority He acts? He responds by asking them a question. "If you give me an answer, I will tell you on what authority I do the things I do. Tell me, was John's baptism of divine origin or merely from men?"

Monday of Holy Week! And So Many Churches are Still Closed

The linked title is the post I wrote last year on Monday of Holy Week when the Mass had almost disappeared from the earth except for a few people who were able to attend video Masses in person. This year many are still being denied the Mass. I check out the Vox Cantoris website almost every day and those poor Canadian Catholics are still out in the cold in most places.

Topsy and Tuptim Take a Break from Fratelli Tutti to Talk about Living in the Twilight Zone

Tuptim is helping Topsy work on her Spring garden cleanup. They rake and weed and begin to set the hardy pansies in the circle garden out front. 

Topsy: [brushing her hair back from her forehead with her forearm...] Whew, it's getting warm. You know when I lived in the city, gardening was a snap. We had a quarter of an acre and I had a few little areas: my Mary garden, my lily garden, a small vegetable garden. Here [makes sweeping gesture with her arm...] gardening is a black hole. If I ever win the lottery, I'm hiring a full time gardener.

Tuptim: [Laughing....] Only one problem....You have to buy tickets.

Most of us don't spend much time thinking about the war going on around us every day, but it's real. We can't see the spiritual battlefield and the protagonists locked in deadly conflict so we don't think about it. 

Chinese Water Torture: Topsy and Tuptim Discuss Chapter VI of Fratelli Tutti

Topsy and Tuptim pack a lunch and snacks and meet at the playground with seven of their grandchildren who immediately disperse on the playground. The bigger kids grab the soccer ball and run out on the field. 

Topsy: I love this playground and it's so healthy to get the kids away from all the electronics and outside. They can climb all over the equipment or run up and down the field and everyone's in plain sight. [Calling to the eleven year old...] Keep an eye on your little brothers, honey. Send them to me if you have any problems. [ Her granddaughter waves and takes the boys to the swings.]
