| Storm clouds over the Church are nothing new. Don't panic. Pray harder! |
Several sedevacantists like to haunt my blog and try to convince me that Francis cannot be the pope. No matter how many times I refuse to jump on their bandwagon, they pursue their single-minded message. I don't post their comments any more. They have nothing new to say.
Now, to be fair, maybe they're right, but I remain unconvinced due to the history of the Church and the papacy. If the Church and the papal throne had been occupied over the millennia by saints (and nothing but), perhaps I could agree. But evil popes are not a rarity and, even good popes often had bad men as advisors, some of whom waited in the wings hoping to "win" in the next conclave.

The Third Pornocracy: the Current Crisis in the Church
According to the data presented, the first pornocracy occurred from 904-964 A.D. Author T.S. Flanders writes about that period:
Since porneia means fornication and idolatry, then a pornocracy refers to government by corruption in the worst way. It means sexual corruption, financial corruption, and most importantly spiritual corruption afflicting the Papacy and the Vatican. There has been corruption in the Church since Judas and before that in Israel. Yet new lows were reached in the tenth century papacy. The sexual and financial corruption of the Papacy by powerful families vying for power were exactly like the modern day Vatican Mafia, but we will return to this below. Murder, adultery, idolatry, greed and darkness reigned in the Papacy in the tenth century. This reached its nadir with Pope John XII (955-964). Roberto de Mattei describes this pontificate:
...clerics and laity alike, declared that ‘he had turned the Holy Palace into an actual bordello’ [brothel]; ‘he had blinded Benedict, his spiritual father, who died shortly afterwards; he had killed John, Cardinal Subdeacon, by cutting off his genitals; he had set fires; he girded himself with a sword and armed himself with helmet and shield: they testified to all of this. All of them, both clerics and laity, cried out that he would toast to the health of the devil; they said that in games of dice he would invoke the help of Jupiter and Venus and other demons; that he would not celebrate Matins and the Canonical Hours, and wouldn’t make the sign of the cross.’[4]
Yikes! What a pope! But I am not aware of any sedevacantists taking issue with Pope John XII. Was the See of Rome vacant during his pontificate (955-964)?
Flanders goes on to the second pornocracy (1471-1563) and identifies the worst pope of that period:
Alexander VI (1492-1503). He fathered nine children, seven while a cardinal with two different women, and when he was pope, in his sixties, he convinced nineteen-year-old Giulia Farnese to become his concubine.[7] He had Annius of Viterbo produce an elaborate forgery for him “as part of a Vatican campaign to legitimize and bolster papal claims to parts of Italy” allowing the pope’s armies to invade.[8] These forgeries also included the racist ideology of the “curse of Ham” which would be used for centuries to justify the expansion of the old Muhammadan trans-Saharan slave trade into the “Christian” trans-Atlantic slave trade.[9]

Did you think Francis was the first pope to commit himself to outright evil. Really? If so, it's time to wake up to reality.
We are suffering the third pornocracy now (1965?-Present). Flanders says this about it:
...the widespread doctrinal ambiguity and heresy is the element that makes this pornocracy worse than the first two.
Pervert the doctrine and you pervert souls which is exactly what Satan wants. The flock today are particularly vulnerable to "ambiguity and heresy" because of the collapse of religious instruction for several generations. That's why it's important for serious Catholics to take advantage of reliable catechisms like the Catechism of the Council of Trent and the recent Credo by Bishop Athanasius Schneider and to teach the unadulterated faith to their children.
Flanders goes on in his conclusion to point out that no matter how bad things look, the Holy Ghost protects the Church and did so even under the Old Covenant with Israel:
...the Holy Ghost speaks against the harlotry of Israel in the most stark terms, yet God is still faithful to Israel. This is why the Church can be spotless, even while evil men corrupt souls and even rule the Church. This is because the Church is actually ruled by Christ Himself, and all the hierarchy are merely his vicars...It is this mysterious union of God with His people, of Christ with His Church, which makes her pure and spotless, no matter what. It is this which Marriage sacramentally manifests—the love of the spouse for the beloved, in which nothing can ever efface this love and nothing can break this bond until death. No matter what a spouse does. In the same way the Church will never be destroyed nor polluted even in the greatest corruption, for Christ is always faithful to His spouse. And it is His love for His Church which makes her overcome. The love of Christ for His Church makes her indefectible....This is how we must look at the current Church corruption, this Third Pornocracy, and know that God will do what He has always done: bring good out of evil.

The Holy Spirit did NOT choose Jorge Bergoglio to be pope. A conclave of cardinals did that. Some were truly listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit. Others were Judases with their own evil agenda. God allowed a corrupt man to put on the papal white. Why? Maybe to give us what we deserve. Catholic polls usually show that those who identify as Catholics adopt grievous moral evils like adultery, fornication, abortion, contraception, sodomy, divorce and remarriage, etc. as eagerly as the rest of the world.
It's well past time for serious prayer and sacrifice. So let's drop the hand-wringing and the internecine warfare and fight for the faith and the salvation of souls.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.
St. Joseph, Patron of Holy Mother Church, pray for us.

ReplyDeleteThe College of Cardinals split into 3-factions and elected three popes sitting simultaneous in Rome, Pisa and Avignon. To this day there are arguments as to which pope was the Vicar of Christ. IIRC altogether there were 11-popes elected during this period. Each different faction had adherents who were later canonized.
Our current problems seem to be pretty tame.

Pornocracy? All those objecting to sedevacantism have no problem w/calling the church a pornocracy. Wow! I'd rather say the Church was sedevacant. Also they cavil at Francis, as do you, while swallowing the popes that changed the mass and all the sacraments and the morals of both men and women so that we would just feel silly objecting no matter how immorally dressed people are at the restaurants, theaters, beaches and grocery stores -- not to mention churches and schools we frequent. Actually good decent Catholic women object to muslim burkas and hajibs. John Paul II presided at a naked woman mass that was instigated by him. It wasn't the woman's idea to attend mass nude-- they were told to not wear clothes to bring up the gifts and read the holy scripture in the sanctuary--just like we were told to not wear veils or to dress modestly or to kneel for holy communion. Paul VI was openly called a sodomite in the public press. The degeneration of Catholicism was plain when the first "Catholic" president was elected in 1960 -- by vowing that he would not let the practice of the Catholic faith interfere with his public life--as many people knew he did not let the practice of the Catholic faith (God's commandments) interfere with his private life either. John 23rd by the name he chose (of an apostate pope) and his refusal to see that fear of God (third secret of Fatima) applied to him or his times showed himself to be the same as John Kennedy. Now we come to Joe Biden and Francis. They are the president and the pope, but they are both without any fig leaf on the path of destruction. Anyone who at this point labels francis (and all his advance men: j23, pvi, jp1, jp2 and b16) as anything other than anti popes, instituting a new religion with new sacraments (those luminous mysteries: Jesus finds out he's the son of God at his baptism (he hears a voice from the sky); he attends a wedding and when the alcohol runs out he converts water into the best alcohol ever (they sat down to eat and rose up to play); he preached a kingdom where hell is empty and priests sodomize babies; then he had another vision and was confirmed in his belief that he was the son of God, and he instituted the eucharist--the agape love feast where baby sodomizers and baby murderers have a drunken, drug fueled orgy like the pagan Romans and Greeks (why were the relics of the saints and the altar stones removed; what does baptism or marriage have to do with breast feeding children in church (baring one's breasts)). No death. No sin. No repentance. No hell. No heaven. No God--except us--we are all 'the light.' If someone is suffering give them drugs or sex and if that doesn't work smother them with a pillow or leave them behind (neglect them to death because winter is coming and it's too big a burden to care for them). Some human dignity. I'd be very wary of using supposed sins of others in the past to justify going along with mortal sin (that God sent his only son to redeem us from the infinite offense) today and saying it's just what the church always did. That is not and never has been the way of the saints. And only the saints march in to heaven.

That was not a Mass. That was one gal without a shirt on. It was a staged photo op. Every time a dignitary, like Prince Charles or the Pope arrived, the local bureaucrats put a gal in front of the greeters without a shirt on.
When I was in the service that was in our area of operation. A minority of the gals in the more remote areas did not always wear shirts. When they came "down from the bush" they put a shirt on.
How do you think the first undressed, barbaric pagan people were converted?
When you exaggerate like this you loose all credibility.

JPII's mass at Mt Hagen is very well documented--why do you think he went there for a mass? Unfortunately, people who were converted were TOLD to revert to their native (traditional) undress to attend JPII's bishop of rome mass:

Mr. Comersford, Vincible ignorance is culpable. When you do a disservice to the truth, you offend God. Your original comment was: "that was not a mass." And that it was one gal / photo op. I agree that it was a photo op/staged event. But who staged it? These women normally (BEFORE and AFTER this event) NEVER attended mass topless. JPII did not tell the women to cover themselves; nor did he tell the officiating bishops to direct the women to do so. He listened respectfully while a topless woman (he was so not in agreement with women altar girls, women lectors, women priests (ha ha ha)) read the epistle. He accepted offertory gifts to GOD from topless women. He gave holy communion (GOD) to topless women. To imagine the orders to the locals to stage this event did not come directly from Rome and with the approval of JPII is not credible. Correction - No one is calling "the Church" a pornocracy. It is the aristocracy in the bureaucracy that have earned that title. Many of them well deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that having a good knowledge of Church History is an excellent inoculation against despair over the current Vatican. There are several that have come out over the last several decades that I can recommend- “Triumph: The Power and the Glory” by HW Crocker. James Hitchcock’s “History of the Catholic Church”‘and Warren Carroll’s extensive series. Steve Weidenkopf has a history called “Timeless”. I haven’t read that one, but I have read his history of the Crusades, and that is excellent so I feel confident in recommending “Timeless.”
ReplyDeleteThere have undoubtedly been bad, and indeed evil, Popes in the past. I do not believe that any, while being personally bad or evil, sought to change the dogmas or doctrines of the Church as Francis has, and continues to do. As to those who explain Francis election as us getting what we deserve from God: I think this is an unintentional insult to God that he would intentionally inflict upon his Church such a heretic. Please do not hesitate to let me know where you think I have erred.

The men who elect the Pope and the Pope himself are all sons of Adam. Sinners. We live in a fallen world. It is I think remarkable that we get from time to time Saints as Popes and Bishops.

On the night before He died, Christ gave us the Eucharist and instructed: do this in memory of me. It is a scandal that the holy sacrifice of the mass, the precious body and blood of Christ, should be used for anything other than what they are. If you really care for John Paul II, you will do reparation for the abuses to the Eucharist that he caused -- not sure how many occurred on the muddy golf course in PNG.

When Bl. John Paul II celebrated Holy Mass on the National Mall in Washington, DC, when he visited the United States in October 1979, the thousands of leftover consecrated Hosts were gathered up and carted off in plastic trash bags. A priest in attendance at the time has verified this.
I have a close priest friend whose conversion to Tradition occurred in 1995 when, as a seminarian at Mt. St. Mary’s, he was forced (yes, forced) to distribute Holy Communion at John Paul II’s Mass at Camden Yard. He saw hosts in large clear plastic garbage bags “consecrated” hundreds of yards away from the altar. Afterward, he saw those same bags still full actually pitched into dumpsters along with hosts scattered in the stands. That was enough for him.

There is no such thing as converting to Tradition. We accept Baptism. We convert to Christ.
Search Scripture. There is much about obedience. But nothing about attending Latin Mass.

I think you misunderstood my point, Anonymous. God never wills evil, but he allows it because of his respect for our free will. Of course he never would "inflict upon his Church such a heretic." He did not. The cardinals in the conclave did, some deliberately (the St. Galen's Mafia) and others out of ignorance. Nevertheless, humanity tends to get what they deserve because of our sins. The Israelites could have reached the promised land in a few weeks. Because of their rebellion against God, it took 40 years. Many people today, Catholics included, embrace the same values Francis is inflicting on our beloved Church. Repentance and conversion embracing the will of God is the answer.
