Some Good News from the Headlines

Take time to smell the flowers, praise
God for the beauty of the earth,
and talk to the flamingo.
We all need to take heart from the good news that's out there. It's too easy to feel like the whack-a-mole when we read the media. Remember, the mainstream media are purveyors of the worst of the worst. "If it bleeds, it leads!" Every time a disaster occurs whether it's a terrorist attack or a natural event we get non-stop rehashing of it, sometimes for days.

Sad isn't it? Bad news sells apparently. Good news is "oft interred" and given little attention.

Well, today I'm focusing on some good news and praying in thanksgiving. I'm also asking my guardian angel to keep me focused on my blessings and all the beauty of the earth. Sure, evil assaults us and we, as warriors in the Church Militant, need to fight on the battlefield. But sometimes we all need R & R as a respite and opportunity to recharge. So check out the good news today and rejoice in hope. Nothing "just happens." All is according to the providence of God.

Abortion Pill Reversal Prevails
A Federal District Court permanently blocked the state of Colorado from forcing a pro-life pregnancy center to stop providing abortion pill reversal (APR). Thousands of babies have been saved as a result of APR, offering women a chance to save their baby. Join us as we fight to end the scourge of chemical abortion and protect mothers and children.

Governor Stitt Issues Sweeping Order Directing Agencies to Enforce Pro-Life Standards Across State Government
Thursday, July 31, 2025

Today, Governor Kevin Stitt issued an executive order strengthening Oklahoma's commitment to protecting unborn life by directing state agencies to cease all public funding for any individual or organization affiliated with abortion providers. The order follows the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which affirmed that states have the right to decide which providers can take part in their Medicaid programs, including the right to block providers connected to abortion.

“Oklahoma is a pro-life state, and our policies should reflect that at every level of our government,” said Governor Stitt. “We won’t allow tax dollars to indirectly subsidize and flow into the abortion industry under the guise of women’s health. My order makes sure every public dollar aligns with our values and supports providers who respect life at every stage.” [Read more...]

Yesterday was the feast of St. Dominic in the traditional calendar. In our time, when so much dissent and heresy inflict our Church,  remembering St. Dominic and his promotion of the rosary can give us courage. It is one of the most powerful weapons in the arsenal of the Catholic warrior. Many men in the Middle Ages wore swords as part of their daily attire. The crucifix is actually shaped like a sword if you think about it. So gird yourself with your rosary sword every day and fight for the truth under our twelve star general, Mary Immaculate.

The Albigensian Heresy Crushed by the Rosary
In the 12th and 13th centuries, France became overrun by the dangerous Cathar heresy, also known as Albigensianism. This Gnostic sect taught that the material world was evil, the human body a prison for the soul, and that suicide and starvation were noble ways to escape the flesh. They rejected Catholic doctrine, especially the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, denied the authority of the Pope, and even claimed that Jesus was not truly man. Though Pope Innocent III launched the Albigensian Crusade in 1209 to combat this rising threat, it was not military might that ultimately quelled the heresy—it was the power of the Rosary. The Rosary not only defeated error, it built up the Dominican Order—formally known as the Order of Preachers—and initiated a devotion that would span centuries.

  1. The good news is that many scales are falling off, especially, from Catholic eyes. Amen.

Pope Leo XIII tells us, ”When the mind has... become poisoned, the moral character becomes at the same time deeply and substantially corrupt." He further tells us that "it is the light of Christian faith which is the principal and foundation of all righteousness." It follows, then, that if the Christian faith, which the Pope calls the "foundation of all righteousness," is diminished, the effect will be a lessening of moral values; and it is logical to conclude that until the faith is restored, the morality it upholds will not return.

With all of the Rosaries, Masses, and sacrifices offered to God, why is the number of abortions not decreasing? Is the fight being waged on the wrong front? Is the symptom being attacked while the disease goes undetected? In the fight to end abortion, we must seek to find the root cause that has produced it; and after finding the cause, we must "take the ax to the root."

Let us re-think our means of fighting abortion so that we do not offend God while trying to serve Him. If our goal is merely to fight abortion, we can continue on our current path; but if we seek to eliminate it, let us do our part to restore the faith, because when the faith has been restored, abortion will end. Therefore, I end with this appeal to the pro-life Catholics of the world who are seeking to end abortion: Take the ax to the root!

    1. Thank you for a thoughtful and thought-provoking comment. The proximate root of abortion is and always has been contraception in my opinion. The dissent to Humanae Vitae and the silence from the pulpit let the seed of abortion grow and flower.

On the other hand, I have friends who would say the root of the evil is the theory of evolution which makes us animals controlled by our instincts. If we're all descended from monkeys why not act like monkeys?

Your opening sentence is spot on. Gen Z seem to be among those whose eyes are being opened. Many of them are sick of the meaningless life offered by the world and are turning to faith. Hopefully, they will end up in the Church with a true appreciation for her dogma and traditions.

Abortion will probably never end until Jesus returns. Man's inclination to evil and his selfishness seem unbounded. In the meantime, like the apostles who evangelized an incredibly evil society we should try to do the same. By the grace of God all things are possible.

    I agree.

I read somewhere: 'God loves order because order is born of intelligence. Where order is lacking there can only be confusion and destruction.'

This is what humanity groans from.....
