Some Good News from the Headlines

Take time to smell the flowers, praise
God for the beauty of the earth,
and talk to the flamingo.

We all need to take heart from the good news that's out there. It's too easy to feel like the whack-a-mole when we read the media. Remember, the mainstream media are purveyors of the worst of the worst. "If it bleeds, it leads!" Every time a disaster occurs whether it's a terrorist attack or a natural event we get non-stop rehashing of it, sometimes for days.

Sad isn't it? Bad news sells apparently. Good news is "oft interred" and given little attention.

Well, today I'm focusing on some good news and praying in thanksgiving. I'm also asking my guardian angel to keep me focused on my blessings and all the beauty of the earth. Sure, evil assaults us and we, as warriors in the Church Militant, need to fight on the battlefield. But sometimes we all need R & R as a respite and opportunity to recharge. So check out the good news today and rejoice in hope. Nothing "just happens." All is according to the providence of God.

The other day I gave a talk to the core team of the Defend Life Face the Truth Tour. During the blazing hot days this week, these warriors of the Church Militant will be standing at busy intersections holding signs showing the graphic reality of abortion. They will receive thumbs up, honks for life as well as obscene gestures and screams. The really rabid pro-abortion zealots may even attack them. And in the past, these truth tellers have even been arrested. (They won the lawsuit against the police department.)

One of the things I mentioned briefly during my talk was the reality that there are traitors in roman collars. In the early days of the pro-life movement there was a real chance of passing a human life amendment to protect all lives from the moment of conception until natural death. That amendment wasn't deep-sixed by the feminists but principally by one priest -- Monsignor (later Bishop) James McHugh. As head of the USCCB's pro-life office, he had many contacts with laity fighting for life. It is an understatement to say he was not helpful, but actually threw roadblocks in the path to saving the unborn.

On the Feast Day of Pope St. Pius X: Challenging Times are Nothing New!

In the old calendar, today is the feast of Pope St. Pius X (pope from 1903-1914). In honor of his feast day, I am reading selections from My Words Will Not Pass Away: doctrinal writings of St. Pius X. I am personally grateful to this pope for encouraging the frequent, even daily, reception of Holy Communion and reducing the age for reception to the age of reason around seven years old. [This is what the Church means when it talks about "development of doctrine". It doesn't mean playing fast and loose with the perennial teachings of Holy Mother Church.] We have a lot to learn from this great saint!

Of Groundhogs and False Shepherds

Every year I plant a small garden. (Underline the small." This year, as usual, I planted six 
tomato plants a handful of summer and spaghetti squash, three assorted pepper plants and a few herbs in containers. Things were going fairly well and I harvested a few squash and am just beginning to get some fresh tomatoes.

But the groundhog found the garden and he has devastated my squash plants gradually eating the leaves until my formerly lush plants are almost unrecognizable. He does all his munching and crunching in the dark when we are asleep.

Judas did his dirty work in the dark as well. So do the false shepherds hiding in their dicasteries at the Vatican plotting the next document or synod to attack the faith. 

This is nothing new!

A Message from Church Militant, But Don't Look for it On Their Website!

UPDATE: The statement is now linked on the home page. Christine Niles has also released a video about her own resignation. Michael Voris' has released a video on X. In the midst of all this, Simon Rafe has sent out a message asking for...guess what...more money. As long as Simon, author of the Darknight game, is involved with CM, I'm outta there. Keep everyone in prayer, but spend your money wisely on apostolates that are really saving souls.

Sometimes I can't help uttering a guffaw when I get an email telling me about CM's latest comedy show and go to check it out. These days I rarely waste two seconds at CM in six months, but today I watched Simon Rafe's lecture to viewers (on the donation page, of course). His message? Pony up, you Catholic deadbeats!

It was Only a Matter of Time: Bishop Schneider Gets the Hobnailed Boot from Church Militant!

Are we surprised when Church Militant (CM) attacks someone who (horrors!) defends the
SSPX? Goodness, there's a bushel full, and now one more, a good and holy bishop, Athanasius Schneider. 

Voris and company recently featured a Catholic World Report article by disgruntled former SSPXer Andrew Bartel. Bartel is not a canon lawyer and has pretty slim credentials to challenge a bishop with a doctorate in theology and patristics. 

According to his profile on Catholic World News:

Andrew Bartel is a lay Dominican of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. He lives with his wife and their three children in Montana, where he works as a glazier. He is also pursuing a degree in English and Philosophy.

A friend of mine, a long-time sidewalk counseling partner from the past, sent me an email linking to Mike Voris' latest attack on the SSPX. Good grief! Give it a rest, Michael!

Ho-hum and yawn. Mikey has definitely become Rooster Looster one note, one long, screeching, discordant note. Like a cockscomb-clad court jester, he calls us all to dance to his crowing. He screeches that the SSPX is damaging the faith and driving people out of the Church. 

What nonsense!

Earlier this month I received an email from a regular blog reader about the Church Militant (CM) "porn site." Here's what my contact wrote:

Good day Mary Ann,

 I hope this note finds you well. You’ve probably seen it already but if not, Frank Walker at Canon 212 has a red headline about the latest Christine Niles attack on the SSPX. I quickly glanced at it because I don’t want to be a metric in their favor. Long story short, the allegations in this article are WAY too graphic. I stand by my earlier opinion that CM is a porn site. At some point, I hope the SSPX will sue them.

Have you ever noticed that most of Church Militant's non-scandalous content is behind a pay wall for "premium subscribers." Their bread and butter and click bait is salacious scandal. Do great evils need to be exposed? Yes. But take a look at The Remnant, Catholic Family News, LifeSiteNews, and other mature Catholic media  and compare the difference in the way things are covered. God bless Andrew for posting this insightful comment.

"Church Militant," and I put their name in quotes because their name is so inappropriate, is basically a porn website when you analyze their content, their go-to-market strategy and the way they stay in business. How?

Some Things are Worth Repeating: The SSPX Revisited

Editor's Note: I wrote this post in the midst of the lockdowns in 2020. In view of Church Militant engaging in their latest attack on the SSPX, I thought it was worth repeating. John Salvi, CM's "expert," is an apologist with absolutely no authority in the Church. Michael Voris, although he postures as an authority on just about everything, is a big-mouthed layman with a microphone and a green screen. He has absolutely no authority either. It's interesting that part of John Salvi's "expertise," discussed in this video, is his history as a 32nd degree Mason. He uses his wicked past as a credential. Voris rarely talks about his wicked past as an active homosexual and only revealed it when it was about to become public. Neither of these men, Voris or Salvi, are authorities and their statement that the SSPX is in schism is an opinion, nothing more. Voris has made attacking other Catholics a staple of his yellow journalism. Listening to him is like reading the tabloids at the grocery store checkout. Sensationalism unmasked! (If you watch the episode, note Michael's snide comments throughout.) Their assault weapon in this case is a "former" 32nd degree mason, John Salza, slandering Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX. Augustine Inferrera, Church Militant's whistleblower, did experience two episodes where a monk supervising the building project, Brother Joseph, lost his temper with the young man and physically assaulted him. The brother was charged with simple assault and had to go to court where he pled guilty and expressed his regret. There were no injuries although Augustine reiterates over and over how "violent" Bother Joseph is (a regular Jack the Ripper) and essentially demanded his expulsion. Augustine claims there was no provocation, but we only hear his side of the story. Apparently there were witnesses. What did they say about the events? Did anyone have to physically pull the mad monk off Augustine?
