Today is the feast of
St. Juan Diego. His simple faith and humility are a great model for the Advent season. Jesus showed the humility of God made man. The God who loves us enough to make Himself a tiny baby in the womb of a young girl, born in a cold stable, raised in the humble home of a carpenter, and killed on a cross of suffering. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but love for the Lord reflected in love for neighbor is the natural response to those who come to know Him. The apostles followed Jesus out of love not fear because He "has the words of eternal life." Draw near to Mary through the humble Aztec indian Juan Diego and she will lead you straight to her Son. And what an appropriate place to be this Advent season as we await the coming of our Savior. St. Juan Diego, pray for us.
