St. Francis Borgia and his Warning on Human Respect!

I love reading about the saints. Most days I spend part of my morning prayer time reading from Butler's Lives of the Saints. How many friends we have in heaven! And I always read the names of all the saints of day and ask for their intercession. Don't we all need as many prayer warriors as we can get?

My Butler's is about fifty years old so I don't have any of the updates, but with four thick volumes I have plenty of friends to consult even if more modern saints like Mother Teresa and Padre Pio are missing. Since I read my Benedictus prayer book every day, I catch them on their feast days.

Sunday Meditation: Honor or Dishonor? Palm Sunday and Good Friday!

What a week this is from Palm Sunday to Holy Thursday to Good Friday to Easter Sunday. We experience a range of emotions from the incredible honoring of Jesus as Christ the King by the crowds on Palm Sunday, to the Last Supper and the institution of the priesthood on Holy Thursday, to the betrayal by Judas and the evil trial by the Sanhedrin that broke every rule in the book during the passion. It's exhausting even to think about the journey including the Stations of the Cross, the last short, but agonizing, stretch to Golgotha.

Coronavirus: It's Not All Bad News! Praise God for the Good He Will Bring from It!

We are called to be saints. (Fra Angelico)
One of my favorite Scripture passages is this:
All things work together for good for those who love the Lord and serve according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
The Douay-Rheims translates Paul's passage this way:
And we know that to them that love God, all things work together unto good, to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints.
