CPAC: The Great Betrayal

Pro-lifers are used to being in the back of the bus. But now it's not just reserved for those who oppose murdering babies. Move over to make room for those who oppose "gay" marriage.

CPAC has lost its way and this year it lost a lot of its support as well. See the full page ad that ran today in the Washington Times. So called conservatives have spent years saying the social issues just aren't that important. Killing babies and destroying the traditional family matter less than gas prices. Some of us don't agree and we won't be dupes of faux conservatism any more.

More on the Dangers of a Constitutional Convention

I've copied below an excerpt from an article by Tom DeWeese on the dangers of a modern Constitutional Convention. A gentleman took issue with my earlier blog post including an ad hominem attack that accused me of dishonesty (and stupidity). What he didn't mention is that the first Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia did exactly what the nay-sayers like me warn. The delegates threw out the Articles of Confederation and ignored the restrictions placed on their body by the individual states they represented. They went back to the drawing board and came up with a brand new Constitution that governs us today. In view of the historical reality, what possible evidence is there that the delegates to a new convention could not imitate their forebears?

We also are not the country we were in 1787 when the Constitution was written and 1789 when it was finally ratified. Can anyone doubt that in our abortion/gay marriage culture the rights of free speech for Christians, the right to bear arms, the right to free assembly, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, etc. will be protected? And with so many liberal blue states can we be sure the state legislatures won't ratify whatever comes forth?

Do You Inadvertently Support Planned Parenthood and Other Pro-Abort Groups?

I got a call this week from the American Diabetes Association asking me to send out letters and collect in my neighborhood. Thanks to Life Decisions International I had the information I needed to say no. You see, I recently ordered their boycott list  which targets corporations, businesses, nonprofits, etc. that support Planned Parenthood. It's updated frequently so you can see the success of your efforts. In fact, the latest issue of the The Boycott List says, "For the first time ever, no corporations have been added." Wow! Companies are beginning to recognize that support for abortion is bad for business.

By choosing even a few companies off The Boycott List and letting them know you won't support them until they stop supporting Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups you can make a difference! Here's a sampling from Life Decisions' website. I've highlighted a few. Some may surprise you, some you may probably already know about. Now that you know, if the American Cancer Society or Easter Seals calls you for fundraising help, tell them you won't support Planned Parenthood. We're dropping our AAA membership for another auto club that doesn't help kill babies:

The Boycott List includes a section called Dishonorable Mention, which lists seemingly innocuous nonprofit organizations that are involved with Planned Parenthood or otherwise active in the Culture of Death. Among the groups included are Outward Bound West, American Automobile Association (AAA), Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Phil Foundation, Lions Clubs, American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Boys & Girls Clubs, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Camp Fire, Girls Inc., Girl Scouts, Kiwanis Clubs, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Rotary Clubs, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The Salvation Army, YWCA, America Gives Back (formerly [American] Idol Gives Back), YMCA, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), American Diabetes Association. Involvement ranges from donating funds to pro-abortion groups (or allowing affiliates to do so), supporting anti-life causes, allowing pro-abortion groups access to membership, adopting an official pro-abortion policy position, and so forth.

The Call for a New Constitutional Convention -- Don't Say no, say HELL NO!

I'm getting increasing numbers of e-mails from folks I consider sensible promoting the call for a Constitutional Convention. Obviously these well-meaning individuals don't understand what it means. There is nothing in the Constitution that controls what a new Convention could do to our Founding Document. There are absolutely NO RESTRICTIONS on what the delegates can propose and the amendments they can approve.

Does anyone really think that our current flock of politicians on both sides of the aisle, not to mention our pernicious president with his billionaire buddies like George Soros, can do a better job at rewriting our founding documents than men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, George Mason, and the other giants of history? Consider a new Constitution that incorporates the long-dead Equal Rights Amendment or a gay rights amendment or a gun (and smoking) ban. No, a Constitutional Convention is a REALLY BAD IDEA. There is no controlling what it can do!

Pass this on and don't jump on the bandwagon when you don't know the tune they're playing. You may find yourself in the middle of a hard rock drug fest with the descendants of Woodstock.

Funny Stuff on the Internet - But is it True?

I receive a lot of e-mails with funny (or scary) messages that sound plausible, but set my "phony bone" tingling. I got one this morning about stupid things Congressman and their staffers said to a D.C. ticket agent. It's a hilarious e-mail, but some of the items were just too outrageous to believe - like this one:

I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window.  (On an airplane!) 

Apparently this e-mail has been making the rounds for years and began with no specific names, but morphed into attribution to certain Congressmen and staffers (mostly liberals). I'm betting one item was payback for liberals' attacks on Sarah Palin:

I got a call from a lawmaker's wife who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada ?''
I said, ''No.''
She said, ''But they look so close on the map.'' 

I would never forward this type of thing except for the joke value. Laughing is good for your health. But I would check it out first, remove all the names, and pass it on as what it is -- a funny fictional story. It makes me think of James Thurber's type of humor. I'm sure Walter Mitty met all kinds of crazy folks on his imaginary adventures including the guy below:

A New York lawmaker called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?'' I said, 'No, why do you ask?'

He replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!''

After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno, Ca. is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage..

Well, you get the idea. One lady on my e-mail list frequently sends things that make me tingle. Invariably when I check them out, they're false. It damages her credibility, but she seems oblivious to the fact even though I've mentioned it. On the other hand, I care enough about the truth (and my own reputation) that I only want to forward items that I can vouch for. If I can't source it, I don't send it. At least not as a serious item.

Oh, and if it's on YouTube in a foreign language with subtitles, you better find someone who speaks the language before accepting it at face value. Ditto for  photo-shopped pictures like Michelle Obama in the pinata dress. When I saw it, I immediately suspected it was phony. And it was.

I may be gullible when it comes to my husband's pranks (He enjoys taking me in, and I always say, "Really?" before I think it through), but gullible is not an adjective I'm looking for when I'm writing about serious topics.

First Saturday: A Good Day for Confession and Atonement Prayer

My New Year resolutions are growing gradually. I started with the intention of reading one entry from the Imitation of Christ every night before bed. It is a spiritual book that never goes stale and I'm amazed how often the reading relates to something specific going on in my life. In addition, a few days ago, reflecting on First Friday, I made a specific intention of making the nine  First Fridays this year with a conscious effort. Reflecting on the Sacred Heart of Jesus pierced for love us can't help but inspire our love and gratitude in return.

And now it is First Saturday and I'm reflecting on adding the Five First Saturdays as well, a devotion requested by Mary when she appeared to Sr. Lucia of Fatima in 1926. The Five First Saturdays take more effort than First Friday. It isn't enough to go to Mass and Confession (within eight days). One is also required to pray the rosary and spend an additional 15 minutes meditating on one of the mysteries of the rosary, a different one each of the five Saturdays. All is done to atone for the five types of sins against the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Mother which include:

blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary, blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images, and the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother. What did the Blessed Mother promise to Sr. Lucia for those who would make the First Saturday devotion? Listen to her own words:

"Behold, my daughter, my Heart encircled with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce It at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Give me consolation, you, at least; and make known on my behalf that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all who on the First Saturday of five consecutive months confess their sins, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the purpose of making reparation to my Immaculate Heart."

As I get older, I reflect more often on the last things: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. And how encouraging it is to think of Mary coming with her legion of angels to accompany me on my final journey. It's a small effort of love to make for such a great return. When I think of the efforts we go to for celebrating birthdays, holidays, etc. it is a small effort indeed to show love and devotion to Our Lady.

One of the reasons that adult stem research is not getting the support that embryonic stem cell research is can be summarized in one word - MONEY! Embryonic stem cell lines can be patented and make big bucks for companies. You can't patent a person's own stem cells. But look at the miracle of healing that is possible because of research into the use of adult stem cells. Praise God!

Forced Abortion: The Dirty Little Secret the Feminists Ignore

Pro-lifers have warned for years that abortion would lead to disrespect for ALL human life. The violence against women who REFUSE abortions is real and often fatal. Here's just one more story of a woman murdered because she would not kill her lover's baby. So he took care of the "problem" himself "aborting" his child and the mother who wouldn't do his will. Murder is the greatest cause of death of pregnant women, one of the many evil outcomes of legal abortion.

According to LifeSiteNews:

Surveys of women who have had abortions indicate as many as 60 percent have said they faced pressure from a partner, family, or employer.

Cases involving the death of or injury to women who refuse to have abortions are frequent and Congress and more than two dozen states have passed laws offering protecting and justice for women and their unborn children victimized by such crimes. The laws make it so criminals are held accountable for two crimes instead of one because there are two victims — mother and unborn child — instead of just one.

Heartbeat Bill in Ohio

Sometimes a state initiative is so important that every pro-lifer in the country ought to get behind it.

The personhood bills are the most important because they declare the little one in the womb persons with rights from the first moment of existence. Every state needs to introduce and work toward passage of these bills.

In the second tier of importance are bills like the heartbeat initiative in Ohio which protects the life of all babies whose hearts are beating. Will it save all babies? No! And it isn't enough. But it sends a clear message that a person with a beating heart has the right to life. And when you consider that the baby's heart begins beating at 21 days gestation, this is a giant step forward to defend many little ones in the womb. It would also put late-term Ohio butcher, Martin Haskell, out of business. Haskell is credited with popularizing the gruesome partial birth abortion method. Cutting off his diabolical business would be a blessing to everyone on the planet.

Sending heart balloons to the state legislature is a powerful visual message as well. I'm sending some and I invite you to join in the effort to fill up the Ohio capitol with these signs of life. Just imagine the halls of the state legislature as deliveries go to many offices throughout the capitol building.

Today, first Friday, when we reflect on the Sacred Heart of Jesus and pray in atonement for all the sins against His love is the perfect day to take action to defend His little ones. Attach prayers of reparation for the murder of His precious babies. Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine. Go here for more information and to send your own balloons.
