Feasts of the past few days remind us that God hasn't called us to pig out at the church picnic, but rather to follow His Son onto the field of battle. How many of us ever even skip a snack in reparation for sins that cry to heaven for vengeance, much less do any real fasting. (I point the wagging finger at myself!)

Something Beautiful for Mary!
It's First Saturday. Shall we do something beautiful for God by honoring His Mother? Please join me in making the Five First Saturdays of Reparation. Pray the rosary and meditate for fifteen minutes on its mysteries. Go to Confession and Communion (within a week or so) for the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. May this beautiful rendition of the Salve Regina (Hail Queen) be an inspiration and aid.

#Lucia-of-Fatima: The Whole World will be Communist!
With the 100th anniversary of Fatima less than two years away, I'm reading every book I can get my hands on about Our Lady's messages to the three little shepherds from the "beautiful lady." This morning, reading Sister Lucia: Apostle of Mary's Immaculate Heart, written by Mark Fellows and published during the 90th anniversary year (2007), I came across an interesting item. In 1946, Lucia, the only surviving seer of Fatima, was interviewed by American historian Professor William Thomas Walsh. During the questioning, she told him several times:What Our Lady wants is that the Pope and all the bishops in the world shall consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart on one special day. If this is done, She will convert Russia, and there will be peace. If it is not done, the errors of Russia will spread through every country in the world.Professor Walsh asked her if she believed that all the countries throughout the world, without exception, would succumb to Communism.

First Friday and First Saturday Are Coming Up....
So today is a good day to go to Confession in preparation. We have visiting grandchildren and will all go for a spiritual bath."Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee...."
Do you know the promises that come with the First Friday devotion? Check them out here.
Check out the First Saturday devotion here
God is so generous in offering us many opportunities to grow closer to Himself. Think how much He loves you and rejoice by spending time with Him and with Our Blessed Mother.

First Saturday: A Good Day for Confession and Atonement Prayer
My New Year resolutions are growing gradually. I started with the intention of reading one entry from the Imitation of Christ every night before bed. It is a spiritual book that never goes stale and I'm amazed how often the reading relates to something specific going on in my life. In addition, a few days ago, reflecting on First Friday, I made a specific intention of making the nine First Fridays this year with a conscious effort. Reflecting on the Sacred Heart of Jesus pierced for love us can't help but inspire our love and gratitude in return.
And now it is First Saturday and I'm reflecting on adding the Five First Saturdays as well, a devotion requested by Mary when she appeared to Sr. Lucia of Fatima in 1926. The Five First Saturdays take more effort than First Friday. It isn't enough to go to Mass and Confession (within eight days). One is also required to pray the rosary and spend an additional 15 minutes meditating on one of the mysteries of the rosary, a different one each of the five Saturdays. All is done to atone for the five types of sins against the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Mother which include:

All is done to atone for the five types of sins against the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Mother which include:
blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary, blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images, and the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother. (See more here...)What did the Blessed Mother promise to Sr. Lucia for those who would make the First Saturday devotion? Listen to her own words:
"Behold, my daughter, my Heart encircled with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce It at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Give me consolation, you, at least; and make known on my behalf that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all who on the First Saturday of five consecutive months confess their sins, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the purpose of making reparation to my Immaculate Heart."As I get older, I reflect more often on the last things: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. And how encouraging it is to think of Mary coming with her legion of angels to accompany me on my final journey. It's a small effort of love to make for such a great return. When I think of the efforts we go to for celebrating birthdays, holidays, etc. it is a small effort indeed to show love and devotion to Our Lady.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.

Is This Coming to a Church Near You?
Young person tells experience of defending Cathedral from feminist horde
Catholic News Agency reported in October on a massive demonstration outside the cathedral in Neuquen (western Argentina) by feminists demanding the right to kill their children. The ferocity of the women (notice the lesbian sign on one protestor) is similar to the one against the 69 year old woman by proposition 8 opponents. Are you ready to defend Holy Mother Church as these courageous young people did? Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially fear of the Lord and fortitude. And make the five first Saturdays in reparation for blasphemies against the Blessed Mother.
