In view of the folks Obama has surrounded himself with and his own excesses, it doesn't seem surprising to me that the executive branch is showing some serious integrity problems. It's bad enough to have the GSA shaming us in the U.S. with a million dollar Vegas blowout, but now the Secret Service is shaming us in a foreign country.
If Obama is resposible for that, George Buh tortured thos people in Abu Ghraib. NBut then torturing muslims is just wonderful republican catholic pastime...
ReplyDeleteOK... the Secret Service is an independent agency that really has nothing to do with the individual administrations. The agents don't change with every president; most serve several. While I agree this is a scandal, blaming Obama for it is like blaming a principal for a bad teacher.
ReplyDeleteI think it was Harry Truman who had the sign on his desk, "The buck stops here." The Secret Service is an office of the executive branch of government. The president is the head of the executive branch. I think he must bear responsibility for everything that goes on in the executive branch during his administration. Bush certainly got plenty of criticism for the torture situation. As for the principal example, I would certainly expect him/her to do everything possible to help a bad teacher to improve.
ReplyDeleteThere's also the question of the level of integrity set by the top. If the leader establishes an example of lying, extravagant living, etc. why is it surprising to find underlings doing the same?
Someone wanted to know, although immoral of course, is it illegal to participate in activities that are legal elsewhere (prostitution in Vegas, or other countries, etc.)?
