The hysteria from liberals expressing terror and despair because of Trump's win are baffling. He was already president for four years, folks, and the world did not end! What's with all the Chicken Littles running around screaming, "The sky is falling; the sky is falling!" I get it with the drive-by media and the liberal elite. They thrive on fear. Look what they did to us during COVID. But, really, parents saying their children are terrified? College students needing coloring books and teddy bears to alleviate their panic? Average Janes and Joes in tears and going into total, unhinged meltdown mode?
It's lunacy! Grow up!
One of my own sisters claims that Elon Musk and Trump will end Medicaid and worries about our sister in the nursing home who's on Medicaid. She need not worry. It ain't gonna happen. But I sure hope Trump ends the Medicaid give-away to all the illegal aliens invading our country including taxpayer funded sex-change operations, debit cards, phones, and cash. Really? How about our own citizens who live below the poverty level, a growing population because of Biden/Harris policies of the last four years.
At any rate, I think the appropriate response to all this is a huge guffaw! Life is too serious to take it so seriously as a priest friend once told me.
Think of Dante. He wrote a trilogy on hell, purgatory, and heaven. He called it The Divine Comedy not The Divine Tragedy. I read The Inferno in full and The Purgatorio and The Paradiso in part when I was in college.
Reflecting on hell isn't very funny, but nobody needs to go there. It's a free choice; and I suppose one can experience a rueful laugh at the foolishness that leads some people to throw away an eternity of heavenly bliss for the fake heaven Satan offers his followers if they just indulge in the seven deadly sins.
This is what I posted on my Facebook wall yesterday:
I have come to the conclusion that many of the tragedies we experience in life are really comedies and the best approach is to laugh. As the saying goes, "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Then turn on a funny movie like "The Gods must be Crazy" and realize that God is often probably laughing over the situation as well. I can just hear Him saying, "When will those silly people ever learn?"
I'm asking St. Philip Neri, the patron saint of laughter and joy, to be my special friend. He loved joking. Oh....and I recommend baking bread. Kneading dough is a good prescription for any challenging situation. The yeast smells so good and reminds one of the gospel. And remember this from St. Philip: “Cheerfulness strengthens the heart and helps us to persevere. A servant of God ought always to be in good spirits. Charity and cheerfulness, or charity and humility, should be our motto.” And another: “The true way to advance in holy virtues is to persevere in a holy cheerfulness.” I thank my mom for the gift of cheerfulness. What an easy smile she had for everyone she met. Pray for me, Mom, that I might imitate you and St. Philip Neri.
I will laugh today over the antics of my chickens who are a never-ending source of comedy. I will laugh at some of the goofiness going on with all the silly talking heads and the libs on TikTok. And if I'm tempted to gloom, I will search the archive of my memory to remember some of the joys of my life which always include children.
Laughter really is the best medicine!
My understanding is social security is 80% funded and in no danger and could easily be 100% funded (if Congress voted to change certain limits) but Medicare/Medicare is in trouble because it's 80% unfunded. A large part of the deficit can be found there. (How is this sustainable? )The fix is to get rid of the outrageous costs of all medical care and make it transparent and reasonable. The medical industrial complex is a big monopoly. Make people responsible for their own health instead of relying on doctors to fix them. Allow people to see what care costs and make choices. Allow doctors to actually practice medicine (for example prescribe Ivermectin if they want) instead of following unneccessary protocols so they don't get sued. I'm also thinking of lifestyle choices not accidents, genetic diseases, etc that get people into trouble (gluttony anyone?) and use up a large portion of medical dollars. People have the power to make positive choices.
